This used to be nicer. We actually got engaged here so we were looking forward to a pre-Christmas dinner. Wine glass was like a tasting...barely 1/4 full for 13.00. Chintzy! I had a so so salad and bruschetta but the bruschetta was so salty I could not eat it....my 20 year old ate it, but he eats anything! Husbands gnocchi with marinara looked like it had sat around before it was served. It was all very so so and I really wanted to like it.
Been going for years and will continue to go back, but like every restaurant they are occasionally off. We experienced that 'off night', at least for us, recently. Mentioned the issues to the manager who was apologetic and willing to make amends. Figured if they don't know, they can't fix it.
Food is consistently above average, portions are generous, staff always pleasant, and are never disappointed we went.
We've been to Bella a few times per year for the past decade. It is solidly reliable but not outstanding. This time was different. Sunday evening it is usually quiet and as our family of four arrived at 5PM, it started out that way. By the time we left at 7PM, the occupancy was close to 80%. There were three specials - a halibut in lobster bisque over barley, a black squid ink seafood pasta, and a bone-in ribeye. We had one of each while my wife selected the salmon grilled as healthy as possible. Everyone was delighted with their selections which is unusual for our family. My halibut was delicious and amazingly was not overly salty (my weight the following morning confirmed this). Appetizers were solid - I love the chilled prawns with avocado and pickled onion. If they brought back the hazelnut gelato from 10 years ago, I might be forced to return monthly! Good show... we will be back again.
This time, we returned with our family for brunch. Everyone liked their dishes and the presentation. We loved the Frittata and the fresh fruit. Johnny our server, deserves a commendation -He was very attentive and served us with a great smile all the time. Thank you!
We went for Sunday brunch to meet up with old friends. Sat outside along the street but recessed so you get an intimate feel. They had sun umbrellas to keep the sun off you where needed. The food was great with some nice enhancements to the classical brunch menu. We were not rushed and could easily hear each other. The only negative was an occasional noisy motor cycle making their up Hwy 9 for a scenic ride to Skyline.
We returned to Bella Saratoga because were impressed with the lunch we had. This time, we had breakfast and everything was absolutely delicious and the presentation of dishes with so much taste. I ordered Frittata and was pleasantly with the flavor and came with delicious cubed, golden potatoes, fruit plate and cinnamon rolls.
The ambiance was nice walking in. The wait staff friendly, unfortunately lacking in performance.
(Had to ask for water twice and then go to the bar to get it, and many other things one would not expect in a nice restaurant). I ordered the: "Scaloppini Saratoga
sautéed natural fed veal & prawns with mushrooms in demi-glaze sauce". The veal was tough, over cooked and difficult to cut with a knife. The demi-glaze sauce was more like thick brown gravy from a can...awful!!! Nice atmosphere but would never go back due to the extremely poor food quality.
This a charming restaurant. The hostess was very sweet and helpful while we tried to decide where to sit: outside by the sidewalk (decided it was getting a bit chilly), inside (but there were some really noisy people), back outside in the covered area, where we finally settled in. We both had the salmon, which was very good. We shared the crab cakes, which were also very good. The wine was very expensive, and just OK, so I had just one glass. (When did restaurants start charging $14 for a glass of wine?) If it had been $10 for a glass I would have ordered a second glass and tried a different wine. But I would go back, because the staff, the food, and the location are all return-worthy.
We came for brunch one morning and liked it, so went back for a pre-show (Mountain Winery) dinner with friends for a special occasion dinner. Poor choice. Dinner menu is uninspired, and sides are boring. Had a steak - was overcooked (asked for medium rare and got medium) and the sides for every dish were either mashed potatoes which were over-garlicy and dry or risotto which was boring and bland. Veggies were good, but boring for dinner out. Didn't bother with dessert as dinner was so dull, we decided not to. Service was good - though the place was not full and they seemed overwhelmed...e.g., asked for more bread, never came, they offered at end of meal to bring some. And waited 10 minutes for check to be cashed out. Will not bother to go back. Too bad - cute place and good location.
The four of us went to this restaurant, for the first time, before a concert at the Mountain Winery. I had researched and found it on Internet and base on others rating. The restaurant has a great ambiance with its 100+ years converted house. It has a great outdoor seating but we chose to be seated inside because of an unusually hot, for this area, day. We got seated by the only window facing the street so it was like sitting outside with the cool inside temperature which was great.
The appetizer (fired calamari) was really good. Three of us ordered Caesar salad but they all felt that the it was too light on dressing and although the lettuce was fresh, not really that special. My regular Bela salad was good.
