Bella Luna - Goodyear Ratings and Reviews
First off, I booked online several days prior to Xmas Eve. We got there on time but they had no record of not only us but ANYONE booking online nor by phone. Some people waited almost an hour to be seated with reservations. This was the 2nd & LAST time we will go there. It only took us about 15 minutes to be seated. The service is great, however, the food was mediocre at best especially for the price. We ordered the salmon oscar. It was just adequate. The decor screams, "hey, the 1980's want their walls & decor back" It's small & stuffy feeling. There is so much more they could do to improve this place with the clientele in this community that can certainly afford it. It's really sad, the owner could spend a little money & make this shine but is apparently a bit out of touch with keeping up to date.
Food and Value are great. Noise level became unbearable. We were two people, and finally had to quit talking. We were practically screaming to be heard. If we go again, it will be at a time when we can sit outside. Hopefully that will help. When we dine out, it's a rare special occasion. Ambiance is important to us.
Not greeted very promptly, made open dining reservation and listed 2 birthdays and was not recognized. I did not mention it to the server because I thought it would be recognized without even saying we didn't want dessert, just bring the celebratory item to the table without even asking, so I speculated the server was not advised. We had a good celebration last time there and also went thru Open table listing B days. The lamb chop special which has been the same, used to be good, lamb chops were cooked ok, but the overly sweet sweet potatoes and asparagus all floating in melted mint jelly was not very tasty.Leave out the sweet potatoes and put that jelly in a small bowl on the side. Mussels still good, veal was good, but have noticed a change going on here. Seems to have become a bit more generic than it used to be. Service was ok but not as attentive as it used to be. The bus person came by several times and I was not finished, it is a good thing to have good bus people but at the right time and don't pick up the dishes until all diners at the table are done, feels pushy doing that. Menu needs to get revised and specials need to be recreated.
Made reservation. On arrival found that they had no space and the wait would be as much as 30 minutes. No real explanation as to why reserved space was not available. Placed at a table by the entrance to the kitchen where I had service staff working hard not to collide with my back. The table for four should never be there. Waiter was the worst I have experienced anywhere in quite sometime. Took 15 minutes to get a drink order taken. Delivered three salads and forgot the soup. Did not bring bread until the salads were served which was about 30 minutes after we first sat down. Timing of service for rest of the meal was very slow, and we were offered no explanation, no apology for the time or anything. He did offer ersatz European brusque, surly disposition.
We have dined there many times over a 10+ year period. Service has always been good, the food is awesome. It was embarrassing to have taken out of town guests there after raving about the place and have such a dismal experience. If it was not for the food, we would probably never go back.
The food was definitely 5 star. My wife ordered the Chicken Special and I ordered the Veal Oscar. I asked for Fettuccini Alfredo in lieu of the spaghetti marinara. The waiter happily made the change. The appetizer, salads, and entrees, were all spaced out perfectly. Tommy, our waiter was very attentive the entire evening. All in all, Bella Luna was the perfect choice.
I recommend getting a reservation here to ensure you get a table. Location seats avout 60 to 80 people by the looks of it. Great food selection. The wine selection could be a bit better unless your a big Pinot fan. Great place for romantic dinners and company get togethers. Lunch is good and prices over all are decent. Quality is high. Service is high. 4 stars out of five due to the wine selection.
We had high expectations for this hidden Goodyear, AZ gem! Planned a date night and wanted some good Italian. To our surprise our food was extremely bland and flavorless. We both wanted to send our food back but thought it would be rude. I ordered the Clam Linquini and my husband the Salmon Oscar. They both looked wonderful, but lacked any type of flavor. With the long wait time we had for the food, we thought it would have been wonderful. The wine, bread and dipping oil were good, but not when you spend $80 and have to take home the main food that you wont get eaten.
We were a bit disappointed and probably wont be back. Stick to apps and wine if you choose to dine here.
It has been awhile since we dined here. Our waiter Simon was friendly and very good. We weren't rushed. Our party of 4 ordered different entrees and each of us were satisfied. The portions are good sized, tasty and not loaded with salt or sauce. The fresh bread basket emptied out fast and deserts were delicious too. The price, portion and service is just right.
