We had dinner to celebrate our son’s 31st birthday we are regular patrons of the restaurant and and are always pleased! The food is excellent service is excellent we spend many nights celebrating at Belga and we’re very pleased!
After waiting for 50 minutes for our food at lunch with no explanation for the delay from a waiter or host, we had to leave without eating.
Belga is still one of my favs as the 8th corridor continues to be gentrified. I will definitely come back again!
We typically are big fans of Belga but this time was horrible. The waiter was slow and unknowable of the food and beverages, which is a problem with a largish menu and an excellent beer selection. We were there for almost 3 hours and didn’t order apps. Additionally, the food is normally wonderful but this time was less than par. Both the beef stew and short ribs were under cooked and tough, and the fries were cold. It was a disappointing dinner with our family in town.
Amazing as always
My husband and I brought our mothers to brunch. We both love Belga's brunch and were excited to take them there. We requested patio seating which worked out well as the weather was fantastic. I was surprised, however, that they crammed all four of us into a small table. I have eaten at Belga with a party of four several times and, every other time, have been seated at a larger table (two small tables pushed together, for example). But despite the fact that the patio never filled up during our brunch (there was always at least one empty table), they chose to cram us in, even commenting once or twice about how tight it was. Because we love their brunch, we ordered entrees, sides, drinks, etc. It would not fit. We literally had to use the little seat on my mother's walker to hold coffee, tea, and plates of food. The servers just laughed. Ridiculous.
Great time celebrating Belga Cafe reopening!
It seems like they are cutting back on the size of portions so the value is decreasing. That’s unfortunate.
Great menus, both for beer and food. Unique items not available at other restaurants. Mussels are a specialty, so try them if you can. Service was super, waiter was very helpful and professional. One of my favorite restaurants in DC... and still is. Only thing... gotta count on hunting for a parking spot, as it's a very busy area, so allow enough time or take mass transportation.
Overall, food was fine but the hostess and bar staff were horrible. Arrived early (12pm for a 12:15 reservation) to confirm our request to be seated outside, hostess deliberately then sat another couple at the only available outside table. Had to wait at the bar until 12:45 (again, reservation was for 12:15) for an outdoor table to become available. Bar was not busy at all but bartender was inattentive and it took the full 30mins we waited for him to serve us our cocktails. There are too many equally good food places in the area to have to come back here to deal with poor service.
Luis our bartender was amazing !!!!! Great customer service, it was our first time checking this place out and we will definitely go back and visit Luis again!!!!
Lovely ambience and pleasant, relaxed staff. Food was delicious. My family enjoyed the three course special. Although I did see one small child at dinner, the menu didn't have any offering for children.
Went to dinner with my girlfriends for restaurant week and we had a wonderful experience. Excellent customer service from start to finish. Servers were quick and very personable.
waiters not very friendly nor kind and rather slow. No air conditioning and Saturday was really hot. The noise level is unbearable. We could not have a conversation.
Great place for brunch. A bit noisy, but the waffles are worth it.
Food was good, except for the fries. I’ve had better Belgian fries. Service was a little spotty. Took us awhile to get our dinner.
Definitely Recommend visiting Belga. Great food & service, definitely going back when restaurant week madness is over, I'm sure it will be even better experience than this one! !
We live about 3 hours from the District and it's been a couple of years since we last visited Belga Cafe. Staying nearby for some medical visits, we decided to walk to dinner there. Unknown to us it happened to be Restaurant Week, so we took advantage of that great offer. Our dinners were both superb (living up to our memory of our last visit) and the service was excellent. We added a bottle of wine from their list and, again, it was excellent and a good value. Even without the Restaurant Week offer, Belga is a great choice!
Outstanding, very good restaurant with great food. The best is Washington.
Went as part of a group of seven a little late on a Sunday night. The food and service was great. Everyone enjoyed their meals (salmon, mussels, steak, stew, etc) and we had both some of the interesting beers and some beautifully prepared cocktails. They were very patient with the kids we had in tow (and discovered some new favorites in the process). As good as one could hope for from a top-tier restaurant.
