Food was good-would suggest serving bread to tables with butter or olive oil
Just really average. Cozy and crowded. Menu items a little deceiving.
Had reservation but had to wait for attendant to greet us and several folks walked right by without saying a word. Waiter was extremely slow getting to table once seated. Took almost 20 minutes before we got water. Food was excellent. Service was terrible. However, other waitstaff appeared to be very attentive. Our waiter must have been the worst of the bunch. Also, all you LTC folks, they DO have a 30.06 sign. So, no defending yourself if the bad guys come in. Unless, of course, the bad guys see the sign and realize it's illegal for them to be in there with a weapon. Oh wait, those are the best places for the bad guys because no one but them are armed.
Patrick, our waiter, was outstanding as always! We appreciate his knowledge and enthusiasm he possesses when he highlights the menu.
We ALWAYS come to Bella every time we come to San Antonio.
We always order our favorite Eggplant Josephine and Seafood Paella. This visit we were a little disappointed that the eggplant Josephine was on the bland side and not as flavorful as it usually is in past experiences. Unfortunately, the seafood paella was so salty this visit. During our past, many visits these entrees were seasoned to perfection. I am not sure what has changed in the kitchen but hopefully next visit it will be improved.
Exceptional! The lamb was perfectly prepared. Great wine list
Celebrated our birthdays ... both born April 16th. Our 3rd time to Bella's. Can't beat the food, atmosphere or service for a special occasion.
Enjoyable dinner in great atmosphere
Paella was outstanding
Eggplant appetizer also a winner!
My parents told my husband and I about this place and for the past two wedding anniversaries we have come here for dinner. This may turn into a annual thing for us and we may come more often if we can. The atmosphere, food, service and wine are truly amazing. We dined with Hannah this past weekend and she was such a sweetheart, very nice and had great recommendations. The whole experience is worth every penny! I would recommend Bella to anyone.
We were visiting San Antonio for the first time and this was an excellent restaurant choice. Would definitely go back!
The food at Bella's was great. The sauces and sides were well prepared and accompanied the meal perfectly. Service was also great. I only wish there were more tables along the river so you could enjoy outside dining along with the food and service.
Great, informative server assisted us with menu choices. Duck breast was nicely cooked and finished with a sweet potato purée. Paella was a bit salty and dry, but loaded with seafood. We split a salad (spinach) and dessert (salted caramel ice cream).
Wonderful food and service. Only thing was I did tell them it was my wife’s birthday and I was hoping for a little dessert with a candle to make her feel special. It was very nice though. 5 stars!
We shared an outstanding mussel appetizer. I had delicious paella and my husband had Bella Pasta which he declared great. With no room for dessert we thought, he had their wonderful bread pudding and I had the yummy salted caramel ice cream. Loved it!
Hands down the best meal I’ve ever had, and that’s not a hyperbole. I went with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday, and it was one to remember for sure. Incredible food, romantic ambiance, knowledgeable and friendly staff. No wonder it’s been voted the top restaurant in riverwalk so many years! We went with all of the recommendations from our server which were: eggplant starter, pasta for me, and lamb chops for my boyfriend. I’m not normally a pasta person and I don’t like lamb, but tried some of my boyfriend’s. All were excellent and wouldn’t have changed a thing! If lamb was always cooked like that, then I’d actually order it myself! We finished with a chocolate fondant, which was perfectly light and delicious. Perfect meal and atmosphere, and we both left saying it was the best meal we’ve ever had. Thank you, Bella’s on the River!
Fantastic place. I would go back anytime.
Bella on the river was absolutely amazing!!! Me and my wife made reservations for a Friday at 6:15 pm a week in advanced, and I can see why besides it being small and limited tables the food is amazing. We seriously couldn’t stop taking about how good the food was and how awesome and informative our waiter was all his recommendations were right on. From appetizer to dessert, this is our new place for date nights.
This place is very overpriced. The appetizers were barely edible
I would not return ever
Host was not pleasant upon our arrival. Restaurant was empty but had to sit on a corner at the end because he would have to “shift a lot” if we sat somewhere else. By the time we left majority of two tops were still empty.
And concerning the food the fettuccine was fresh and delicious however their signature dish which is the “paella” was terrible. First a paella is the Spanish dish not an Italian dish; if they made their main dish a risotto that would be more appropriate. Even if it was a good paella I can under but it was mediocre at best. In addition in an Italian restaurant only playing salsa music is also very contradictory. If this was rated as an okay restaurant I can understand; but it’s rated as the #4 I all of San Antonio. Also expensive for what it was.
