Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

Steak + Eggs
12oz new york strip, two eggs, breakfast potatoes, toast
Our meal took 2 hours and 15 minutes and the restaurant said it was due to ordering appetizers, but I'm not really sure this was the case, that seems a little bit strange. It was my son's birthday and the 1st and 2nd course were so spaced out they didn't even have time to bring him the piece of cake because he had an appointment to get to. They also didn't check in about the cake to see if we wanted to it and just brought us the check when we said we were out of time. The food was good, we've been going a long time, but the service is typically not that great, like with yesterday.
The food service was very slow. We waited an hour for our food to arrive and when it did they had forgotten to put the poached egg on my plate (it was brunch for Pete’s sake) and the cheesy potatoes were uncooked! They were unpalatable and nobody at the table could eat them. Never going back and definitely do not recommend it to anyone.

This restaurant was a disappointment! The menu presented on open table was far from what they offered at the restaurant. Then the waiter informed us of an additional two items that weren’t available. The waiter was not welcoming and had an eerie / nonchalant attitude. The food was tasteless requiring table salt and pepper. The drinks were mediocre. Will not return or recommend.

The Benchmark has been our eatery of choice for many years. The day I heard captain Beefheart trickling over the speakers, I knew I was hooked.

It was great to be back after more than a year away. The outdoor seating was very comfortable with great spacing and a heater. Service was good and the meat-eaters (the target of this restaurant) commented on the high, if not higher, quality of the meats. The meatless selections were great (asparagus) to good (vegetable 'chop'). We look forward to returning.
Had a great meal in the dining tent. Wait staff was courteous and attentive. The food was great—scallops and pork chops cooked to perfection 😍.
We got seated rather quickly, and that was where it all went downhill. Waiter approached us 10 minutes later asking if we were ready.. and we didn't even get a menu. 10 minutes later he brought us a menu.. and we waited. 10 minutes later we just walked out. Waste of 30 minutes.
Good was excellent. Waitress slightly inattentive but once we were able to get her attention she did respond
We love coming here. Great outdoor set-up all through COVID. The food is delicious. If you go, get the brussel sprouts side. DELICIOUS. Will be back again!

My wife and i enjoyed some fabulous hamburgers while more daughter enjoyed an excellent filet mignon. We look forward to returning

I don’t even know where to begin. The waiter hated working there. When we asked the waiter about a few dishes, he discouraged us from ordering them right away. We chose the fondue appetizer and it was horrible. Just some raw fruits and veggies on a platter. Very basic and no flavor whatsoever. If you are a vegetarian, there are no great options. We then proceeded to order the lobster and dumplings and stuffed Sole. Both dishes we immediately spit out after the first bite. The seafood tasted frozen, old and bland. We were extremely disappointed with our meals. We paid our check and I went home to prepare ourselves dinner. I don’t remember the last time we ate food this horrible. I have had food at a Long Island diner that tasted better than the food that was served here. The Brussels sprouts were soggy and greasy. Risotto was bland and no flavor. Not one great dish! I prefer the Brussels sprouts from Bare Burger, a fast food joint! Don’t waste your time and money!
Great brunch spot and options for our family of four. We sat in the Loki bar area and it was spacious and noise level reasonable so we didn’t feel like we were ruining other people’s meal with our kids’ noise.

Food: We ordered Fondue (cheese came out clumpy and watery), Wings (no flavor), Burrata Salad & the Brussels sprouts (were actually the best). Dinner - schnitzel sandwich (fries were good!) Lamb Shank, lobster dumplings (no flavor to either - the lamb was tough and there were 5 tiny dumplings, not filling enough to be a main)
Service: Our waitress had the worst attitude. I think she could tell we were taken aback by her and was better towards the end of the meal.
Atmosphere: The inside of the bar/restaurant smelled like stale cigarettes, it was overpowering. The outside back tent was decent. It wasn’t loud or crowded.
Unpleasant service coupled with a mediocre meal made the whole experience a 2/10
It was amazing.
The food & service was excellent. We started with the kale salad which was a nice size for the three of us. Very tasty & not overdressed. Then one of us had the crabmeat stuffed filet of sole - sauce was light & flavorful. The two of us shared the 24 oz. ribeye - cooked as ordered. It was delicious & was sliced so that we could share. We also shared the cod with mussels in a light broth, very flavorful. We ordered 3 sides - creamed turnips, mashed potatoes & the brussels sprouts - all delicious.

Our meal at Benchmark on Thursday was the best restaurant experience I have had in over a year. All three of us had NY strip steaks, done perfectly, and tastier than my last at Peter Luger. The diver scallops appetizer and creamed spinach, pureed potatoes, and turnips with pearl onions sides were superb. The dessert, which apparently shifts all the time and is not on the menu, was amazing: chocolate lava cake with caramel ice cream and something they called a chocolate chip egg roll that was like a deep fried cannoli. My mouth is watering as I write. Will be back to Benchmark again.
So nice to eat out again!!! Benchmark was the perfect spot for our first night out since the cold weather set in. Somewhat more expensive than I expected, buy good food and great service made it a great night out.
I absolutely love this place. Our waiter was amazing, the food was amazing, the drinks was amazing. Everything was perfect.
Our server Jason was fantastic -- personable, fast, considerate, informative... he made our evening extra enjoyable. The food was great as well and their patio/corridor is a nice change from eating along the street. This is a hidden gem!