The food is delicious. We heard that the restaurant is really good. As we are Belgians, we could not resist trying the cuisine in Belga café during our stay in Washington this August. The main course was delicious and then we do not even speak about the waffles we tasted afterwards. Certainly recommended!
The green eggs and the Jamaican Jerk turkey bacon were excellent, as was the cinnamon waffle and Cheese & BBQ ribs waffle dish. Among my group, there were a couple other dishes that weren’t quite as great, and there were a few initial hiccups with people being brought the wrong meals, but our server was very friendly and quickly sought to resolve everything. It was a very popular place for brunch and the drinks were delicious. Would overall recommend.
Service was very good. Ambience was nice. Food was terrible. Hanger Steak was fatty and made me ill. Mussels were dried out and over cooked. Salads were meh. Really, really disappointing meal.
It was my wife's birthday and the staff did a wonderful job making the dinner special for her.
Fantastic meal in a relaxed and charming space.
The food was good. I had mussels they were tasty but I have had similar very good mussels at a much lower price. Trout was excellent. Dessert Belgium sundae outstanding. I would return for the dessert. I’m wondering if they changed the chef as I have eaten here before and thought the food was better.
I gave them a second chance and they blew it. It is still an awful restaurant. Food was so so. The seafood omelette smelled fishy and tasted like old fish. My meal was brought to me first and we had to wait five minutes until they brought my partners meal. Very disappointing to have a awful meal and cost us $60.
We will not return ever ever again.
Great variety of choices on a very busy Brunch Saturday. Would return.
We had a lovely meal, the food was delicious and our Server Omar was attentive, informative and a great guide for the menu. The restaurant has a lovely intimate vibe and was quiet allowing for conversation. Outstanding!
Knap werk, Mijnheer Vandaele!
Very average mussels for a Belgian restaurant, just weird crab and chicken torpedo starter (can that really be Belgian?) and overpriced Belgian beer. Slow service too. Will not be rushing back and definitely not in my top ten Cap Hill restos.
The food was amazing! Portion sizes were pretty good, I was only able to eat half of my burger, which was cooked perfectly. The Belgian omelette was delicious, perfectly cooked, and packed with seafood. The only negative thing to say is that the hostess was not attentive when we first entered the restaurant. There were about 8 or more people by the door, most had reservations, and the hostess did not acknowledge any of us for at least 5 or more minutes. A couple actually left because they had been waiting there even longer than us without being acknowledged. I would definitely go back as the food was great, but be mindful that it’s super busy and you might not be acknowledged by the hostess right away. I recommend making a reservation.
The food was amazing as always!
This place is our go to for brunch whenever we are in D.C.
Food was great but service was mildly disjointed.
My wife and I were there on Sunday evening and it was QUIET!! Not many others in the dining room. Very relaxing - nice time "grazing" on some Belgian dishes. Enjoyed it all: mussels, gazpacho, Goat Cheese Creme Brulee, waffle dessert with fruit and red currant sorbet, etc.
Belga has good food. However, the Sunday brunch rush seems to have the servers very cranky. Also, ordered a croissant that was stale and had to send it back. I recommend but avoid the Sunday brunch rush and don't expect a pleasant/hospitable host or server.
First time for brunch. The selection was good for everyone in the party. The brunch was fine. I was not a big fan of the hash brown waffle would’ve preferred the fries. All in all a good solid meal.
Consistently great experience
Very good lunch at Belga Cafe. The food was prepared well, the starter & entrees delicious. The Belgium fries were not as good as expected. They were not hot & did not taste as fresh as I have had in the past. All in all a very pleasant experience, the wait staff pleasant and accommodating. Have eaten here often and always enjoy Belga Cafe.
The food was average. Service was average as well. The location is nice in capital Hilton area.
The waffles or not what you would expect at a Belgian place.
