Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

Great meal! Service was wonderful as well. I had the salmon, and subbed out a side for the goat cheese mashed potatoes. Delicious, and our server was more than accommodating about all my questions and requests.
We had a later reservation on a Friday night. The waitstaff wanted us in and out as fast as possible. It was almost like their interactions with us were scripted and quite irritating. All of the food was over cooked and looked liked it was just reheated. Absolutely not worth the money.
Hidden gem, great restaurant! Would go again. Has indoor and outdoor seating
Fantastic steaks and extensive wine list. Leave room for desserts with options like bourbon sorbet.
Had a great Father’s Day meal. This restaurant is primarily a steak house, and they do it well. The handcut fries are a treat.
When making a reservation for Benchmark through the OpenTable site, upon choosing a reservation time, it asks whether you want Outdoor or Standard seating. Having been at this restaurant before and knowing that the weather on Fathers Day would be warm, I chose Standard so that we would be seated indoors and my father would be comfortable. When we arrived to the restaurant for the reservation and I mentioned this to the hostess, she said that there was no seating request... is this a glitch on OpenTable’s end that it doesn’t relay that information?? I don’t know. I do know that we waited at the bar inside about 40 minutes for a table indoors. The delay was tough considering we were all starving, but the food and wait service were great as always. I don’t usually write reviews but I wanted this known should guests mention this again in the future. Thanks!
Fathers Day brunch. Good food, good service although a bit slow but it was Father’s Day. Very accommodating when we asked to move to a table in the shade Not my first time here;won’t be the last
So let me say good amazing, I can’t drink Vodka but liked the sound of one of your drinks the waitress with the help of the bartender gave me an amazing drink. BUT more important parents of 5 date nights are important my husband and I choose Benchmark because of everything about the place we dined outdoors gorgeous night! But the young lady SORRY I didn’t get her name but she was very sweet hair in a bun, liked her immediately a party of 8 came they were so rude I was mortified the way they treated her but she handled it so well I mean above and beyond what she should have done, I have 2 daughters in food service I would hope they handle a situation as such if it ever happens to them. I’m most sorry I didn’t remember her name but my husband and I were there Sat 6/16 8pm table for 2 outside I hope you know who she is and she may get an applause from us as patrons and parents. If we will be back for the food 😊

Excellent service and delicious food in a cozy neighborhood neighborhood restaurant. I recommend the coulotte steak.
Excellent food and even better waiter service from Alex and Matt! They were wonderful and will be back again soon.
Really cozy spot, ambiance was great, food was also very tasty
1st the bad – we had early dinner reservations at 5 PM for 4 of us. We rec’d a voicemail from Mark at the restaurant with no explanation. When we tried to return the call (3 times) no one answered. We arrived at about 4:50 to find out what was up – they were involved in a party that was finishing up. So we waited until about 5:20 PM when one of us went in to see whether or not they were going to seat us. And they did. It was odd, however that no one came to get us since we were sitting right in the entrance patio. We were shown to our table, which was very nice. We ordered drinks only to learn that they ran out of a scotch that was on the menu. They brought a half serving, and stated they would only charge us for half. Right there we should have known! Seriously? You should’ve just comped us the 1/2 drink (not to mention we later learned that the cappuccino machine was broken and we couldn’t order that either!)
Now for good, and there was plenty. Our server, who was new was terrific. He was more than accommodating & quite professional. The food was very good. Everything that was ordered was enjoyed by all. That would include the scallop appetizer, the salad, the tuna entrée, the filet mignon and the salmon entrées. Coffee was good - dessert was fair. Overall, it was a pleasant evening given our servers good humor and quality service. A note to the owners – when you mess up as you did, you should, at the very least offer your guests a glass of wine. By not doing so you effectively developed zero good will.
One of the best dining experiences you can get. Food is good, drinks are well done, wine selection is fantastic. Every time I come to Benchmark it’s a fun and exciting time.
As always, the food was quite good. We ate outdoors so it wasn't noisy. (There was loud music indoors.) Our service was quite poor. I think it must have been our waiter's first day. He never brought the bread to our table. We had to remind him numerous times to bring our appetiser. We also had to remind him to bring eating utensils. Again, it probably was his first day on the job and we did feel sorry for him.
We stumbled upon this restaurant as a last minute reservation while visiting Brooklyn. The food, service and ambiance surpassed our expectations! Highly recommend!!
Great service. Halibut special was very good. Can substitute sides when possible.
Ist time here, came on a dinner date with my husband ... food and service was excellent, would like to have had a little more ambiance, candles on the tables would have been nice, but overall dining experience was great. The filet mignon was excellent. 👌🏻
We celebrated my friend’s birthday here - the appetizers were all delicious, burrata salad, seared scallops and foie gras. But it went down hill from there. The mains were hit or very much miss. Halibut special was tasty, ribeye was cooked to perfect order, a la carte filet was also well prepared. However both beef entrees were served nearly cold, clearly they were waiting in the window for the other two dishes. The last dish, the seared ahi tuna, ordered extra rare, but was served fully cooked, grey all the way through - it was horrible. We sent the entree back, the server did make sure it was rushed back to the table, but the first dish never should have been served.