My friends and I decided to try out Bella Luna and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. We dined outside in the patio area which was very nice and relaxing. Our server was attentive and the food was spectacular. I had the 8oz filet mignon and it was cooked just right. My friends had ordered the chicken and shrimp Alfredo and both seemed to enjoy it very much. I will definitely be back.
It was my birthday...our waiter came out and played music for me...it was so amazing. I couldn't have planned it better! The food was fantastic as we chose the specials and the wine selection was one of my favorites. Amazing experience and would HIGHLY recommend.
Been here many times for fantastic dinners, never for lunch. This time brought 3 others who have never been here. Lunch is equally fantastic as is dinner. Had a couple specials, orange roughy with spinach and risotto and also mussels with scallops and a good size lunch menu which were perfect lunch portions. The menu is full of pastas, veal, chicken, veggie, salads. Something for everyone. Always greeted with smiles. 2 Diners had the orange roughy special, they devoured it all, very tender fish, great risotto and spinach. Another had the lasagna, was told that was the best lasagna ever. Homemade sauce, fantastic. I had the veal marsalla, great sauce, mushrooms onions and tasted like a few nuts. Also with great veggies. The bread on the table and dipping oil balsamic is great too. All meals come with soup or salad, yes even at lunch. Leave room for the fantastic tiramisu. Great to share. This is the real deal. Great staff. Alexus our server was great. Nice outdoor patio. Small bar, good wine list.
As the West valley continues to grow, it appears that quality fine dining still needs to catch up. However, there is no need to drive out to Scottsdale to find it. Bella Luna not only offers incredible authentic (and quality) Italian food, but the service is also unsurpassed. No more spending extra time and gas to drive out of my community --Bella Luna is our place from now on!
Took my boyfriend here for a romantic dinner. Thought it would have been much better given the abundance of positive reviews, but I was not impressed. Im usually very reasonable and not hard to please when it comes to most things. Our waiter brought us our drinks and then left. We had to go find him to ask for an appetizer. After he brought us our appetizer he gave us bread that was basically store bought white bread that had been toasted and even burnt in a kitchen toaster. 10-15 mins after finishing our appetizer we had to find our waiter again to let him know we were ready to order our meals. The clam chowder that came before dinner was very good. My Pasta dish, however, had no flavor and was so watery that the sauce seemed diluted. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal though, so that was nice. Still, this place was not so great and I will not be coming back.
This is not a chain place. Very nice ambiance, tablecloths, nice staff and a nice outdoor patio even though it is in a strip mall it is a really very nice set up .Everything is homemade and fresh with wonderful daily specials and a very nice menu with chicken, fish, pasta , vealand veggie dishes. Had the Lamb chops cooked perfectly with great sweet potato and asparagus sides. Comes with salad and great dipping bread. Also had the orange roughy special, cooked perfectly just the right flaky with great risotto and spinach also with a salad. And not only was our server Richard the real deal Italian and spot on, he also brought us tiramisu for our occasions and along with his guitar sang to us in both Italian and English wonderful occasion songs. What a great pleasant dining experience. We love this place and have been there before and will keep going back. Ask to be seated in RIchard's section when you call. High season a reservation is a must, but doesn't hurt to have one anyway. Owner hostess very welcoming and the entire staff very nice and proper.
Bella Luna is a nice affordable Italian restaurant in Goodyear, where Italian restaurants are hard to come by. The food isn't outstanding, but it is good. My time there was favorable and I would definitely repeat. I had the Chicken Parmigiana, nothing too fancy about it. Overall, our waiter was attentive, the food was good, and the restaurant was quiet which allowed a comfortable atmosphere to talk and not shout at each other.
