Benchmark Restaurant
Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

Benchmark has heaters and a covered outdoor space - it was the perfect space for my friend and I to enjoy an outdoor meal in the winter. Not only that, the food was delicious and comforting, and the wait staff were extremely cheery.
Excellent
David is a great asset to the operation
Very nice staff and the food is amazing. Sadly I did not take pictures even though the food was picture worthy...
Fantastic service, delicious food.
I initially gave the extremely negative review below. The restaurant reached out and apologized. Given how respectful and apologetic they were, I change my rating.
I made a reservation weeks in advance and they gave our table away. With our only option being waiting another 30-20mins, but that estimated wait time was even a guarantee. The waiter who tried to “assist” us told he wasn’t sure about the wait time. Incompetent.
Why give the option for reservations, if you do not honor them? Isn’t that restaurant management 101.
The food is delicious food and very attentive service
Christmas dinner with my daughter. Wonderful drinks, yummy steaks, sides were fantastic. Service was perfect. Thanks for the great evening.
Considering the year we're having, and the impact it's had - we couldn't have asked for a better dinner on a chilly night. We got engaged right afterwards, and it was the perfect dinner to have before hand. Will be back very soon
too cold for my wife too cold for my wife too cold for my wife
two dishes were objectively bad (duck and gnocchi).
Thank you for a wonderful meal. Happy Thanksgiving.
Another fantastic dinner at Benchmark! The lobster cocktail is amazing, the scallops delicious, and the wine list (especially at 50% off on Mondays) is creative. Looking forward to returning soon.
Had a late dinner with friends after a nearby concert and though the food was great, the service left little to be desired. The waitress made it a point to let us know we had about 10 minutes to get our order in before the kitchen closed and that dessert was completely out of the question. That was before we even had a chance to sit. I dont understand why the restaurant would allow such late reservations 10:45, if its employees are only going to make customers feel bad for arriving at that hour. Perhaps they would prefer if you closed at an earlier hour. Needless to say, after having suggested benchmark as the perfect place I was embarrassed and will most likely never return and I’ll be sure to remove benchmark from my list of recommendations.
we always love dining here.. great people, atmosphere, and the best steak !!
Food and service was fine but the coffee was abominable. Ambience was comfortable
and appealing but for brunch..GOT TO FIX THE COFFEE.
Restaurant was spot on in everything that is important, food, service and ambiance. We were there for brunch and all greatly enjoyed.
Amazing food. Beautiful location. Very kind and helpful service! Will absolutely be back.
Great time
The server was not conscious of the menu or any value in being an employee of this restaurant. I had to send back my Steak and it still came back with the wrong temperature. I will return to give this restaurant a second chance. Hopefully not the same service!
The food wasn’t to my liking but the drinks were good.Beautiful place they just to work on they food.
The food was pretty good and the service wasn’t bad. Overall I would dine in again.
Great spot, did fixes menu for Vday, everything was exquisite highly recommend. 100 for a 3 course meal so a little steep but everything was excellent
I made a reservation and was going to be late so I called and was very pleased with the phone call. When we got there we were seated right away and both employees were very nice. It was very slow and we were attended to very professionally. The food was amazing. We got the bone in ribeye and something else that I forget, but it was all awesome!
Great as always. Felt a little louder than usual, but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Did not order form the Restaurant Week menu, but went with the usuals - steak, salads, sides. Bread pudding makes an excellent dessert.
Wonderfully cozy spot with incredible food and great wine list!
My cousin and I came here for Restaurant Week lunch and were very pleased. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Very polite, pleasant staff. We'll definitely be back.
Always love coming here. My girlfriend and I took my mom here for Restaurant Week. We decided to come early to beat the traffic that we expected. The food was great as always. I had the burrata salad and then the filet mignon for dinner. While the food was great, the service left a lot to be desired. It seemed as if our server had their head elsewhere as we had to repeat ourselves multiple times and still didn't get the right order.
We had a great experience at Benchmark. The staff was great, they checked to make sure we were ok and recommended delicious food. I highly recommend the strawberry cream donuts.
Benchmark continues to offer one of the best NYC Restaurant Week deals around, with a $42 three-course pre fixe with tempting choices. Our filet mignon was cooked perfectly, with a nice crust on the outside and a cool center. Definitely take advantage of Restaurant Week to try this long-running neighborhood standout.
We took advantage oh Restaurant Week to spend some time together.
The food was average, the wine was very good. My date and I were waiting for bread for 20 minutes also.
Good food. Not great service. My cappucino was not even warm and I had to send it back. The waitress barely checked in and kept mis hearing what we were saying. Food was good but not as special as the price makes you think it should be.
Came for restaurant week, and for a Sunday brunch in nyc the place was surprisingly not that busy. When we were seated, I noticed that 90% of the other tables had already received there meals and were close to finishing. Our server was aloof and unfriendly. It took over an hour to receive our first course, and then the second course come out immediately afterwards. The donuts were already a bit stale and the whipped cream had melted. The lobster bisque was cold and we had to ask for it to be heated. The third course came out and was just underwhelming for the price (which only one of us ordered from restaurant week and the other ordered off menu - no difference in the prices). The mashed potatoes (for brunch is weird menu item) tasted like boxed instant mashed potatoes with some butter added- not good. The creamed spinach was not very good either. Short ribs Benedict was just ok. We won’t be coming back.
The server was not very attentive.
We found the one place in Brooklyn that serves a listless, lackluster brunch—and everyone but us seemed to know it. I would have left immediately upon finding an empty dining room with unwashed (lipstick-covered) coffee cups on the tables and a "musty basement" scent pervading the space, but that would have meant leaving with a hungry and cranky wife far from home. Instead we had a cursory meal and wrote it off as a mercifully brief learning experience. I was curious whether their dinner service would be any different, but I'm not about to find out for myself.
Amazing service and life altering good food. Definitely go for the steaks and chops, cooked with perfect execution.
Came for my wedding anniversary for the second time in a row and the steaks were outstanding again!! This place has awesome food!! I need to start going here more often. I plan to take relatives from out of town here when they ask for steak.
Great food and service-we had a nice relaxing afternoon brunch in a space that is tucked away behind the main street-always a pleasure to escape fro the street noise to enjoy a meal. we had great service and the food was spectacular!
Great food. Good brunch spot. A bit noisier than I would like, butt worth it.
Booked a table for indoors. They put us outdoors by the door which when opened was very cold . Service not the best, we waited 20 minutes for them to bring out dessert. Very expensive price fixed New Year’s Eve meal definitely not worth it.
