I strongly recommend to have STEAK FOR THREE, TWO etc for Japanese people. THREE for four people, TWO for three people would be fine size for standard Japanese. You can enjoy Sirloin steak and filet mignon at the same time! Enjoy your time here.
Food would be a 5 but bread didn't taste fresh. Service would get a bit of a better rating but waiter kept pouring in water into our classes that were sparkling only and didn't offer an apology. Regardless of the minor miscues, Ben and Jack's is awesome.
I love this place!, I was here a year ago; walked in the they remembered both my wife and myself!, service if awesome and the food it crazy great!, I can’t wait to come back, I dream about the porterhouse and Jack salad! The staff is super, the wine list is also fantastic. If you want a great steak in NYC this is the place.
Went to B&J for my birthday with a party of 8. We had several different cuts of meat and each was lousy. They seem to think if they give you a big enough slab of meat, the quality doesn't matter. The filet was dry and tasteless. The prime rib was tough and full of fat. One guest had fish which she couldn't eat. Oily and inedible.
The appetizers were ok but it's hard to screw up a tomato and onion salad or a shrimp cocktail.
This place is expensive and you leve feeling like you have just been ripped off like a tourist.
Save your money and go somewhere else.
VERY DISAPPOINTED.I have gone to this restaurant several times and it was very good unfortunately 2 weeks ago Took two friends for a birthday celebration steak quality choice not prime. Kitchen could not make a Bernaise sauce after 3 attempts.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
My wife and I came to New York to see a show, found this restaurant on line, made reservations, need needed for an early evening meal. Great atmosphere, quiet, both the food and wine were great. Pricey but worth it!
My husband and I ate here a year ago and it was terrific. We went back tonight and were very disappointed. The meat was grizzly and was not very flavorful. It did not taste like prime beef.
Liked it and would eat there again soon.
Always like this Ben and Jack's on 5th Ave. Not too busy street yet close to everything, the service is always good. For some reason, I don't like the steak for 3 that night, it is kind of dry even though we ordered medium rare. I had a better steak before maybe just that night. Overall, we had a great time eating in the restaurant.
Ben and Jack's offered a fine dining experience with excellent and attentive service. The food was overall very good but the steak we ordered medium rare was still a little cool in the middle. The layout is perfect for four or five people to sit together but not really "romantic". Basically it was a good fine dining experience but priced as a top notch one. Close but not quite fine enough.
Thos GRAt steakhouse was opened by waiters that used to work for Peter Luger steakhouse. I have been to Luger's and this gem do not have anything to envy Peter Luger. Great steaks, flawless service, great wine list (much better than Luger;s). I rather enjoy Be &Jack's (specially since they accept credit cards, so there is no hassle in just paying cash as in Peter Luger). Do not get me wrong, Peter Luger is a standard, but Ben * Jack's equals it. Great experience, every time I visit New York City.
I took my friend out there because she's visited to see me and asked me to go something, "THE NY".
We had steak for two, creamed spinach and a glass of wine. They were just perfect and we enjoyed with our meal and had another wine. When I asked my check, they made a mistake. my card was used for wrong receipt, and they apologized for it and offered free additional order. We had one more wine and felt good about their correspondence. I was very comfortable, so I will be back when I have some guests in the future.
We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, and the Ribeye Steak and split so we both had a great surf and turf dinner. Delicious creamed spinach and fried onion rings. The bass and steak were absolutely mouth-wateringly delish! Creamed spinach was delightful. The fried onion rings a tad on the greasy side.
Service is great. Solicitous servers waiting to help with anything. Fun evening with good company, good food, great atmosphere...what's left?
Great food, amazing salad and steak. I had the prime rib which melted in my mouth and the prices are very reasonable. Also the pri fix menu offers many lunch options. My server was also exceptional. I will be returning very soon.
Both the food and service were outstanding. As I work only two blocks away, will revisit soon.
The staff was very attentive; appetizers and main course both were well-plated and served with care. The steaks were delicious and generous ( easily shareable), as were the side vegetables. This is a very nice restaurant, with small restaurant appeal, and midtown steakhouse quality.
We've been going to Ben & Jack's regularly and always had a great experience. So we chose to go back for a special occasion with our family (we were getting married at city hall, some time ahead of our wedding ceremony that will take place abroad) and we requested a private room. The food was great, as usual, the room comfortable and the service attentive, but it was all very rushed. We barely had the time to sit down and enjoy a drink that the appetizers were there and we had barely taken the last bite of the appetizers that they were taking our plates away and the steaks arrived immediately. I wish we had been given more time to savour the moments and take a break between dishes, it would have felt more like a celebration...
Don't be suckered into dining here by the great Midtown view / location. Pedestrian at best. Expensive for food quality and portion.
We had lunch at Ben & Jack's on Labor Day and were there for the price-fixed lunch menu ($27.95). We got delicious onion buns for free, then we had the mixed green salad as a starter, which was good. Main course: Sirloin steak w/ mashed potatoes & broccoli - wow, the steak was amazing! Crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside, perfect with Ben & Jack's steaksauce. The potatoes and broccoli could use a bit of salt (which was on the table, of course).
For dessert we had cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake (+ coffee). Coffee was good, but the pastry was just amazing! Came with a lot of whipped cream, so the meal definitely lasted for the rest of the day. Sparkling water for $10 was a bit of a bummer, though.
