Restaurant is closed for renovations and should it be listed
We showed up with our invited guests to a construction zone. The restaurant was being renovated and was closed for business. Very lovely that Open Table is kept current and we were left to scramble to find somewhere to eat. Nice, very nice.
This review is more about Open Table than Belle! I made the reservations online that afternoon and when we got to the restaurant, it was closed! Not Belle's fault but Open Table's! Thankfully we did find a table somewhere else!
The restaurant was CLOSED!!! Taking OpenTable reservations, but closed for renovations. Not sure who is at fault. The restaurant or the app. Regardless, a disappointing sudden lack of a reservation on a show night out with my wife.
Lost confidence completely in OpenTable.
It was not open. Closed for renovations.
This restaurant is currently closed for renovations yet somehow people can still book reservations?? Did not find this out until I drove all the way to Memphis to enjoy a meal before a show and found this out.
The restaurant shows that it is open on more than one website online, but after making reservations and catching an uber to the spot, the restaurant was actually closed for renovations. They should update their website online so that people like myself won't be looking forward to brunch & just having to find another place to brunch at the last minute
Generally I love this spot, but they are currently undergoing an extensive renovation project and only have the pub area open for business. When making our reservation for brunch on Open Table there was no indication of this change. Upon arrival we were hit with this fact, and in addition we are presented with a very abbreviated menu! At that point we decided to seek out another location for brunch.
Mathis information should be posted on their website; as well as, updated on Open Table.
We were the first party to arrive for dinner (actually arrived prior to our 5:00 pm reservation) and over the course of our evening, we only saw a handful of others arrive (who were all seated in the same section as we were). Our first round of drinks arrived promptly and the waitress was quick to take our appetizer and dinner order. The food came out rather fast, but my entree was missing the sauce and I had to ask for that. The second round of drinks we ordered never showed up (even after being told several times that they were coming). We ended up canceling the drink order and requested the check.
Overall, the food was delicious (compliments to the chef and kitchen staff). The service; however, was less than expected given the number of parties in the restaurant.
We will try a different restaurant the next time we visit Memphis.
This was my first time here and they food was very good. Would definitely go back.
Quant atmosphere! Great service and good brunch options. Only negative feedback was that not all entrees came out at the same time thus our food was not hot when everyone was served
1. Long wait for service.
2. Never got items requested and the sever never came back
3. You can tell the server poured the drinks and left them sitting from the melted ice and sweat
4. Food was bland with a doughy waffle but for the price this is
5. The only time our sever came back after dropping food of and never bringing the items asked was to constantly ask for the check
I assume her focus was getting out /off work but the other male and female server in that section I saw checking on their tables
There were only about 5-6 tables sat so it wasn't busy
The food was great, but the service could have been better. The main waitperson was too theatrical. Drinks took too long to get to the table--we thought maybe the drink order had been forgotten but we couldn't get anyone's attention; finally, drinks arrived but someone other than our waitperson. When finished with our entrees, the waitperson came to the table to clear our plates and said "I'll be right back with your check." I asked about desert and was told, "oh, we have a really good cheesecake." My wife asked what else they had and it was only then that we we offered a dessert menu. It was not crowded and we had not stayed very long so it did not feel like we were being pushed out of the restaurant, but it was odd to not be offered a dessert menu after dinner.
Brunch food was really tasty and well priced! Shrimp & Grits had a lot of flavor and my friend gave great reviews of her 'grit bowl.' Coffee was the only food item that lacked (but if you like your coffee on the lighter side it would be fine).
Service was...interesting. A bit below average, but I suppose the food made up for it. Also, the restaurant could be hard to find if you didn't know exactly where you were going. I think they were doing construction on the outside which made the entrance easy to miss.
Out for dinner before a show at the Orpheum with my husband. We both ordered drinks and dinner, all of which came out quickly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals (I had the shrimp pasta and my husband had the steak) and drinks (I had the Tennessee Mule and my hubby had a local craft beer) and we left with plenty of time to spare to leisurely walk to the play. We already recommended this restaurant to some friends. Thanks for helping to make our evening out enjoyable!
Amazing food with very good staff. Server gave great recommendations and even the manager was readily available and checking on each guest. The server recommended we try Belle Tavern, which is a pub located in the back of the restaurant, which also has a separate entrance. On my server's suggestion I tried the 3-whiskey old fashioned, which is absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back and will tell family and friends.
We met friends downtown for a Friday night date and wanted to try someplace new (for us). Belle was the perfect choice and perhaps one of the best restaurant experiences in Memphis! We had great, personalized service, outstanding recommendations for food & wine in a great setting. There is some construction underway on the outside, but don't let it phase you. I will drive back downtown again and again to eat here. The Crabmeat Avocado small plate was excellent, the lemon vinegrette salad dressing delicious and light, the red snapper off the charts yummy. Parking is convenient across the street. I would also recommend either starting or finishing your evening in the Belle Tavern in the rear of the restaurant...great cocktails (and a sazerac that is as good as any in New Orleans!) Do yourself a favor and eat here!
