Remains one of my favorite places to take out of town visitors for a treat.
DO NOT EAT HERE! We filed a complaint with the health department. They used dropped on the flopr rags to wipe down the tables. When brought to their attention the Floor Manager was rude and they continued to set the dirty table with new dishes. Disgusting! We left without eating.
Excellent brunch option. Waffles are crispy and yet fluffy. Plus, they probably have the best eggs I’ve ever had in life. Will definitely be back!
Over priced butt steak. Lived in Belgium for a year and came to Belga to indulge in Frites. Most definitely disappointed as they were basically McDonald’s fries. Not the guilty pleasure of what we became accustomed to while living there.
Would not return as the rest of our meals were just “okay”.
Disappointing! This had been our favorite restaurant in DC and we have gone there often. This time we were taken by surprise by a "market priced" item that ended up being twice the price of other main courses - for no apparent reason. (It was a small piece of fish.) The waiter never pointed it out and he became really confrontational when we politely asked about it when we got the check. It was really an unpleasant experience. And he was not a good waiter in other ways as well - like taking away plates before we had finished eating. Overall, we are sorry to see Belga decreasing portion sizes, increasing their prices, and slipping in their service. We hope that Bart will reverse this trend.
The service here is exceptional. They go above and beyond. Unfortunately the food is not as exceptional for the price you pay. The food is good but when we got the bill for soup, fries, and wine totally 42 each, I didn’t see the value at all. I don’t mind paying for good food but that didn’t seem worth it. I would come back though for brunch but not likely for dinner.
A fun place with a great and wide selection of Belgian traditional fare and a few other items. And amazing wine and beer selection.
Very good. Arrived three minutes late. Waited 10 minutes for a table. Everyone loved their food. Great beer.
Food and service were great. Always a solid restaurant selection. But this time the dessert was not as good as usual. Cream Bulle was extremely cold and cream felt like old.
We enjoyed our meal & felt we got value for the money spent.
Lunch with friends. Belga cafe is my favorite restaurant every time
We've been to Belga a few times, and until this visit enjoyed wonderful experiences. This visit we were challenged with poor service, including a waiter that appeared to be inexperienced. Our appetizer took a very long time to arrive, and when our entrees arrived almost immediately after, the waiter appeared annoyed when we asked for the entrees to wait until we could enjoy our appetizer. Only a few minutes later he returned to tell us rather curtly that our entrees were ready and asked to take away our appetizer, of which we hadn't finished half. In addition, in the past when booking at Belga through Open Table, and making mention of a special occasion, the staff would always do something extraordinary for our visit. It was our five year wedding anniversary, and although I made mention of this in the app, we received none of the usual Belga extraordinary hospitality.
We were very disappointed that the food came out cold and was generally unremarkable in taste other than the side order of eggs that was outstanding
Definitely a good spot to grab some brunch. Duc was a pleasant waiter and endured we were taken cared of.
Went for Valentine’s Day. Belga is a personal favorite so we of course enjoyed the food. Service is always very good and we’ve never encountered someone who isn’t pleasant and knowledgeable. Thought the fixed price menu was basically worthwhile, but honestly enjoy the regular dinner service more (more of a commentary on how much we like the regular menu than anything else).
Awesome Valentine's dinner with wine pairing!
Made reservations for my girlfriend's birthday dinner, our second year in a row. The hostess was great, she said "welcome back and happy birthday." She acknowledged our return visit which was a nice touch. However, once we were seated the service went downhill fast. We waited for water (we walked over 1 mile to get to Belga). We then ordered a couple common German beers, were told they were out, so we ordered something different. When the waiter returned, he had the original beers. From there, waited for a water refill, service intervals were few and far between, and in no way did we feel the staff go out of their way to provide at least good, basic service. Although the food was excellent and we were full, we were somewhat disappointed there was no birthday dessert offered (gf commented about the sparkler in her dessert last year, nice touch). Felt let down this time around. Will try Belga again to be fair--hopefully it's a great experience like we've experienced in the past (this was probably our 4th or 5th visit in the last 1.5 years).
Service was mediocre. Our waiter seemed annoyed when we asked what some (two) of the things were on the menu. Have zero desire to go back here.
This place is run with passion for service. Great selection of Belgian dishes and beers! Being a Belgian, i can say this with confidence.
French onion soup was the best I ever had. My daughter loved the poached eggs and salmon. Really cozy and upbeat place.
Love love love the brunch here! The flavors are great. Coffee is good and the servers are always pleasant and attentive. It’s a nice diverse brunch crowd!
They offered me a seat at the bar while I waited for my friend who was about 10-15 late. I was on time. I don’t drink so I didn’t really want to sit there so my other option was to wait in their small front area. Which I did. But they wouldn’t seat me as one without my friend. But they sat others with larger groups if they had 2. So it’s different from others. It was just frustrating.
A great spot, especially for Sunday brunch. The food is outstanding, and the ambiance is fun and warm. Highly recommend!
Not sure what happened on Saturday evening, but it seems like the kitchen forgot about entrees for 2 of our party of 4. We waited forever, then finally asked and they came out quickly. But it put a damper on the evening. We also were waiting on drinks, and it seems like our server changed mid-meal. Not acceptable at that price point. Food was good, ambience was nice.
Amazing food and super quick service. A little crammed but will be going back!
The customer service was very good. The music wasn't too loud, so I could have a conversation. The food however, was very bland. The menu sounds amazing, but the strawberry topped waffle I had, and the cinnamon roll waffle my husband had, was lacking a lot of flavor. Even the side of bacon I got wasn't flavorful. How do you mess up bacon? The food was not worth the price, sadly.
We always enjoy Belga Cafe. It was perfect for our date night on Sunday! From the warm welcome when we arrived, the attentive service and delicious food through the thank you on our way out it was a 5 star experience. Belga is truly a neighborhood gem!
i ordered a soup to start and it was luke warm. also go the special frites which said came with cheese and bacon. there were maybe 5 bacon crumbles and super tiny piece of cheese. they were also out of the bottle of wine we ordered so gave us a different one saying its the same price point -- which it ending up being much higher..... wouldn't go back a second time.
I came for Restaurant Week and really enjoyed it! It was really busy, but the service was excellent. I had the falafel waffle, squash, and dame blanche. All were delicious and had a lot of flavor!
Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Belga Cafe. The food was delicious and served well. We had the sunny window table. We happened to be there during Restaurant Week so there was an additional bonus of that nice prix fixe menu. I will definitely continue to take friends there.
Server had too many tables, but food was SO good. Bloody Mary was so great!
Always a great experience!
Fantastic food, especially the mussels. Ambiance is quaint and feels local like only you know of the place.
Excellent, classic Belgian fare, especially the mussels (the Diabolique is my favorite) and steak frites. The Belgian beer selection is phenomenal.
We went to Belga for Christmas Eve dinner. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying and having a wonderful time. We were seated timely. The service and food were great. The chef/owner greeted and welcomed us. It was a wonderful experience.
Anniversary dinner - very nice; special menu was great; the sole was superb.
