Bella Saratoga Ratings and Reviews
We've been coming here for years and this is the first time we've been disappointed. It has been our "go to" place for special occasions.
Granted, it was Valentines Day, but the service was slow, at best, e.g., seconds on bread never arrived, our server didn't check if we need anything, etc. A place as nice (and as expensive) as this needs to gear up for the expected crowd, most of whom made reservations, I'm sure. And how do you run out of the fish special by 6:30 pm? Overall, the food was good (as opposed to it normally being great) but the service was poor (as opposed to it normally being excellent).
Since we've come here for so many years, we'll give it another try, but if this happens again, we'll find another "go to" place.
Was there for a romantic experience with my lady and not the least disappointed. The wait service was prompt, attentive and friendly. No pretentiousness at all. We have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and never been anything but satisfied. Highly recommend it!
We had a problem when we arrived at the restaurant. When we arrived for our Valentine’s dinner...we arrived 10 minutes before our reservation. The hostess told us that we were not on the list & we did not have reservations. I explained that the reservation had been made on Open Table. She said we were not on the list “sorry”. My husband was not happy. Then she asked when the reservation was made? I explained it was Open Table in the morning. She then admitted her list was finalized the night before....so too bad. We don’t have a table. My husband was furious by this time so I told him we could go elsewhere. As we turned the corner from the restaurant my husband was still saying this isn’t right on Valentine’s day. So we went back & Showed the hostess the confirmation email from Open Table. She still said “sorry”. We asked to speak to the manager. They finally got us a table after arguing with the hostesses. They were two young girls. The food was great and saved the evening. This makes us reluctant to use Open Table if a restaurant did not want to honor the reservation.
I asked for lamb chops and was told by Morgan the waitress that since I came early it might be possible. She returned about ten minutes later and said it was not on the menu and I could not get it. I was disappointed that I was mislead about getting what I asked for. I did enjoy the ambience of the restaurant.
In November of last year I crafted a written review that was critical of a few things which were all related to service. I stated that we enjoy our dining experiences there and will continue to do so.
This time we both commented that we did not experience any of the previous issues.
The food was excellent, and the service was above average (not great).
We will return.
We were greeted by Saratoga locals just passing by to say hello to the owner. Love the neighborhood ambience yet a unique spot for dining.
Our favorite is the shrimp appetizer. So tasty and fresh!
Our dinner was served at a relaxed pace, yet the bill was delivered when requested since we were due at an event.
Thanks again for a fantastic meal!
The ambiance was superior, the staff was professional, friendly, attentive, courteous. Food was absolutely delicious (Italian, continental, etc). Excellent dining experience. My favorite restaurant without a doubt. Bella Saratoga is “the best” for food, staff, atmosphere, availability & pure enjoyment.
We booked a table here in advance of an event at Villa Montalvo. The old house is a charming venue. The food was excellent and the wine list extensive with a great variety of California and Italian offerings at numerous price points. We will go there again when we have something in the Saratoga area.
The food here is extremely overpriced. Brunch dishes are in the $17-$21 range with mostly eggs and pastas, very expensive especially when the quality is so low. My Eggs Saratoga, highly recommended by our waiter as one of the two egg dishes on the menu, was overcooked, with the Canadian bacon dried, the eggs seemed like they had been sitting around wait too long as the runny egg yolks seemed quite dense instead of oozing out when cut into, the toasted croissant was rubbery, and the fried cube potatoes so tough and dried and had no warmth at all. Yet, the dish cost $18, which was an outrageous price for an egg dish, compared to the much more reasonably priced offering just a couple of blocks down at La Me`re Michelle. Also, servers constantly removed plates of people in our party who finished eating faster than some of us, which was quite unacceptable in fine dining service. If Bella Saratoga aspires to charge exorbitant prices for its mediocre food, then it must educate servers never to remove plates from the table until after everyone has finished eating.
No need to confirm reservation. They were not busy. I did not find the food that good. Could be premade. Not fresh. Ive eaten here for over 20 years. Gotten very pricey for not so great food. But cloth napkins and table cloths were welcome. Old world ambience and outdoor dining available in sunny Ca. One of the few left where one can eat outdoors.
This was our 2nd Christmas Eve dinner at Bella Saratoga. We chose an early dinner (5PM) since the restaurant really packs in tables to get maximum business. We had no problem finding a parking space. Lots of room at that time. Wine list was medium long. The Zinfindel we chose was was excellent for the amount paid. Little bread triangles with an excellent butter cheese spread was a good beginning. I had the carrot puree soup and my wife the house salad. Service was almost too quick. My main course was boneless spare ribs which seemed more like pot roast. No need for a knife. The meat could easily be cut with a fork, The sauce and the orzo was the best part of the meal. Baby brussel sprouts were cooked just right. My wife had a bone in rib eye steak that was cooked just right. By the time we left, the restaurant had filled up and felt a but cramped. We will be back next year.
Food was decent, I think my expectations were too high. Service was great, wine was great. We sat on the patio, not our choice on a winter night (Xmas Eve), but it was packed., And we had made a last minute reservation. Turned out to be comfortable with a jacket on and the heaters running. I would give the place another chance.
The place has a Victorian look to it, which is nice from the outside, but is oldish looking inside as well. The waiters got the entrees first and the appetizers only after we reminded them again. They also missed the straws with the drinks, even after reminding them. Food was good, but service was not up to the mark.
This was the first time I have been to Bella Saratoga in approximately 10 years. It used to be great for lunch or dinner. After our dinner last week, I have no reason to go back, ever. Mediocre service. I could have had a better salad at a fast food place for half the money.
This used to be nicer. We actually got engaged here so we were looking forward to a pre-Christmas dinner. Wine glass was like a tasting...barely 1/4 full for 13.00. Chintzy! I had a so so salad and bruschetta but the bruschetta was so salty I could not eat it....my 20 year old ate it, but he eats anything! Husbands gnocchi with marinara looked like it had sat around before it was served. It was all very so so and I really wanted to like it.
Been going for years and will continue to go back, but like every restaurant they are occasionally off. We experienced that 'off night', at least for us, recently. Mentioned the issues to the manager who was apologetic and willing to make amends. Figured if they don't know, they can't fix it.
Food is consistently above average, portions are generous, staff always pleasant, and are never disappointed we went.
We've been to Bella a few times per year for the past decade. It is solidly reliable but not outstanding. This time was different. Sunday evening it is usually quiet and as our family of four arrived at 5PM, it started out that way. By the time we left at 7PM, the occupancy was close to 80%. There were three specials - a halibut in lobster bisque over barley, a black squid ink seafood pasta, and a bone-in ribeye. We had one of each while my wife selected the salmon grilled as healthy as possible. Everyone was delighted with their selections which is unusual for our family. My halibut was delicious and amazingly was not overly salty (my weight the following morning confirmed this). Appetizers were solid - I love the chilled prawns with avocado and pickled onion. If they brought back the hazelnut gelato from 10 years ago, I might be forced to return monthly! Good show... we will be back again.
This time, we returned with our family for brunch. Everyone liked their dishes and the presentation. We loved the Frittata and the fresh fruit. Johnny our server, deserves a commendation -He was very attentive and served us with a great smile all the time. Thank you!
