We were in San Antonio on vacation and wanted to have at least one evening meal that was a dining experience - Bella filled that desire perfectly. Atmosphere was great - it was romantic and lively. Our server suggested a wonderful wine, the food was great - best meal we had in San Antonio. If we visit San Antonio again, Bella will be on of the reasons why.
We often try other culinary hot spots in the ever expanding San Antonio scene, but when we really want a special experience, we go to Bella's. The food is ever-changing, the wine list is second to none, the service is outstanding, and the ambiance is worldly. The ONLY drawback that can come with this experience, is the occasional loud mouthed person that might be seated at the tightly packed tables. When one is there, as was the case this past Saturday night, it will seem like he/she is speaking directly into your ear. This lady had obviously had too much to drink and talked loudly and theatrically at a screeching level that I had never heard. Her English bf wasn't much quieter, but he did finally address her about being so loud and she responded favorably. This of course, is no fault of the restaurant, but a loud and rude person can spoil a cozy intimate area.
Celebrated our 15year anniversary at Bella. They sat us at a very romantic table made for two. It is somewhat of a centerpiece table tucked to the side. Very romantic and cozy. Amazing food and great wine list. I had the lamb and my husband had a filet. A must!
My wife and I may come back to San Antonio just to eat here again. The food was amazing, easily the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. A beautiful location on the river walk means you may have to walk a bit to get there but is definitely worth the effort. Bella's was busy but we were seated almost imeaditly thanks to "open table" application. Based on the quality of the food and staff, the cost was a value.
Our favorite restaurant on the Riverwalk! The cozy setting reminds us of the quaint little places we find in Italy. The food is wonderful and the service is always outstanding.
The food and the service at Bella on the River is always good thus it is one of our most favorite restaurants. We enjoy the cozy space as it reminds us of time spent in Europe. It means a lot to us that we can have a nice conversation while enjoying our meal. I would recommend Bella on the River to celebrate any occasion or just for a date night.
Great waiter. Sharing was a very nice option for us.
Traveling for visiting San Antonio. Food was excellent
Warm welcome but tables are oh so close. Service and dinners made up thiough for the crowded and noisy ambiance. Would still recommend, very nicely prepared food!
Great location, food, ambiance ..etc.; however, the most notable for Bella was the very "professional" waiter we encountered. We were there for a business dinner. He was able to recommend dishes, drinks pairing and was very attentive. He certainly makes the Bella experience a wonderful one.
We have been dining at Bella since it opened almost eight years ago. It has a varied menu and the food is always top quality and presented beautifully. The owner, David Snyder, has maintained the excellence which has been the hallmark of Bella since day one. Great wait staff, wonderful ambience, and riverwalk location only add to the exceptional cuisine. We live about 20 miles from downtown but it's always worth the drive to treat ourselves to a night at Bella.
We heard this is a romantic venue and indeed it is. Best for couples, and probably not ideal for more than parties of four as the space is not very large. We made reservations using Open Table and were very happy we had done that as the place was full. There was also a small bar area with seating. We had a table for 2 next to the side wall, which was nice because it was quiet and you could see out the window. There were a few seats outside, but you probably have to request outside seating. The food was phenomenal, and better than we anticipated. Very interesting dishes and great service. Would love to come back next time we are in town.
The host Sometimes sad. Had a cancellation and he would check it out. Other times he sad we have no tables for an hour check back. I didn’t like that. Is you have a table available or you don’t, for everybody. Always checking to see if someone had canceled seemed rather odd to me. The place is small and lood
Wonderful service. Limited menu, but everything was delicious!!!! Highly recommended for a great evening.
Beautiful ambiance. Food just ok. Go for a drink. Service was awful. I would go back to sit at the bar and order a glass of wine. Dine elsewhere. Eggplant app was terrible.
We received a gift certificate to Bella's--so glad we did! The food was excellent and the service was perfect. This is a great place for special occasions or a night out--be sure to make a reservation.
