Bella Mia Ratings and Reviews
Quite impressed with this place. Reminded me of a Italian throw back restraunt, I was waiting for Al Capone and the boys to walk-in!
Food fantastic, service impeccable and enjoyed the background music perfect volume level to hear and you could still carry on a conversation at the table.
My wife and I visited for the first time. Our waitress was friendly and gave us her suggestions for meals. The room was noisy when the entertainment began, such that my wife and I had to constantly lean in towards each other to talk. But then we were sitting near the front where the entertainment was stationed. So not sure how the volume was through out the rest of the room.
The meals (Lasagna and Chicken Bella Mia over angel hair pasta) were just ok. We both said there was something missing in flavor. I compared the Lasagna to On-Cor and the chicken dish was bland - could have used more kick to it - maybe some pine nuts.
The price was reasonable. Tip: ask for the house wine, almost $2/glass cheaper than the wine list.
It was our first time at Bella Mia and it won't be our last. This is a quirky, fun, neighborhood gem of an Italian restaurant, complete with the family feel and the good old neighborhood atmosphere. The food was very good and the servers were definitely in the neighborhood mode... a lot of chatter and hustle and bustle... like being part of the family. Went here for a birthday celebration and we will return! We decided to take dessert home with us and they were disappointed that they couldn't put a candle in it and sing!!! That's like being part of the family!!! Mangia!!!
This restaurant is always an excellent choice and most satisfying. However, note to Open Table: please consider changing the descriptive word for rating. I would have given maximum stars but the word OUTSTANDING is much too strong for any review and seems just too much. I could definitely go with EXCELLENT and have no trouble if it was the 5th star. It is an ultimate superlative without being over reaching.
We drove close to an hour for our wedding anniversary and order two appetizers, they were out of mussels, tried to order a seafood dish they did not have the seafood that the dish was made with. My husband order a steak they were out of porterhouse, proceeded to order a strip steak out of that, keep in mind each time we ordered or changed our order it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress Roseanne to come back and inform us that nothing we choose was available. we were there 45 minutes and ate two appetizers only to leave and the waitress charged us for the appetizers and never offered to give us a discount a future coupon or even contact a manager. If a waitress knows what food is available or not available we could have made differrent choices, not being familiar with the area we went home only stopping for an ice cream cone so disappointing on our wedding anniversary.
Had dinner here with daughter, son and DIL to celebrate DIL's birthday. Mixed reviews but I seemed to be the only one disappointed with the meal. We started with a dozen baked clams which were very good but VERY small. Tasty but not much to eat for $14. Meal comes with soup or salad; the cream of chicken soup was excellent. Also excellent was the hot bread loaf. No problem getting additional loaves.
I had the chicken parm, which comes with meat sauce. Not much meat in that sauce and there was a disappointingly small amount of cheese. The sauce wasn't very good and I'd only give 2-3 stars for that meal. Daughter had Pasta Valencia which has an abundant amount of seafood over linguine in a spicy white wine sauce. Very large portion and she loved it. Son had a veal dish and DIL had the lasagna and they both gave their meals 4 stars.
We each had dessert, the coconut cake, chocolate cake and tiramisu were very good, the cannoli not so much (no chocolate chips or pistachios; very bland). Throw in two glasses of wine, a soft drink and one cocktail and the prices sure added up.
Total cost of the meal without tip was around $200. Biggest problems I had were that they charged for one soft drink refill and even though we were there for a birthday, they didn't even give DIL her dessert for free. That struck me as quite unusual and when we were leaving we saw a big banner outside that touted a discount for your birthday. Really? I don't plan on returning as there are many other options for Italian food in the SW burbs.
