Bella Luna - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Now in its new location a block away from the prior restaurant...Bella Luna is still one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants for the last 22 years! Went with a friend and had delicious salmon and split a shrimp pesto dish. Shared a lovely bottle of Malbec. Price tag is exceptional and the flavors and consistency are always reliable. You don't need any excuse to have a great meal at Bella Luna!
Our party of three ordered a pasta dish each. All three were underwhelming. The speed of service was decent, but we enjoyed a better rapport with the bus boy than the waiter. The restaurant is well set up and tables have a decent spread. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to expectations.
Loved the old Bella Luna space, which allowed for more quiet dining, but the quality of the food and the value continue at the newer location. Very popular for an "early bird" special, none-the-less the restaurant offers a wide range of pastas and other Italian dishes at reasonable prices. My group of friends enjoyed celebrating a birthday here.
Always a pleasure to dine here. Have come to Bella Luna for decades (in their former location as well) and the food is delicious and consistent. I bring friends here regularly and if I have a date and want to stay in my neighborhood, this is my choice. Menu is diverse and very reasonable. Really high quality. We had the salmon and the lamb shank, both excellent.
Three of us ate parmigiana dishes: 2 chicken, one veal. No one was overwhelmed by the food, and we all agreed it was more like home cooking than a restaurant meal. Portions are generous but the chicken was a little dry as there was little tomato sauce to keep it moist. I have had better chicken parmigiana in the old location of Bella Luna, and other better dishes at the new location.
If they're going to serve veal that's like shoe leather, they should just eliminate veal from the menu. The rest of the meal was adequate, but not even up to Bela Luna's earlier standards. They haven't lasted all these years by compromising on quality, and they shouldn't now.