The lobster and sea scallops were amazing. Yum yum yum
Romantic old-world feel on the San Antonio River. Paella was good.
This is one of the few restaurants on the Riverwalk with quality food. The Paella is great.
Patio seating is nice but a bit awkward if you're on the side with your back facing the river.
We came for the food based on a magazine article. The ambiance is fantastic. Old world charming. Service was outstanding. Food did not disappoint. The polenta is heavenly! Right on the Riverwalk.
Great romantic view sitting outside right on the river walk. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious and portioned.
Loved everything about this restaurant! Food, ambiance, staff were all perfect!
Great restaurant on the river walk in a quaint setting and is very romantic. Food was excellent, service was outstanding, not only the server but the manager (or owner) frequently checked in. Be sure to make reservations, as this is a very small restaurant and seems difficult to get a table without one.
Great dinner. Great for date or everynite dinner
Bella’s is wonderful. The food was excellent, the service was great and the ambience fantastic. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in town.
All of the food was fantastic! The Pasta Bella with homemade pasta and various seafood in a cream based sauce was not heavy but silky and rich. The Lobster and scallops were cooked perfectly! The chocolate fondant dessert with cherry compote was the perfect blend of sweetness and tartness. The ambiance was intimate but not intimidating. Our server, Steve, was attentive and knowledgeable. Make a reservation and enjoy!
What a wonderful restaurant. Great ambience, great service, great food.
Make sure to try to the finish off with the salted caramel ice cream, it’s amazing!
The restaurant is tucked away on the riverwalk- off of the beaten path and has a romantic atmosphere. However, the restaurant is slightly cramped- but that is the nature of restaurants on the riverwalk. The food is moderately expensive ($35-$60 per entree) and just really didn't live up to the price point for us. We had the tomato soup, fried pork chop, and Bella pasta. The soup was acidic for our taste. The pork chop was saturated in oil and very bland. The pasta was okay, but very fishy tasting. The pasta tasted like there was a lot of shrimp juice poured in the sauce- which may be to some people's liking. Overall we were disappointed the quality of the food for a $120 meal (above food and 2 glasses of wine). I cannot speak for the rest of the menu, but I would recommend exhausting the other nice Italian and seafood restaurants before trying this one.
Was a fantastic experience. The energy was awesome. Wine recommendation was phenomenal. Thank you for the fantastic time.
Great place! So glad we found it for our brief time in San Antonio. Great food, service and ambiance.
Our meal was absolutely delicious. Shout out to Patrick, our server, for the fabulous service and detailed description of the various dishes. His recommendations were spot on for us, and superbly delicious!
A special place - good attention from staff, good food presentation. From appetizer (Eggplant Josephine), main course (Red Fish) to desert (Bread Pudding) - the meal was superb. A small and cozy place to experience a fine meal.
Surprise in Riverwalk. Not your everyday chain restaurant.
Our food was fantastic, the atmosphere was romantic and the food was amazing. We look forward to returning upon our next visit to San Antonio!
We went here for our anniversary dinner while on vacation in San Antonio and could not have picked a better place. The food was phenomenal and so was the service. Our waiter Steven was extremely knowledgeable about each item on the menu and was able to make excellent recommendations for wine parings. Absolutely make a reservation if you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night as they were turning people away while we ate. If we ever get another kid free night while in San Antonio, we will be back!
Lovely evening - service was great and food outstanding. Would highly recommend. We love cozy restaurants- loved the feeling here from the moment we walked through the door.
My wife and I had dinner here on 2/20 on our trip to San Antonio. I had the Rigatoni which was wonderful. She had the Pasta Bella and loved it. The small room is intimate, with lots of natural stone, and low lighting. Service was excellent. We liked it so much we reserved a table for 2/21. This time sHe had the Rigatoni and I had the filet mignon. Another great dinner!
Amanda took excellent care of our party and the food was amazing. My favorite place to bring my out of town guests.
This is a great place. Like eating in a cave. Small tables close together and just a cool place. We live in San Antonio and this is our favorite restaurant on the Riverwalk!