I absolutely love Chef David at Belle! He has hired a wonderful staff that has always given 5 star service! Even though it's quality food the prices are still reasonable. Right now they are only doing dinner on weekdays and brunch, lunch and dinner on weekends but everything I've had has been great! They have a great deal during brunch where you can get a bottle of champagne and carafe of OJ for $15! The chicken and waffles is a must try and you have to try it with the white country gravy!! Literally it's a must!! I also love their collars greens at dinner and the ribeye. YUM!!! I can't rave about this place enough. It's great! I've been to an engagement party in their private room too and that was perfect size. We tried the onion dip, bourbon glazed meatballs and a few other appetizers that were all good too. They do outside catering and they have a cool tavern in the back that deserves its own 5 star review!!
Oh and the wine selection here is pretty good too!
We went for Mother's Day brunch. It took 20 minutes to get a cup of hot tea, because they couldn't seem to get the water heated. I kept getting excuses as to why I didn't have it.
My date had to keep asking for refills on coffee. It was almost as if the waiter had never waited tables before.
My order of a grit bowl with vegetables came with an over cooked egg. I had to wait for an additional 10 minutes to get a correctly cooked over easy egg.
I would not recommend this place due to lack of good service although I did like my food once it was finally prepared correctly.
Service was very good. Dining with children is always interesting when there is not a specific kids menu. Belle's staff made helpful and tasty suggestions and spent time talking to us about the preparation and made dinner enjoyable. The chef came out to check on our meal and made dessert recommendations to the girls. His fried pie was "the best thing I've ever eaten" according to the oldest.
I really wanted to like this place. We arrived at 11:00, which was when they opened. They seemed short-handed and not ready for customers. Our server was in a bad mood (although maybe that's her usual mood). She looked over our heads and told us to order. A little later, my husband knocked over a flute of mimosa. The wait person and the bartender, the only two people working, heard it (it's just one room) but completely ignored us. We madly mopped up the spill with our napkins and then went to the bar to get some napkins. Again, completely ignored. Finally, the bartender came to help. Our server was uninterested. I ordered an omelet with bacon. It came with chicken. There was so little meat in it, I didn't realize I had chicken until I'd eaten half of it so I didn't feel like I could send it back. When it was time to get the bill, our server arrived with a huge smile and many warm thanks for eating there. Servers, some advice: don't wait until you bring the bill to act friendly.
Great place. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We will be back. You have to try the deserts - we all tried a different one. All 3 were great 👍
Great find! In Memphis on business but stayed and found Belle - perfect downtown location off Main Street. When you're eating out alone, it's always nice to sit at the bar and get to know the people there a little. Always appreciate real advice from them too. Both JV and Michael were so warm with good conversation and food/wine thoughts. JV for the pork shank and Brussel sprouts and Michael for the couple of different wines to try. Delicious on all counts. Hope to come back someday.
Easter Brunch. Great Chicken and waffles. My daughter loved the Bacon and waffles. My husband thought the food was outstanding. He had shrimp and grits.
This is a hidden gem in downtown Memphis, even though it is right on Union!
It has some of the best food I have eaten in Memphis, a wonderful, quiet, but engaging atmosphere and excellent service. Did i say the food is amazing!!! Everything we tried!!!
Don't miss a visit to this restaurant.
The food was ok. Nothing to write home to mom about, although, for the price I expected to get a little more and for it to be better than it was.
Fantastic food and service.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place and the distinctly "Old Memphis" feel of the dining room and bar. I definitely would return to try more dishes. My first encounter was for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Having enjoyed that first visit, I was pleased to discover dinner on a Tuesday night was also a good pick. The avocado stuffed with crab was the winner of our three choices. Shrimp and grits was delicious and prepared in an iron skillet with simple but perfect Memphis style BarBQ flavor. The grits, tasty as they were, seemed an afterthought as presented. Texas toast for dipping in the sauce was a treat. The Red Snapper, the menu item we searched for when contemplating where to dine, was disappointing. Overcooked and much too salty; perhaps we'll give it one more chance on another visit. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
I had looked at lunch menu and veggies looked great on their website. I missed the fact that lunch was not available on sunday and it was brunch. I had already eaten breakfast so menu was limited for non egg dishes
Our food and drinks were delicious , The staff is super friendly . We can't wait to go back .
Had the shrimp and grits, grits were really good and wanted more.
The seafood wasn't fresh. The service was good. The snapper and crabmeat had a strange taste.
Not a great experience. Overpriced just so so food and underwhelming service. Very uneducated waitstaff. Too bad.
We had a great gathering of friends. Everyone had something different for Sunday brunch and everyone liked the food. The salmon was delicious. We will go back real soon.
We wanted to try a new place for Sunday brunch and was not disappointed. This restaurant has an amazing menu for brunch with so many good things it's hard to pick one. We will be back!
The food and service were outstanding! I see more of the Belle in my future!
Definitely not worth the money. The two romaine leaves that made up my salad were wilted and brown. The sauce on the ravioli was terrible. The prime rib was okay, but not a great dining experience!
The restaurant was closed for the night when I got there a moment ahead of my reservation
I Loved this little gem in downtown. Everything we had was fabulous. Fun, but nice and cozy. I will go back over and over.
This was our first visit to Belle Bistro. We had the Brisket and Red Snapper, which were both delicious. The brisket was some of the best I have ever had. Our server was excellent and very attentive. Great dining experience!