We had a delightful mid-week dinner at Bella, transported to a small bistro with lots of Old World charm. Yes, the tables are close together, and the place can get a little loud in the stone walled cellar location. But the setting, service, and most importantly the food were excellent. Our app, salad and dessert were all tasty and well prepared. We shared their signature paella which was savory with properly cooked proteins, but the rice was a little overdone and mushy. Our server was charming and thoroughly professional. He steered me to a Spanish wine that I hadn't noticed on the wine list that went very well with the paella. The prices are high-end, especially in a touristy area, but they are well worth the splurge for a very nice meal.
Quaint old world romantic atmosphere. Great service and food...just needed a little more room...
A little hard to find on the Riverwalk. Very atmospheric with stone walls and custom made benches. Manager (owner) seemed pleasant to customers. San Antonio is a good eating city.
The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Very charming small restaurant in beautiful setting on river. Love this place!
Loved the meal. Food was amazing - possibly the best steak I've ever had. Great setting, was nice to sit outside as well, right on the river walk. Waitress was great, made sure we were well taken care of. Great wine, ice cream was amazing. Just a great time overall.
The restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night but we had excellent service and the food and wine were great!
Great food and service. Patrick was a phenomenal server. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Reservations recommended. Small and quaint. Great for a special occasion. Wine selection was excellent. We had the paella and it was delicious. One of the places to eat in San Antonio.
The table we were at was so uncomfortable and awkward. The seating was harsh and overcrowded. The noise level was unbearable. The wine was over priced. The food was average at best. The charcuterie plate was great, however. The cheese and meat (especially the cured duck) were wonderful. Such a shame that everything else, from the ambience and uncomfortable seating, to the food were lacking. With so many options on the river walk, this one is a complete disappointment
Enjoyed the atmosphere and food!
The service was impeccable: warm, friendly, informative and professional. The wine list is excellent, with cult and classic gems. Food was perfect. Perfect night!
This restaurant is incredibly crowded and Incredibly noisy. We went for a romantic evening and this is not a good place for that. Much better for a group because of the noise
LITTLE RESTAURANT BUT SO NICE WITH REALLY GOOD FOOD
Seated as per our reservations immediately upon arrival. Waiter did an excellent job with explaining the meal and drink specials and was very knowledgeable regarding the wine and menu in general.
All courses of the meal were excellent.
I was very happy with the overall quality and value.
Wonderful experience at this beautiful restaurant The team makes you feel like old friends even if it is your fist visit.
We made reservations for two for a date preceding a visit to the Tobin Center for a performance of Vivaldi. My reservation was for 6 pm. We took a wrong turn on the River Walk and were three minutes delayed. When we arrived, a group of six people were trying to decide at the top of the steps whether they wanted to dine there. I stepped around them to let the host know we had arrived since I did not want him to think we did not show and we could have easily have been mistaken as part of the group of six. But we were not and the host was surprised that we were not. He told me rather curtly that the group trying to decide would be seated first. No problem. It was his attitude that was offensive. His intercession pushed the group to their chairs. He seated us next. I will never eat there again if I can help it. Though the food was excellent, the host was insensitive and rude. I know it’s good business to make a larger group a priority, but there was no way I could tell whether they had made up their minds as we waited for them to decide. I had to take action so that we could make it to our show on time. If a party wants to attend a show, this might not be a good place as a reservation means squat to this management.
It is no surprise that Bella on the River was rated recently by the Express-News as one of the top Ten restaurants in San Antonio.
Great atmosphere, food and service!
Some random stranger walking beside me and my colleague suggested it as he over heard us deliberate on where to go. It was was the best random referral and thank you random guy!!! I went back every night that I was in town. Perfection.
We were in San Antonio on vacation and wanted to have at least one evening meal that was a dining experience - Bella filled that desire perfectly. Atmosphere was great - it was romantic and lively. Our server suggested a wonderful wine, the food was great - best meal we had in San Antonio. If we visit San Antonio again, Bella will be on of the reasons why.
We often try other culinary hot spots in the ever expanding San Antonio scene, but when we really want a special experience, we go to Bella's. The food is ever-changing, the wine list is second to none, the service is outstanding, and the ambiance is worldly. The ONLY drawback that can come with this experience, is the occasional loud mouthed person that might be seated at the tightly packed tables. When one is there, as was the case this past Saturday night, it will seem like he/she is speaking directly into your ear. This lady had obviously had too much to drink and talked loudly and theatrically at a screeching level that I had never heard. Her English bf wasn't much quieter, but he did finally address her about being so loud and she responded favorably. This of course, is no fault of the restaurant, but a loud and rude person can spoil a cozy intimate area.
Celebrated our 15year anniversary at Bella. They sat us at a very romantic table made for two. It is somewhat of a centerpiece table tucked to the side. Very romantic and cozy. Amazing food and great wine list. I had the lamb and my husband had a filet. A must!
