About Benchmark Restaurant
Located in the heart of Brooklyn's Park Slope, Benchmark features a New American menu focused on pasture-raised animals and locally-grown produce. Chef Ryan Jaronik has created a diverse menu that melds the traditional and the contemporary with global influences. Featured is a section of à la carte steaks and chops offering up to five different cuts, including a 24oz Bone-in Ribeye and an 11oz Filet Mignon. Other favorites include Duck Confit Salad with Frisée, Lardons and a Poached Egg and a Trio of Beef Shortribs.
Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

Benchmark Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I had really high expectations coming in. While the ambience and lighting was wonderful and romantic, our waitress was rather unpleasant with a haughty air. The impact was that this made us feel less than welcome. The food was underwhelming and tasteless; our dessert of "strawberry shortcake" was leftover French toast with whipped cream and unripe strawberries on top. The prices do not match the quality of service or food.
We have been to Benchmark before for dinner as well as New Year's Eve dinner - the price is extremely reasonable, especially given how many choices are provided (more than the usual 3 at most places). The only issue (which wasn't an issue for us but probably impacted the owners of the restaurant) is that due to the frigid temps, they didn't seem to be able to use their heated extension tent (as they have in the past) so the number of covers/table turnover was probably a lot less than on prior New Year's Eves when that area was usable. It probably was impossible to keep the tent area warm enough for dining comfort and/or would have been cost-prohibitive from a profitability standpoint. I think the fact that they made this decision (the correct one in my opinion and those dining with me) is another reason that my group will be back here again - the owners didn't sacrifice their service or their clients in order to make a buck. A true neighborhood gem that is still a pretty well-kept secret!
Although we did have a reservation we were made to wait 15 minutes for our table. I understand scheduling is hard (we both used to work in the industry), however, during that time we could have been sold nice cocktails, were any kind of menu provided. Too bad... The server seemed a little bit overwhelmed.
Food was very good as usual. Don’t go there if you’re a vegetarian since their forte is (delicious) meat :D
On a whim My wife and I decide to go go for dinner. The night prior a friend boasted about this place he had gone to the night prior. I called and made reservations. While in route to the restaurant there was a brief delay in our travel , which made is run behind schedule. At that point My wife called and informed them of the issue. Very promptly the gave us a other time . That was the start of a great evening. The wait staff not only gave the specials of the day bit she was very knowledgeable about the wine list and her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed the entire meal from start to finish. We enjoyed the the entire experience overall.Our friends and family are aware of the new "SPOT" to be . Please be advised we will be seeing you very very soon. P.S. we are looking for somewhere to jave christmas and New Years dinner....
Always a pleasant meal - very good food and a low-key comfortable setting. Everything we have had, from great burgers, properly seared tuna, and spicy lobster salad, to especially outrageously good/crisp fries was excellently prepared and tasty. Staff are lovely and over the years, we've always left with a smile on our faces.
We had a wonderful meal in a lovely laid back setting. Our bottle of house Tempranillo was delicious and paired beautifully with out steaks which were cooked to perfection. All the sides (mashed potatoes with goat cheese and spinach, fries and tomato/onion salad) were delicious. Very nice wait staff. The chocolate trio dessert was also wonderful and well balanced...not overly sweet! Considering we had such as full meal for two we were pleased by the bill ($140). Definitely recommended!
Not sure why people are giving outstanding ratings on food that is really just good or above average. My wife’s salmon dish with potatoes was good. The salmon was cooked well...medium rare...but underseasoned and unaccompanied by anything that really stood out. We pan roast potatoes and onions at home that are better seasoned than those on her dish. My filet was also underseasoned, although cooked perfectly (medium rare). The highlights were the apps (lobster bisque and lobster salad).
The menu is very dated...feels like going out to dinner in 2001. People should not be giving this five stars. With all the options in and around park slope, unfortunately we won’t be coming back.
My wife and I were out for a quiet Saturday night dinner, and Benchmark was the perfect place! The ambiance was comfortable, with simple elegance—votive candles and sweet little flowers arrangements perfectly decorated the tables. The service was excellent, our servers went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed a good dining experience. The food was delicious, my wife enjoyed a very fresh heirloom tomato salad, while I enjoyed the lobster bisque, and then we both had the Kobe steak, really a quality meal. We’d highly recommend Benchmark for a date night or even a special occasion.
