Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.
Bencotto offers two different eating environments: guests can either enjoy their meal at our “kitchen-esque” bar downstairs, or they can relax in the intimate low-ceiling dining area upstairs. Bencotto Italian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was in Little Italy and was a very popular place. It was pretty full even at the early hour (5:30) that we dined. The staff, especially our waitress and the hostess, were very friendly and provided excellent service. We enjoyed the food and the service as well as the location.
Great place to get authentic Italian food! The chef makes all of his own pasta and the servers come around and show you the pasta options. The service is friendly and fast. The ambiance is more modern style, which I think reflects the style of Milan where the chef is from.
We had a large group of 11 people. The waiter was not particularly attentive and the staff that brought our meals was hopelessly confused as to who had ordered what. We were placed near one of the service kitchens and the odor of bleach was noticeable and not appetizing. While several people said they liked their meals, my lasagna noodles tasted like they had been in the oven a long time.
This was a fun menu for us because we enjoy trying and sharing a variety of things. Their small plate selections were interesting and out of the ordinary. Salads and charcuterie were delicious. Although the meatballs seemed a bit under seasoned they were unbelievably tender. Service was friendly and attentive from hostess, bar tender, waiter to bus boy. I'll remember this spot on our next visit to San Diego.
Absolutely wonderful! I will be coming here again! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate a new job. We made a reservation, which was a good idea because they filled up right after 6. The complimentary bread with oil and balsamic vinegar was warm and delicious. I got pumpkin ravioli with sage butter sauce. It was amazing! My boyfriend got lamb shank that was so tender it fell off the bone. He loved it. To end, we got the tiramisu which must have been sent from heaven. Go here. Worth the price.
Absolutely love Bencotto. The Best food, the best service and the best atmosphere . Just great all around place to go and enjoy someone's company. I have eaten there a few times and every time I go I try something different and each time I am extremely satisfied.
I very highly recommend trying this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
We went there for our first year anniversary and couldn't be happier with our choice. They prepared a place card on the table congratulating us and we were greeted and congratulated by each employee. Service was on point. The food was esquisite. Can't go wrong with freshly made pasta. We had a great time.
We had the chance to try Bencotto while we were in town recently during Restaurant Week, and it lived up to its reputation. All of the food we had was quite good. My wife's Tortino al Tartufo was especially rich, decadent and delicious. And my Reginelle di Agnello was rustic, properly sauced, silky pasta with a delightful lamb-y taste. Portions were generous. Service was friendly and efficient. The dining room is sleek and modern looking, with a "high energy" (aka loud) atmosphere. Call me old fashioned, but I guess I don't understand why a high noise level is supposed to improve a dining experience.
Despite having reservations and checking in early, we were seated nearly 15 minutes after our scheduled reservation because hostess thought my entire party hadn't arrived. Restaurant was severely understaffed to deal with clientele that day and there's no decent place to wait before being seated. Service was friendly and food was nice but not going to be a go-to place for me.
I have been to Bencotto six times. It's my go to place for out of town visiters and I have never been disappointed. The pasta is excellent. Sauces are outstanding you can tell they started in the morning to simmer the tomato based sauces. Try the specials, something different, you will not be disappointed. To me it's a crown jewell for Little Italy.
If I had one negative, and it's a nit, the background noise. The walls are concret with glass windows street side, so very, very "bright".
I will be back!!
The Worst experience at this restaurant. I have dined at Bencotto at least 2 dozen times. They must be getting arrogant because they cared so little about our service. A table of 21+ year old DRUNK girls were seated next to us celebrating. I'm all for happy times. But a group of loud, hooting, hollering drunk girls is not the ambiance of this place. Bencotto is a very loud restaurant and that I know, but add in a bunch of drunk girls it is unbearable. It became more unbearable because we ask management to request they take it down a level and management said no. The manager was clearly tired and didn't care but he was earning his paycheck that night so he should have done his job. We took 2 business clients out to what we framed up as "our favorite Italian " restaurant. We were hugely embarrassed that management did so little.
As a side, I have eaten their specialty of spicy shrimp with black linguine at least a dozen times and it is always excellent. That night it was thick, gooey, bland and just tired. Maybe Bencotto should wake up to their former excellence as it will be awhile before I return. There is so much competition, getting cocky is not wise.