The food was really good. My Cioppino was really good. I had a taste of grilled salmon that one other person had and it was really good but she thought the portion was small. Tow other people in our group had the bone-in rib-eye which was a special for that day. I had a taste and it was fantastic, however, a bit pricey at $52.
The service was really good. Our waiter was very attentive, water glasses always filled, and special requests (one of our guests is on low carb and had a lot of requests) was taken care of without question.
It was just "fine". We needed a place to eat before a Mt. Winery concert and because I delayed this was really our only option. The food is not spectacular, but it isn't awful, either. We walked away just thinking "fine" ... Good wine list, and very nice servers. We had a great outdoor table. If they just stepped up the food this could be an awesome place.
The staff just seemed unable to keep up. It was Friday rush but we sat knowing what we wanted to order for a number of minutes. A server apparently not ours stopped and took our order. The drinks came fairly quickly as did the salad then we sat and sat. We were offered water and bread refills 3 times but we really just wanted our meals to come out. As soon as our drinks emptied they were quickly there to ring in another alcoholic beverage though. When our food arrived we said we needed to run and handed yet a different server our card, his name was on the check when we got it to sign, the bills was higher than we had expected but not all the prices were on the menu and no itemized receipt to see if it was right and no ability to wave the guy back down. The food was done well, just maybe some server retraining is needed.
We experienced a very nice evening with great service. The food variety was very good and the quantities per serving outstanding. While the outside temperature was in the 100's the inside was comfortable. There was a guitarist on the outside patio but it was too hot to sit out and enjoy the music. We enjoyed a very nice evening.
It was my wife's birthday and a Wed evening. Very nice on the patio and only 5 or 6 tables were used as it was slow. The server "Johnny" was great and kept a good eye on us.
The only letdown was the food. The bread came out and it was clear that it was from a pre-made dough that was heated up as it was hardened and had a pasty mouthfeel feel to it. Not good. I ordered a linguine with a white wine sauce. It was terrible. The pasta noodles were fresh, so that was good, but the dish had absolutely no flavor and the thick slices of raw carrot (yes carrot) in the pasta sauce didn't mesh well. My wife had a marinara pasta and again, very bland, no flavor.
The dessert was the mud pie and again, you could tell it was a frozen dessert that was put on a plate.
All in all, the place is cute, the outdoor seating in nice but if you want solid flavors and creative dishes, this definitely isn't the place
Location is beautiful and service was great but I'm going to guess the microwave is the most used tool in this restaurant's kitchen. The mussels appetizer was okay and the best part of the meal. All dishes came with a hockey puck of reheated risotto that was pretty much inedible. My partner had chicken Marsala that seemed reheated too, and the sauce was a gummy paste. My salmon itself was good but everything on the side of the dish was mushy and not yummy. So I don't think it was worth the price and I probably won't be back again.
We had reservation and were seated right away, but took look time before server came and told us about specials and took our order. Menu on website does NOT match actual menu. I was ready to order bottle of Pinot Noir that was listed on website, but it was not on the wine list we were given. I had salmon, and it was very good. Others had Chicken Piccata and Chicken Marsala. All enjoyed our food. There was a man playing guitar who was wonderful, but most didn't seem to appreciate the music.
We had an enjoyable time at Bella Saratoga. My wife had the sea bass special which was delicious. I had the cioppino which was quite skimpy for the price and I wish I had ordered the fettuccine in it as I was still hungry when it was finished. We had to ask for bread which is worth asking for as it is delicious! I asked our waiter for a ice bucket to keep our sauvignon blanc chilled but it never arrived. It was quite noisy inside until the dinner rush subsided and then it was quite quiet. My advice would be if the weather permits take advantage of the outside dining has the noise level will be much better.
Great location for those going to the Mountain Winery for concerts. Allow at least 90-minutes approx. if you need to go up the hill to the venue by 7:30 pm. Our seating was for 6:00 pm and by 7:25 pm we were leaving the restaurant. We were at the Winery by 7:50 pm so if the opening act is important to you, plan the right amount of time. Our waiter was very accommodating to our schedule knowing where we were headed but this is a popular spot so when we arrived it was already hopping. You don't want to rush your meal because the entrees are delicious. Fail to plan, plan to fail!!
My husband and I were out for dinner before a concert at the Mountain Winery. Bella Saratoga staff had noted we had concert plans (waiter acknowledged that at the table when we were seated) and followed through beautifully without scrimping on the service or making us feel rushed. BTW...The veal picatta was excellent!
