Have enjoyed Belga Cafe so many times. Always a wonderful experience.
Great neighborhood gem! Cozy, fantastic Belgian food, great for brunch and dinner. Love the waffles for brunch! The mussels are fantastic too! Great value!
Belga Cafe is a great brunch spot right near the Eastern Market metro stop. We had a fantastic afternoon walking around the flea market and brunch was great. You will want to have reservations, as it was very popular.
Wonderful brunch! Food was great, host and server were outstanding.
Great brunch menu and awesome ambiance. We live close by and it is one of our favorite restaurants for brunch.
We had so much fun with the wait staff and the food was fantastic!
My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine’s Day and it was an overall excellent experience. Our waiter was friendly and never kept us waiting. The food was excellent! We got the truffle mac and cheese, crab cigars, and a giant pot of mussels. Everything was outstanding: flavorful, vibrant, and comforting. The mussels come with a heaping amount, the only downside was that it didn’t have a ton of broth and it was all at the bottom/hard to get too (I love broth, especially with mussels so this wasn’t ideal). Other than that, I highly recommend Belva Cafe! Great for date nights or special occasions.
Sunday Brunch is always crowded, make a reservation unless you want to wait 30-45 mins.
Quality food at reasonable prices, our party had 3 egg dishes, all excellent, and one mussels marinara with frites; everything was delicious and service was excellent despite being crowded.
I ordered the french onion soup it was just ok and warm. I also ordered the croque monsieur and it looked like a dried grilled cheese I sent it back. How can you mess up this sandwich? don't call it a croque monsieur if its just a grilled cheese with ham.
We've always enjoyed Belga, but it had neen awhile since we'd been in. The Roquefort mussel pot was amazing, as was the cassoulet. Excellent wine and beer selections and the assortment of mousse were the perfect end to yet another wonderful dinner at this place. I love that it's in my neighborhood.
Great food and wonderful service. I will definitely be back
Love having Belga in my neighborhood. It's a dependable go to place any time of the year for a great meal. Mussels are amazing and I was glad to see they finally server smaller portions of some of the most popular ones.
Good food, great RW deals. I went twice and would go back again
We went during restaurant week. Great value!!! Onion Soup, lamb, chocolate mousse were fabulous.
The service was wonderful & the food was so delicious
Belga Cafe is a crowded, noisy place, with small tables and mediocre food.
Restaurant week brunch was great! The waffles were surprisingly mediocre but the rest of our food was amazing.
I went for Restaurant Week and was very disappointed. I had a wonderful meal the night before for Restaurant Week and had a choice of five starters, five entrees and three desserts. At Belga Café, there was only one choice for starter, one for entrée and one for dessert. I am allergic to mussels, and the only starter option was pumpkin soup with mussels. So that ruled out Restaurant Week menu. So I ended up spending $22 on lemon chicken, which was delicious, but the Restaurant Week menu was $22 and included three parts-starter, dinner, and dessert. So I spent as much as I had planned on spending, but got two less things. So it was a bust for me. I am going to Brussels in July for three days and wanted to try a bunch of different dishes at Belga Café but now I am not keen to go back after my experience. Hope they learn the importance of having more than one menu choice for Restaurant Week like all their competitors did.
Went in a small group for DC restaurant week. Great cocktails and extensive beer list. Our table tried a variety of dishes and desserts and all were excellent.
Washington restaurant week because previous reviews were positive, and menu interesting. Because it was WRW it was crowded but I like crowded. We could still have a conversation. Our waiter was EXCELLENT considering the amount of diners. He still made everyone at our table feel like we were the only ones he ever wanted to serve. Food was fantastic. Our group was very happy and intend to go back.
Belga Cafe has high quality food and high quality service, but I think management needs to make some adjustments. I know restaurant week is crazy, but I don't think that is an excuse to make us wait 45 minutes for our table! We had a reservation for 6 people at 7pm. We didn't sit down until 7:45. It was my birthday and the host was nice enough to give me a free drink, but truthfully the entire table should have received a discount for being made to wait that long for a reservation we made a week in advance. In addition, we were made to stand in the restaurant the entire time (no seating area for waiting), and we felt as if we were constantly in the way. Whose idea was it to put a point of service station right next to the front door? That needs to be moved immediately, it irritated servers as well as customers. Overall this is a great spot and the food was FANTASTIC, but they seemed unprepared for restaurant week. Management needs to plan better for a crowded night, and when a mistake is made, compensate your customers properly, don't just have your host throw the birthday girl a free drink.
The staff were all extremely accommodating, and the Restaurant Week menu was beyond worth the price we paid. Their Belgian beer selection is pretty big, and their bartender was able to pour us beers we both liked on the first try based on our (very different) preferences of beers that we’d already tasted. It was great!
Run out of ketchup. The food is not very Impressive
My friend and I got there for restaurant week. We did brunch and no options to choose from. Normally you have three or more each course to choose from. We end up ordering off the menu. Lastly wished that the waiter and bussers didn't stock you to take your plate away. I just lay the fork down and the plate was taken away and we still had a basket full of pastry that I had to hold and crumbs dropping on the place settings. It would be nice to have plate there to finish my whole meal.
Went for Restaurant Week. Belga presents its entire menu for Restaurant Week, not just a few dishes to choose from. We have been there before and it never ceases to please. The mussels are just like the ones in Brussels! Wonderful. The fact that they have "valet parking" should be advertised on their website and in the restaurant week info.
Not sure if I would come back here. We came for restaurant week lunch. My friend and I both ordered the steak frites as our entrée. I was expecting what one would normally expect when ordering steak frites - a single piece of steak and fries. No ounces were mentioned on the menu, so it is unclear what the portion size is supposed to be, but it normally costs $29.50, so I would have thought it would be at least 8 oz. Also, during restaurant week, you have to add $4 to the normal $22 restaurant week lunch cost when you order steak frites, which also made me think that it would be a good/normal sized portion. When we got our entrees, the steak was cut up into pieces (which is completely fine), but for both of our dishes it was only 3 bite-size pieces of steak (definitely not 8 oz, probably around 6 oz). I looked online afterwards (probably should have looked at pictures before going) and saw other steak frites all have 4 pieces. If they are decreasing the portions for restaurant week, they should state that and they shouldn't charge the extra $4. The flavors overall were good though for each dish. However, looking at the normal menu, if all the portion sizes are like what we got for the restaurant week menu, I think the portion sizes are too small for what they cost.
Food was served luke warm, taste was subpar and did not live up to the reviews read online. Our waiter was rude and I would never go back!
Excellent food, attentive service
Went for restaurant week. Food was okay. Kind of noisy.
Absolutely delicious lunch during restaurant week, the only thing negative was the slow service.
