I spent my birthday there. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff. The food was amazing and the drinks were so well done. This is going to be a place I frequent for all occasions.
I had the mussels mariniere, and they were just OK. The other diners I was with felt the food was just fair. The restaurant had the doors open (probably because it was Spring), but it was quite humid in the restaurant. Air conditioning would have helped. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite lively, and we had to talk in a loud voice to hear each other. Overall, I would try this place again- but just know what you are in for in terms of ambience, and food quality.
Inventive menu. The crab stuffed waffle and goat cheese flan appetizers were fantastic, and the mussels marinieres were as good as if sitting in a Belgian brasserie. Superb, well curated beer menu. All in all, a great dining experience.
Everything we ate was deeelicious! The bread was great. My favorite was the Truffle oysters! Outstanding. Can’t wait to go back.
Duck a la Orange was really good off the cherry blossom menu. Service wasnt great but we were a party of 6.
great brunch with family
We were seated promptly, but then asked to move due to a scheduling conflict with a large party. Service was subpar, as coffee was hard to come by, and food delivery was painfully slow.
This was a popular (and therefore busy) place for a weekend brunch, but our waitor was attentive and helpful. We wanted a savory, protein-rich breakfast, so we got the green eggs. The servings were delicious and generous. As an appetizer, we chose the mini liege waffles and we were not disappointed! They were amazing little crispy treats with a sweet and chewy center. Again, the serving was a generous portion, so that made these perfect to share. Our breakfast cocktails were a delight and the perfect choice for a festive meal. We sat indoors, but we noticed that that at their outdoor seating the customers were provided blankets for chilly weather (just like we've seen at European cafes!) It was not inexpensive, but was well worth the cost for a special meal.
I’ve been going to Belga Cafe for Sunday brunch for years, but was so disappointed with service and food during my last visit. Not even close to being worth the high price. Lots of places to have brunch on Capitol Hill, skip this place.
We ordered a bottle of wine. They’ve told us they didn’t have it but had another wine instead, showing us that bottle. They poured our glasses. When coming back to pour what we thought would be the rest of the bottle, they had a different bottle of wine and basically, when pouring, estimated what was left in our bottle. This isn’t how to do business, particularly when it comes to selling bottles of wine.
Also, our bread was not fresh.
Even thought the restaurant was NOT packed, the service was poor and we barely saw our server. When we asked for recommendations from our waiter, he said not to try some of the dishes on the menu. The restaurant is over-priced and I wouldn't go back.
Food quality seems to have gone down for dinner. Might still go for brunch. Frites were cold and tasteless. Nothing really tasted amazing or even great, just average.
Poor server marred our overall good experience
Love the Belga, the food is always delicious, the service is always superior, I don’t live in the area but every time we are in DC we have at least one meal there. We have been enjoying the Belga Cafe since 2007.
Have been enjoying Belga for a few years. Tonight the steak frites were not up to their usual quality. The steak was not good. Inferior flavour and not a good cut.
The service was sub par. No check in after food was served. Slow.
Great food. I had the green eggs and found them bland but the cornmeal waffle was divine! Took about 45 minutes to get our food so that wasn’t good. I would come back and try something different on the menu. Definitely make a reservation as this is a popular spot.
Food was very good. Everyone happy with starters and mains. Great Belgian food. However, service was abysmal. He took 35 minutes to say hello. Wine bottle ordered before food, was presented after appetizers had been on the table for 10 minutes. The server shamed one of my guests (who is being treated for an eating disorder) for only ordering a starter as a main. Shamed her! He was curt, rude, and was clearly disinterested in us because we weren’t spending $1,000. Go here for great food but beware of service
I love the location and the fact that there was an outside dining experience option.
Service was very good, mussels and fries were great, the only not great thing was the veggie burger. It was not very tasty.
Nate’s service was definitely over 5 stars. He help guided me and my guest to an amazing experience. He has a wealth of knowledge which comes out in his great service
Always a great dining experience. However, the very high cost of a meal doesn’t seem to correlate to overall value. This may be a core reason for overall ranking (among all DC restaurants) plummet.
The lobster special was a nice special menu, but the siggars were too much Old Bay, not enough lobster flavor. Usually really like the food, this time was good to very good, but not as good as in the past.
This particular visit to Belga for dinner was occasioned by a "Lobster Week" promotion. As far as I'm concerned, it is impossible to eat too much lobster. So I had lobster "sigaars" as an appetizer (I'd give them maybe a "B", perhaps not the optimal way to showcase lobster, but good anyway), and then a lobster au gratin which was a whole lobster halved, sprinkled with cheese, and broiled. With noodles and a mild tomato-based sauce. Oh my goodness, delicious! My husband had the lobster bisque which he pronounced sublime, and the surf and turf option. No room for dessert, that's for sure! Nice cocktails at this time of year -- a winter Betsy gin and tonic was garnished with apple-clove ice. Excellent wine selection, super service. Love this place. A "neighborhood gem" that is worth the drive from anywhere.
Excellent selection of beers
Classic Belgian fare any foodie would love. Intimate setting, and a great place to take that special someone!
Belgian waffle was good....Belgian omelet was tasty. Had the fries as a side and they were good. Pretty hopping place for Saturday brunch.
My first time here and I was totally impressed! Had checked the menu out online but when we got to the restaurant it was a little different. Our server was so accommodating and worked with the kitchen to make us a dish that was on the old menu that was superbly cooked! Only strange thing was there no music or ambient noise so you could hear other diner's conversations but I won't let that detract from their overall look, feel and delicious menu!
Fast & friendly service, fantastic food! Can't wait to come back and try more menu items. I never knew what a Belgian waffle was supposed to taste like until I ate here.
Wonderful brunch place. Excellent food with a twist. Just love hanging out at Belga!
Belga never disappoints. Great food, great service in a wonderful atmosphere.
We were a large party if 10 - the restaurant was very accommodating and service was fabulous. T
Great place to eat brunch and be with friends and family.
Great dining experience on Valentine's Day. The host and server went out of their ways to make the night feel special. We had the steak frites (filet mignon) which was tender and tasty.
A late first service meant that we needed to wait for our seating on a packed Valentine’s Day, but they gave us a great table about 15 minutes later. Great food (and an excellent beer as well as wine list), good service. Expensive but a good place to go, especially for something (or someone) special.
Belga Cafe continues to provide a high quality dining experience. Good was great, wine choice was perfect and our waiter - Nate - worked hard across a lot of tables. Would still - after going there for more than 15 years - recommend this lively, authentic Belgian eatery.
Took my girlfriend out for dinner on her birthday, on a weeknight. Ordered Diabolique mussels with extra bread, crab stuffed waffles and Brussels sprouts. Washed it all down with a couple of Leffe Brown ales--great night, she loved it!
I waited 10 mins to be acknowledged by the Hostess when I came in and I had to waive her down. The service was not that great I constantly had to waive the waiter down for things like water, syrup, and salt and pepper. The food was not that great I kept it simple by ordering the Brusselse Wafels with scrambled eggs, sausage, and hash browns for brunch. It was not great at all. Also, my waiter never came over to check on us to see if it were. I had to put salt and pepper on my waffle to make it edible and I did not finish the eggs or sausage. Overall the restaurant was very nice but the service and food were not worth it and I would not recommend or go their again for brunch.
Delicious, as always! We have been here several times, and have never had a bad meal.
Food portions were laughable for what you paid. Had a reservation and still waited 20 minutes for a table. Overall would not come back here, wasn’t worth the $ or time.
