Bella Monte Ratings and Reviews
My only regret was not going for dinner.
The week leading up to our visit I anticipated pasta. The lunch menu didn't have much choices, and nothing that interested me. That's not totake away from the lunch menu either. The mussels and calamari appetizers we so good
Icouldn't decide on my entree so I ordered 2 (salmon pizza and veal and meatball). Afterall the prices were really reasonable. The samething happened when the time came for dessert. I ordered 2 (fairly priced, why not) canoli and coconut cake, and let me tell you.. OMG!!! Unless you're allergic, it's a must have.
The menu was not what I envisioned, but I was not disappointed. Everything I imagined at anItalian restaurant was on the dinner menu. With that being said, I HAVE to try the dinner menu!!!
Food and prices-A+
The piano and saxaphone makes This a great date night "place to be". I know I'll be back
I made reservations thru OpenTable which has always been easy and accurate. I had requested a special table and let it be known it was a special birthday dinner. The table location was not special nor was there any mention or recognition of the birthday. These are the negatives. The rest of the dining experience was wonderful. Tony was friendly and professional. Waiter was informed and attentive. The wine and the dinner selections were absolutely more than gracious. All of our dinner selections were delicious and cooked to perfection. The music was definitely "old school" but was performed wonderfully. Overall our experience was very good and we will return and certainly encourage our friends to dine there also.
Food, service, everything was very good. We went for dinner with family in town and chose this restaurant because it had entertainment, a piano player and drums. Music was great, but the restaurant itself is noisy, and we wish we could have heard the music clearer. All in all, we had a very nice experience and will definitely go again. Next time we may even sit at the bar. Looked like a lively group there.
We tried Bella Monte for the first time on Valentine's Day and really enjoyed the waitstaff and the atmosphere. The food tasted great but our pasta dish was barely warm as if it were played and left to sit in the kitchen until the other plates were ready. We were excited to order the Valentine's Day special and although the middle of our steak was cooked to medium, the outside was completely charred making it in un-enjoyable to finish. We did note to our server the disappointment in this part of the dish. there are many items on the menu we looked forward to coming back and trying although we are hesitant to do so based on this experience.
I recommended to a friend that we meet for lunch at Bella Monte last week and was thrilled that everything was perfect! Tony, the owner, is such a gracious host and makes you feel welcome and special the minute you walk through the door.
My friend and I hadn't spoken in quite a while so it took us considerable time to even look at the menu. Our waitress was delightful and professional and did not rush us...much appreciated as so often I have felt a very negative "attitude" when this has happened in other restaurants!
From a very impressive lunch menu we both decided on the same salad: Poached Pear. It consisted of Port poached pear, baby kale, mission figs, crispy prosciutto, candied pistachios and lemon honey goat cheese vinaigrette. We both agreed...AWESOME!
I cannot wait to go back to Bella Monte!
Highly recomend for anyone to revisit this spot if you haven't been in awhile. New owners in May 2015 have taken and elevated this treasure to a fantastic wine tasting, gathering, top notch resturant. new bar and the wine tasting machines are stocked with the best. you have to see the genuine Sequoia
Christmas get together with friend for dinner started great with prompt attention by server for drinks and appetizer. Few patrons early evening but as restaurant business picked up, service went south and ended up being a two hour visit. Wait for entree was lengthy and hostess attempted to intervene with explaination that kitchen got slammed. Food was delicious and menu variety a big plus along with wine selections.
I had parmesan encrusted flounder served with corn risotto and despite the risotto being served on the cool side, the meal was fantastic because the fish was flavorful and served right out of the oven. The risotto was good, just not as hot as the fish so perhaps they were prepared separately.
I am late in writing this review but nonetheless I feel compelled to write it because our experience was so incredible! When first seated the table was not in a very favorable location ...since this was a special celebration for my husband and myself we wanted everything perfect. We didn't have to say a word...the owner picked up on it right away and escorted us to a perfect window table.
Now settling in to a lovely table and awesome piano music I said "this is a very sensible restaurant". Have no clue where that came from but I was pleasantly transported to my "urban days" and feeling the vibe and energy of a favorite uptown city restaurant!
