Ben and Jack's on 5th Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Ordered the bacon slices which were just giant slabs of fat with no meat for $5.95 a slice and a steak for 4 at $203. Steak had no flavor whatsoever and was a complete waste of money. Should have walked out right away when I saw place was empty. Never again!
Sorry to say the Chicken Parm left a lot to desire. The menu stated choice of sauce. I was only given 1 option. The tomato sauce was bland, tasted if a can of Hunts Sauce was opened and added. Reheating it the next night after adding some spice to the mix didn't help. I've eaten at your place before and loved it. My sisters steak was good but not worth the money. Sorry Ben and Jack.
Terrible service - should have known as only steak place available last minute on a Saturday night.. steak fine but when you are concentrating to find the waiter for water, bread, and wine it ruins the experience. First time I was ever motivated to write a review.
We both ordered the waygu Burger medium-rare mine was fine but my wife's was overdone she sent it back they gave her a new burger 10 minutes later that was purple and raw she sent that one back 10 minutes later they gave her another one that was purple and raw. They comped us the food we paid for the wine and left
I am a repeat customer. Their steaks are excellent. The seafood is also very good as are all their side dishes l. Their cappuccinos are excellent. Their hot bread, if dropped can make a hole in the floor. Well certainly a dent. It’s hard to understand why the bread is so awful no matter how many times I asked for replacements.
At 5:00 is was very quiet, but of course it was getting louder once 6:00 rolled around. That's tobe expected though. The ribeye steak was one of the best steaks I ever had. Can't talk about the price; I was being taken out by someone else, lol. The service was very respectful and kind.
I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday not only with good friends and family but also with the very attentive and friendly wait staff of Ben and Jacks. The Ben and Jack martinis were delicious. My party enjoyed the seafood platter appetizer and the Steak for 3. All was delicious. As a surprise they brought a dessert platter and serenaded me. It was a wonderful birthday for me!
Came here for Thanksgiving dinner with the family while visiting NYC from DC. Offered traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. Also offered their traditional menu. Wife and daughter did the traditional Thanksgiving, which they thoroughly enjoyed. I got a New York strip, which was excellent. Excellent wine list heavily skewed towards US cabs, which is par for the course at an NYC steakhouse. if you are a wine geek, you can find something you like for a price that you won't mind paying. Service was awesome as expected. would highly recommend if you are looking for a good NYC steakhouse for a special occasion.
It was ok. I had a 5:45 reservation and wanted to use the chefs menu, and if I didn’t ask for I don’t think they would’ve offered it to me or told me about it. I ordered the shrimp scampi which was awful. The sauce that they used tasted like pure lemon and threw the whole taste of the dish off. They were fortunately enough to graciously order something else. I then order the sirloin medallions in mushroom sauce which was good. It was just an ok experience for me.
This restaurant is generally excellent for dinner, but lunch is a different matter. The big problem is NO BARTENDER. I realize that cocktails at lunch for the business crowd is out of fashion, but for retirees, a good cocktail is an essential component of almost any meal. I couldn't get a simple vodka gimlet. My suggestion is, if you want an adult beverage, stick to beer or wine. The waitstaff can handle that, otherwise, go elsewhere. The filet mignon medallions weren't medallions (they were tidbits) and were overcooked. Not a good sign for a steakhouse. Eat dinner here, but avoid lunch!
The menu is uninspired and they don't list out the sizes of the steaks. I was there on a Saturday night and it was not crowded which should have been a signal to me that something was amiss. No specials at all. Meat was overcooked as was the lobster tail for the surf and turf, which was $69. My rib steak was just OK. I don't recall the old Ben and Jack's being this mediocre, but this was really an expensive but so-so dinner.
I initiated a dinner with a business colleague here based on my past experiences and built up the anticipation for a great dining experience. Sadly, we were both disappointed. First, we were seated next to the kitchen access along a narrow path between tables. Waiters constantly bumped into our elbows as they passed by.
Our waiter was arrogant and aloof. He took our menus after we ordered our appetizers, didn't ask for drink orders and we had to ask for service so we could order our entrees. Our steaks were both overcooked and the waiter never returned to ask how the meal was. We ordered apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. It came with chocolate ice cream and the server said they didn't have vanilla. I asked for the bill to be split with the exception that I would pay for the drinks. The waiter said "sure" and then presented the checks and declared that he only separated them equally.
Based on our experience, I would not trust this establishment for another business or social dinner, given the many other options available in New York City.
We are repeat diners at Ben and Jacks Fifth Avenue and always love it. We have people who only eat fish, seafood, or meat and everyone always says their food is excellent. All of the steaks are wonderful and cooked exactly as ordered. The ambiance is warm and cozy and the service is very attentive. Waiters go out of their way to ensure a great experience. Highly recommend.
Ken and Jack’s is one of our favorite restaurants in the city.
Weed here several times a year and this time had friends visiting from Arizona.
By the looks of their plates, they enjoyed it as much as we did
Thank you for yet another memorable experience and a delicious meal
I ate alone. I didn't drink alcohol. It was obvious they didn't care about me because I wasn't going to be a "big ticket" item. I asked for a quiet table, they put me next to the kitchen. I asked for a different table and they reluctantly accommodated. They ignored me the whole time. The food was terrible, except for the lobster Mac and cheese. Only checked on me after I tried several times to get their attention. Then I waited nearly 15 minutes for the bill. The multiple-people tables were their attention - bigger tips. Well, I normally tip very well for EARNED service. They didn't earn it.