The ambiance outside was a miss. A small attention to lighting design and a modest investment in greenery would have made this feel like a special getaway, setting a scene for an upscale dining experience. But instead there was nothing to distract from the reality that we were in a driveway with a tailgating tent stretched over us.
The server was harried most of the evening, in his defense I think they were understaffed. But a bottle of wine took two reminders and more than 20 minutes with empty cocktail glasses in front of us. He never came to check after our entrees were served, we had to find him to ask for refire on the ahi tuna dish.
I hope these guys clean up the rough spots. This place could be spectacular, the dishes that were good were very good.
Benchmark is a secret hideout in Brooklyn. The restaurant is attached to an adorable ivy covered bar (owned by the same guy who owns Benchmark) that feels fun yet oddly romantic. When you get to the courtyard, you have the option to sit outside, which is lovely, and perfectly lit, as you go further in, you can still sit outside, just in a covered tent...but the last and best option is sitting inside, which feels a little speakeasy, and a little naughty. The ambiance is perfect for date nights, but not so mushy that you can't go with friends or parents. The menu, is creative, and every dish we had felt like we'd died and had gone to heaven...and can we talk about the staff? They we're like a well oiled machine, attentive without being intrusive...this place should have a Michelin star...it's that f@$#ing good!
Really enjoyed our meal. Great wine list with a variety of prices.
It honestly would’ve been a lot better if the staff hadn’t ignored seeing that our table was so wobbly and didn’t get us a new one.
perfect steak and great wine. wine 1/2 on m onday
At Benchmark the service is exceptional. The service is matched by the amazing menu. We look for to returning in the near future for another exceptional experience.
We have been to Benchmark on a number of occasions, and always find the food, ambiance, and service to be quite good. Tonight, we brought my parents to dinner for the first time, and they enjoyed it very much. It’s a nice place to enjoy a delicious meal.
Good Food, Good Times, Great steak and great wine. I was very happy with my visit
Nicely laid out space. . Tables were well spaced. Excellent steak and fish Prices were moderate given the quality of the food.
It was over price for crappy food not worth it I been to restaurants and spent 3/400 on dinner but was well worth it
U get Wut u pay for but these people is one of the worst
I would never go back or send anyone there #neveragain
Only reason I went I seen good reviews but those people are liars 🤦🏽♂️
Overall pretty good. The crab appetizer tasted “fishy” so it went back unfinished but the duck entree was delicious! Really good wine list. I’d dine here again.
We went for my husband's birthday and found the service to be very rushed and unimpressive.
It was not the level of service we have experienced in the past.
We had dinner here with visiting family this past weekend. The service was very slow and very spotty. Never did get my hot tea after dinner. The food was mostly good to great. The beet / burrata salad was delicious and all the meat options that my fellow dinners ordered looked fantastic. I had the acorn squash and quinoa dish and that was not tasty or pleasurable to eat at all. We've been here a few times over the past 4-6 years, and the service is not usually stellar but usually much better. And this place is not for vegetarians.
Food was exquisite but the setting, ambience, service and noise levels were well below the expectations we had of such an expensive restaurant.
The entrance was surprising for a restaurant of this price point - a white marquis with outside tables. The real restaurant was at the end of the marquis. The table kept on shaking and the server seemed annoyed by us asking to fix it. The waiters were rushing us - they kept trying to take away our plates when we were not yet done. This happened four times.
Service overall was below par
I went there for my birthday last week and it was a wonderful experience. great food and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Great music also. thank you!
The restaurant was cozy and quiet. The food, especially the fillet minion, was very good.
I went for restaurant week and it was amazing!!! Had the beet salad, quinoa squash with mashed potatoes & veggies & the pecan bread pudding with bourbon gelato. One of the best meals of my life!! I will definitely be coming back!
Understated elegance , attentive and friendly service, artisinal cuisine.
We went during the restaurant week and found the food to be average at best. The only thing memorable was there were not many people there so the service was excellent. We won't be returning.
Nice place, small and intimate and bit on the pricy side. The food was good but average , not good enough to justify the prices.
We where a little rushed in the end because it was getting late, but still it was a Saturday night and shortly after we left and we’re standing outside chatting the waitress left even if there still where still other patrons still in the restaurant.
Disappointing from the tiny drink at the bar, no ambience, all the way to very average food (good steak) and service.
While it's not quite terrible yet, there are many better choices.
Always wanted to try this restaurant. So did so during Restsurant week.
Lovely space, great menu.
My only criticism is that none of our food arrived hot. It had obviously been plated much earlier. The sauce had set and everything was barely warm.
But maybe that’s what you get when you order “Restaurant Week” menu