We chose a beautiful Zinfandel, The Old Ghost, and to our happy surprise we were able to purchase 1/2 case...again, Tony, one of the new owners was extremely accommodating in assisting us with this purchase!
We enjoyed the Bruschetta Pomodoro and Cesar Salad to begin with...both delightful and satisfying. On to our entrees...Tuna Tapenade which was amazing. The quality of the tuna was right up there with the best I've had. My husband enjoyed the Bronzed Scallops...absolutely no complaints!
Top off this experience with wonderful service from our server and you know we will return!
The new owners have done a great job. The "open" ambience is a nice improvement. Continuing the Wednesday night "Wine & Dine" is a great idea. Just "Smaller Portions" in general is a great idea. Overall, the atmosphere is delightful ,the food is very good and the service is very profesional.
We went for a birthday dinner date/celebration and were really impressed with the overrall ambiance and updated look of the restaurant. The bar was big and expansive with plenty of seating room. There was live-piano romantically playing in the background, and we were promptly greeted and show to our reservation. When we requested an alternate seat, the hostess happily obliged. During our meal, we were checked on multiple times--even by the manager (or owner?). I loved their house Pinot Noir (Lesse Fitch - CA) and our entrees were tasty as well. The Chicken Parm is a bit more fried than traditional breaded ones we're used to, but I loved the Shrimp pasta. Reasonably priced, with cheaper options, too (like pizzas!). Thanks for a great evening! We will definitely be back!
New ownership, redesigned dining room and huge wine tasting area. The food was tasty and portion generous. Option presented for glass of wine $13 or $19 for the bottle. Bottle an obvious better deal and you can take the remainder home.
Dining room looks much better without the Greek columns. We're glad they stayed in the neighborhood will be there weekly from now on.
I have been to Virginia Beach quite a few times over the years and had never heard of Bella Monte so I decided to give it a go. The restaurant has recently gone through a change in owners and is in the midst of renovation's so when you walk in, it's a bit barren. Service was great and the hostesses were very friendly, but the food was so-so. Ordered one of their signature drinks and was told they were out of the base mix, so they couldn't make it. The calamari were tender, but the coating came off as soon as you touched it. The plate ended up looking like a plate of shells. The entree's were decent.
Not sure if I would go back next time I'm in town.
We've been going to Bella Monte for years, but went this time to check out the new Enoteca, which was recently converted from their market/store. They installed a wine dispensing machine, so you get a card and try what you want. They told us that they swap out the selections every couple of days. The wine selection is good, prices fair enough for a place like that and for any wine above $19, you can take one to your table in the restaurant and drink it with dinner with no corkage fee. The décor on the wine side was nice with a few tables and cushy chairs to relax and enjoy the vino. They also have a short app menu for the Enoteca side.
The food was as good as usual, as was the service and prices very reasonable. Bella Monte can be a hoppin' place, especially on Friday night, but the kitchen was efficient and our server was attentive.
Overall... highly recommended.
I had looked at other reviews on this restaurant through Open Table and is one reason why I picked it. We were very pleased. The staff was very welcoming and took very great care of us. It was mid week so they were not that busy.....but I think this is still their style to be very accommodating. And the food was just great. From the Muscles to the salads and the meal. Had to even splurge and fit in some dessert. WIne variety was great and they made an awesome recommendation. We totally enjoyed our evening.
We had not been to Bella Monte's in a few years. There are new owners. They seem to have a perfect combination of service, great food very caring staff. They seem to be there when ever we needed something (no hovering) The piano music was just the right level of sound. It added ambiance and we could still have a nice conversation. The food was excellent and the wait staff was very knowledgeable. Seemed happy to be working there. We will definitely be back and will tell our friends.
I couldnt believe this was one of the few places i could get a reservation for the night before valentines day. Even though it was earlier than desired, bella monte was perfect. The waitress was top notch, we were seated as soon as we areived, had drinks almost immediatly and she was very nolegable about the menu. My girlfriend and i had never been here before but we will defianlty be back. Cant stop talking about this place to my co workers and family. Thanks guys, everything was perfect!