Absolut worst waiter ever. Had no clue on ingredients and when made aware of a food allergy answered "you should be fine" and never checked with the kitchen... also never came back to refill drinks and switched up orders... in addition the food wasn't that good. My medium well steak was overly well.... not coming back
Ordered the NY strip, as I usually find this more tender than the marbled rib eye...disappointed because it was tough in texture, although tasty. Delicious potato/goat cheese purée! One waitress for 10 tables; a bit slow. Outdoor dining has inherent issues, but certainly turned off by bugs on my plate.
We went to Benchmark for a birthday celebration. The best thing about this place is the space. Unlike other restaurants in this area you aren't packed in here like sardines. The seats are comfy and there is room to actually enjoy a fairly private meal.
The servers were very attentive and made a special birthday dessert complete with a candle.
The food was excellent. We had the steak and tuna both cooked expertly and not overdone. Only complaint was the portions could have been more hefty.
What a wonderful experience in every way! Came for our 24th anniversary dinner (I had noted anniversary as the reason for our visit) and were greeted with a complementary glass of prosecco. Everything about the meal was perfect. The food was delicious. Standouts were the steak (bone-in strip), mashed potatoes, and the to die for desserts. The service was attentive, the atmosphere elegant and soothing (we opted to sit inside). I literally cannot wait to go back.
We had a nice time at Benchmark. We sat outside but it was getting cool as the sun went down so we moved inside. I enjoyed the scallops starter but wish they offered a full portion size! The scallops were small (but tasty and cooked perfectly) and the risotto was very good as well. My husband had the salmon and fingerling potatoes with chorizo and fennel which he shared with me. I'd order that for sure next time! My only complaint was that I didn't like the lobster bisque. We will be back though as their seasonal menus change.
The atmosphere was good and the service was great. The issue was that there were many flies around to the point that my daughter and I were swatting a lot and asking for more napkins to cover our glasses and any plates that we were not using right that moment. Although the food taste great, that put a damper on the experience. The seared scallops were amazing.
Came to celebrate my birthday. Phenomenal - food, service, food. Everything from our seared scallops to the spicy lobster to filet mignon (prepared perfectly) to delectable, creative dessert egg roll...simply delicious. I don't have one negative thing to say. Our server made my daughter feel included despite the fact that she was the only kid in the entire restaurant. She even tried a few new foods.
Even though we can during Restaurant Week, the main menu options were more than reasonably priced. Always a winner!

Many kids, vocal and some loose at 6PM Sunday dinner, but what did we expect in Park Slope!
This is my second time eating at Benchmark and I enjoyed it. It was fantastic, those ribs?! Oh my goodness! They were SO good, I wanted to order some to go. And our waiter was so patient, even suggested a wine to complement our meal (it was perfect). That caramel gelatto? SUPER GOOD.
Anyway, I'll be making Benchmark my go-to for Friday lunches with my girls. Thanks!
Our experience tonight definitely ranks as the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We waited for 2 hours for our entrees without a single person coming to our table to talk to us. About halfway through the wait, another server asked if we wanted another drink and having been trying to flag down someone for awhile we enthusiastically took him up. From that moment on the rest of the meal was awkward and it was obvious the two servers were disagreeing or confused about who was serving us. Instead of either of the servers or management addressing the issue, everyone decided the best option was to not talk to us and avoid eye contact the rest of the evening no matter what. When our entrees finally arrived they were long dead - having sat under the heat lamp for probably an hour or more. Then after asking for our check, our dessert arrived about 30 min later...still no one coming to talk to us or even checking on us really (except one very awkward exchange right after our entrees arrived with our original server, we looked at each other puzzled when he left the table). Even though the manager comped the meal, it took tracking him down on our own to even talk to him. We asked to speak to the manager three times - three times!! Without a doubt and with absolutely zero exaggeration, this was the worst service and most awkward/bizarre dining experience we've ever experienced.
