Ben and Jack's on 5th Avenue Ratings and Reviews
I usually don't write reviews but when a place makes me feel beyond special, it's a must. Dined on Friday night and everyone from the hostess to the manager made us feel comfortable. We were thinking of ordering off the restaurant week menu but the waiter recommended the porterhouse for 2. Oh boy was he right! The steak was perfectly cooked and had a mesmerizing aroma. The cream spinach and mac was perfect! Not too salty and full of flavor. Phenomenal services, great food, well crafted wine list, and friendly staff. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to my friends.
I took my 13 year old daughter her for her Birthday. We had a party of 7 and we were put in a private room. My kids were allowed to be kids without disturbing anyone else. Our server was the best server that I had in a long time. The meals are pricey however it was okay for a special occasion.
We live in the neighborhood and this was our first time to Ben & Jack's Steakhouse. It was also a birthday celebration which was FANTASTIC. The manager, hostess/coat check, bartender, and our server Timmy were all knowledgeable and very friendly. We started with a dozen LI Oysters, which may have been the best I've ever had.Caesar and Beefsteak Mozzarella salads were next. For our main course the Filet Mignon, Pan Seared Diver Sea Scallops, and the Porterhouse Steak for 2. Everything was cooked to perfection.Finished off with a beautiful birthday multiple dessert plate. The plentiful martini's and Timmy's wine selection were just great. Limoncello and Grand Marnier finished up a perfect evening. They are now my local Steakhouse of choice. Looking forward to my next dinner there!!
Have been the restaurant a few times now. Always enjoy the meal, service and ambiance. Mostly go when it's restaurant week but have also been there when it wasn't. Definitely well worth it during restaurant week. Glad to see that their restaurant week menu was updated. Everything was delicious except dessert.
We had a Restaurant Week lunch for 4. Although the restaurant was nearly empty (just one other small party) and despite the fact that one of my friends is a long-time regular, we were given a bare minimum of attention by the staff. Once we declined alcohol (being in the middle of a work day), the (rather scant to begin with) warmth in the service evaporated completely and we were attended to with the attitude of polite sufferance.
The choice of appetizers was between a chicken & rice soup and a tired, generic green salad. Almost any fast-food cafe in the neighborhood invests a lot more creativity into its basic salads - and much more care into the quality of the ingredients.
We ordered veal chop, filet mignon, and lamb chops. All meat was offered with the same sides: mashed potatoes and boiled broccoli, damped on the plates without a glimmer of a thought. The veal was perfect, the rest - how should I put it? There was nothing wrong with the meat, it was just so... OK - and not an iota above.
Overall impression - tolerable, dull, utterly forgettable experience.
We have come to expect more from New York steakhouses.
We tried this restaurant for Restaurant Week. Overall it was a great restaurant. I ordered the half roasted chicken with potatoes and broccoli. I know it’s a streak restaurant but due to religious purposes I don’t eat steak so I was ever grateful that there a chicken option. My friend loves streak and when I saw the chicken option I was like “yea, let’s go check it out”. It was a lot of food, so it was worth the required $29 for lunch. I was stuffed to the max. My favorite was the pecan pie! I love desserts and the pecan pie was the best! Thank you for a great time and experience
This restaurant was amazing! I felt comfortable they treated me so nice. The food was fantastic! Full of bursting flavors even the vegetables. I give it a 5 star! I'm pregnant and had to order my steak well done and it was as delicious as when I order it medium well. Well done was still nice and soft and delicious. The desert was to die for. NY cheesecake yummy! Thank you for a great dinning experience and ambience
Service was AMAZING! Went for restaurant week and it was just average. Baked clams were salty, steak was cooked to perfection and cheesecake seemed a little stale. Also bought the lobster mac and cheese and it lacked seasoning. Servers made the experience worthwhile.
The service was good, atmosphere was good, but the food was terrible, they didn’t even try. Appetizer salad was literally salad leaves, without any topping, dressing, flavor, what so ever. Fairly disappointed, especially compared to other restaurants that take restaurant week seriously.
It's a steakhouse... how do you serve poor quality meat?? Our steak for 2 was loaded with tough silver skin which made it tough to eat. The place is dirty and the service was meh. The restaurant wasn't packed for 7:30 pm on Saturday night which is why I at least expected better service since the food wasn't worth it. The reason I gave 2 stars for the food is because I liked the creamless creamed spinach. Also, we ordered 2 steaks for 2 and the other one was okish.
Our waiter did the weirdest and most inappropriate thing when picking up our check after we signed it, he opened it up while it was still laying on our table and looked at it for a good 30 to 40 seconds. I think he was checking how much tip we left? I regret leaving 20% because it wasn't worth it and then that happened! $444 dollars wasted! Never ever ever again will I eat at this restaurant!
Ordered the bacon slices which were just giant slabs of fat with no meat for $5.95 a slice and a steak for 4 at $203. Steak had no flavor whatsoever and was a complete waste of money. Should have walked out right away when I saw place was empty. Never again!
Sorry to say the Chicken Parm left a lot to desire. The menu stated choice of sauce. I was only given 1 option. The tomato sauce was bland, tasted if a can of Hunts Sauce was opened and added. Reheating it the next night after adding some spice to the mix didn't help. I've eaten at your place before and loved it. My sisters steak was good but not worth the money. Sorry Ben and Jack.
Terrible service - should have known as only steak place available last minute on a Saturday night.. steak fine but when you are concentrating to find the waiter for water, bread, and wine it ruins the experience. First time I was ever motivated to write a review.
We both ordered the waygu Burger medium-rare mine was fine but my wife's was overdone she sent it back they gave her a new burger 10 minutes later that was purple and raw she sent that one back 10 minutes later they gave her another one that was purple and raw. They comped us the food we paid for the wine and left
I am a repeat customer. Their steaks are excellent. The seafood is also very good as are all their side dishes l. Their cappuccinos are excellent. Their hot bread, if dropped can make a hole in the floor. Well certainly a dent. It’s hard to understand why the bread is so awful no matter how many times I asked for replacements.
At 5:00 is was very quiet, but of course it was getting louder once 6:00 rolled around. That's tobe expected though. The ribeye steak was one of the best steaks I ever had. Can't talk about the price; I was being taken out by someone else, lol. The service was very respectful and kind.