The restaurant was very good but with a little more effort it could be great. They had our name from our reservations so should have spoken to us by name. The first waiter didn't know what kind of sole was on the menu, we decided on our own that it wasn't
Dover sole because the price wasn't high enough. The prime rib I ordered had a lot of fat on it, more than it needed for good flavor. The creamed spinach was delicious like we have had before at the other location on 44th St. It is good restaurant but could be gret restaurant with just a bit more effort toward service.
We were seated timely, served properly, food was superior (although serving size way too huge), great overall night!
i think this restaurant is quite good, quiet place.
but there is nothing special than the other steakhouse.....
We came here during restaurant week and had a great time. This restaurant has one of the most varied restaurant week menus I have found, and the food was delicious. Our waiter really made the dinner special, making recommendations and being very attentive throughout the meal.
The food was good, although we sat inside, it is definitely a great place to sit outside if possible. I was not impressed by the service. I had a reservation and waited at the bar to be seated. Turns out the hostess forgot about us and the maitre d apologized and had us seated. To put salt on the wound, the waiter was completely disengaged and rushed us through the meal. The food was good but certainly not good enough that another restaurant with better service can't compete with. Won't be returning here.
MY DINING EXPERIENCE WAS PLEASANT. I ENJOYED TH EFOOD, SERVICE AND WILL FREQUENT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN.
The food was great....the steak was prepared just right and was very tender and flavorful.
Rushed through dinner, which is not acceptable for a fine dining establishment. No sooner were the menus in our hands than the waiter was asking if we were ready to order. Main course came out a minute after appetizers were taken away. The food did not appear to be cooked to order and came out moments . The lobster was overcooked &the rib eye steaks were chewy. A special dessert had been ordered in celebration for a 50th birthday celebration. We wound up with a slice of cheesecake with a candle in it. I did email them & their customer service was excellent. I received a call within 10 minutes of my email. The woman I spoke to was very apologetic and credited us for the lobster tail and chilean sea bass, followed up by an email.
Went during restaurant week and ordered the prix fix menu. Even though the appetizers were good, not great, the steaks definitely made up for it. Cooked perfectly, both the filet and sirloin had tons of flavor. I wouldn't recommend going here for a quiet romantic evening, but rather for a good steak with good friends. All in all, I'd go back...
I keep returning here and each time the experience
is the same, outstanding!!!!!!
Had a wonderful lunch at your establishment. Had the Filet Mignon with mushrooms and it was absolutely delicious. Would have it again and also recommend it to others.
I was excited to see Ben and Jack on the Restaurant week list because I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for years. The good news is we stayed to the prix fixed menu and limited our expense. The service from our main waiter was good but the support staff was rude and very distracting by yelling over tables, arguing in the restaurant and removing plates before the meal is complete. The food was the biggest disappointment, absolutely no taste. We expected a lot more and there are to many awesome restaurants in NYC to waste a meal at B&J.
From the generous curls of Parmesan on the Caesar salad, to the perfectly mixed Old Fashioned, Ben & Jack's started things off with class. When the giant porterhouse arrived, with crispy German potatoes and sautéed mushrooms on the side, I was blown away. Every steak I eat going forward will have this as a watermark, and likely will fall short. The charred and salted exterior with a buttery juicy centre was absolutely delicious. Finishing up with a hot fudge sundae seemed like an appropriately decadent way to end the experience.
Love the atmosphere. It was quiet and could hear my guest. Food was delicious and tasty steak. They were attended and accommodate my needs. The service was helpful and friendly. We always had water and before we need to ask he had our meal ready. Very clean restaurant . I will definitely will go back to the restaurant.
this is one of my favorite restaurant in NYC.
but this time wasn't that great.
too may people was there, even we made a reservation, we waited over 20 mins.
I loved their steak on a hot plate but this time they served it on a cold plate and the steak wasn't that hot.
I might not go there any more.
I would highly suggest not to go to Ben and Jacks during restaurant week. I assumed that the special deals offered during this time period are for the purpose of gaining new clients; lets just say they failed miserably. The worst part of my experience was the service; the wait staff was unfriendly, I was rushed out and they paid no notice to an unsatisfied customer. I ordered filet mignon and it tasted like skirt steak. It was such poor quality and when I asked the waiter if it was indeed filet he argued with me about it instead of bringing me a new peice. I left almost the entire portion on my plate and after my expressed dislike for my meal he didnt ask how it was or offer to wrap it up. Overall food was overpriced and service terrible.
We went to Ben & Jack’s for Restaurant Week. They had a decent Restaurant Week menu – something for everyone. The portions were a good size and the steak actually came with sides (mashed potatoes and broccoli). Will definitely go back. The service was excellent.
Delicious food! Outstanding service. The food came quickly, and we made it in and out in an hour.
We had restaurant week menu, and they were great.
Upon arriving to Ben and Jack's I was impressed by the decoration, everything from the decor to the service was excellent. But after I had ordered my meal everything seemed to have gone down hill from there, my appetizer was a green salad which was over dressed. All I could taste was the dressing and it made the lettuce soggy. After my horrible encounter with the appetizer, my next meal was the main course which I ordered Filet with mushroom sauce, now any steak lover or any chef would know that filet's are the most prime cut meat out there, just by itself it is so juicy and tender. Which is why when you order a filet and you decide to give it a dressing you do not put too much because you want the sauce to complement the steak.