Jeremiah was our server. He was personable and knowledgeable, with a good sense of humor. We ate outside because it was cool evening. We had the stuffed mushrooms, Lasagna, and Gambretta (?)ala Scampi, and bread pudding. . The food was good, but not amazing. This was our first time, and people do have different tastes. I would come back again to sample more of the menu I'm not trying to be negative. It was good to be outside, service was great, and there was fire. We stayed long enough to hear the music track run through the same songs at least twice. Fun music, though. Our table was tilted on top, and a lifting of the table cloth revealed the layers of particle board and laminate were separating from exposure. I would ditch it and put a plastic one there instead. You will have to endure car lights through the iron fencing. I would screen it with something. Next time, we'll move further into the outdoor area or go inside. I think it is worth a visit. We have been thinking of visiting for a couple of years. Glad to have had the experience.
Granted it was a Saturday night, and it Spring Training time but it just may have been a little too busy for Bella Luna.We usually have a little more personal feel when we dine at this neighborhood favorite.
We really like when the owner comes over to the tables and says, "hi". We feel wanted when
the waiter keeps the bread basket full, and drinks topped. We received neither on this particular
Thinking we had made reservations on OpenTable that would alleviate waiting for a table, that didn't turn out to be the case. Even with the reservations we were kept waiting for 20 mins. The table we
were given (there were 5 of us) was a table for 4 with a chair added in the main traffic lane to the kitchen. It wasn't a comfortable setting at all.
I had indicated on OpenTable that it was a special occasion for 5 ladies celebrating their 60th birthdays. I asked if it could be treated as such. No one mentioned, or recognized that once. :(
Apparently Bella Luna doesn't read OpenTable special requests.
As my friends were all visiting from NY, and Italian food in NY is a staple, they were not very impressed with the food, nor the portions on this evening.
I hope it was because of an extremely busy night, and perhaps they were shorthanded that this visit wasn't up to par. I will be back though. One poor night doesn't erase all the fantastic times we have eaten at Bella Luna. To me it's still the best Italian in the West Valley. :)
This was by far the worst Italian food I have ever been served. The bread had the taste and consistency of stale bread that someone attempted to resuscitate using a bun warmer/steamer. When we asked for a replacement, the new bread was the same. Instead of fresh mozzarella that is now customarily served in Italian restaurants, the Caprese salad had gritty mozzarella of the vacuum packed, grocery store variety. When my Lentil soup arrived, it was not hot and was very under seasoned. My wife’s Shrimp Scampi consisted of tasteless shrimp lying on top of a yellow, cold, congealed sauce. My Veal Parmesan arrived cold and appeared to have been made using a less than choice cut of veal that was pounded paper thin, breaded, and fried, resulting in a tough, granular, cardboard, unrecognizable tasting piece of meat. To make matters worse, it was covered with the foulest Marinara sauce I have ever tasted. The dish was so truly distasteful that I could not eat it. Each course was delivered to our table by a kitchen runner not our “server.” A few minutes after we had “finished eating,” a runner stopped by our table and asked me if I wanted my (uneaten) entrée boxed. I told her no because it really was not very good. She politely apologized, took my plate, and asked my wife if she was finished. My wife acknowledged that she was and volunteered that her entrée also was not very good. The runner said she would inform our server of our displeasure. Instead, a young man dressed extremely casually approached our table and, without introducing himself, apologized for the meal, and asked if he could bring us something else. I replied no and that we were done. Our server finally arrived at our table all smiles and asked us if we were ready for dessert. We were incredulous. I asked her to just bring us our check. When she brought our check, she offered an apology. We paid our bill and left the restaurant in total disbelief of the gastronomic disaster that we had just experienced.
Four girl friends and I enjoyed a "birthday" lunch during a Thursday at Bella Luna. The service was excellent and even though we asked for separate billing they were very pleasant about that - some restaurants are not so amenable to this. I have enjoyed lunch here in the past, but not for about 5 years, and it was very pleasant to have the same excellent quality of food and service that I had previously. Thanks again Bella Luna, we will be back and bring more friends next time.
I don't recommend. There is obviously no other Italian restaurants around due to the other better reviews. We are moving down to Goodyear and was looking for a nice neighborhood restaurant. this very average. We come from foodie places and this is NOT a foodie place to go.
