Belga has good food. However, the Sunday brunch rush seems to have the servers very cranky. Also, ordered a croissant that was stale and had to send it back. I recommend but avoid the Sunday brunch rush and don't expect a pleasant/hospitable host or server.
First time for brunch. The selection was good for everyone in the party. The brunch was fine. I was not a big fan of the hash brown waffle would’ve preferred the fries. All in all a good solid meal.
Very good lunch at Belga Cafe. The food was prepared well, the starter & entrees delicious. The Belgium fries were not as good as expected. They were not hot & did not taste as fresh as I have had in the past. All in all a very pleasant experience, the wait staff pleasant and accommodating. Have eaten here often and always enjoy Belga Cafe.
The food was average. Service was average as well. The location is nice in capital Hilton area.
The waffles or not what you would expect at a Belgian place.
We have not been in this restaurant for a while and after this visit we would not return. The mussels, their staple were over cooked and flavorless. The quality has deteriorated significantly even though their prices went up. With so many choices in DC we would not miss this restaurant
Took friends from out of town to Silent Drill team and took the opportunity to dine at Belga
We tried this spot on a whim. We were looking for a good place for dessert and fell in love with the dessert menu. However, dinner was great. The food was really good and, thank God, every dish didn’t have the same flavor palate. Dessert was indeed excellent. We even loved the specialty drinks. Sitting outside on Capital Hill was just a bonus Washingtonian experience in celebration of a Washingtonian’s birthday. Definitely recommend going at least once. And, we ran into half a dozen people we knew!
Fun place to enjoy the outdoor seating with friends. Excellent food and service. Menu has a good variety for everyone to enjoy.
Everything was perfect. Already planning our next visit. Loved the cocktails and bartender.
Our server (Turkish man named Barak) was lively and went above and beyond to accommodate requests on meals and get almond milk since they had run out. Food was good but overpriced. Great menu for large group since there are so many options. Should be listed on site or social media that there’s outdoor seating since it’s such a draw but I didn’t know until I got there.
Belga is a great place. We’ve been goung there for years. Food is always delicious. It can get a little crowded and noisy, at times. But the overall experience has always been geeat.
Food was fantastic and the waitress was amazing with my 5 kids! Thank you for an excellent Father’s Day!
Excelente atención, buena comida algo caro
Belga is one of my go-to’s. The food is always delicious, and I love that they start serving brunch so early on the weekends. Only downside, the service was slow this time. This is not normally the case. Been many times and will be back for more!
The food was delicious, and there was a great selection of vegetarian options. We were too full for dessert! And the server was very friendly.
I've always enjoyed Belga. However this time, I ordered the veal meatloaf, which was tasty but the portion size was absurdly small. More like a meatball. Luckily I was not overly hungry, so I lived with it. Suggest increasing the size of the meatloaf and the accompanying mashed potatoes by 50% or more.
Hadn't been to Belga in awhile. Sadly, it's not what I remember. Took awhile for food to arrive, even though there were only three tables with customers. My Trout Toast should have been called Salt Toast. There may have been some fish in there, but I couldn't taste it. My colleague got mussels which were fine, but unremarkable. Even the flagship fries were pedestrian. Service was so-so and borderline combative (my lunch partner only wanted a half order of mussels, but for some reason on Tuesday you can only have full orders). Judging from the lack of patrons, looks like folks are voting with their feet. Hope they can recover.
This is a nice little restaurant in DC. I love the ambiance and decor!
We've eaten here many times before, but the restaurant seems tired, with so-so food and inattentive service. When your specialty is Belgian food and Belgian beer but you steer customers to Stella Artois because the other Belgian beers on your list are not available, it's not a good sign. It feels like management may have lost interest in the place.
try the green eggs and bacon... fabulous!
Generally, I love Belga. I had never been for lunch but was excited by their lunch menu! Unfortunately, the service was fairly poor on this visit. The server asked me to verify my order on the menu (which is fine, I appreciate him wanting to get it right), so I pointed to it, he leaned very close over my shoulder and pointed as well to make sure he understood, and I STILL received the wrong dish. No one came to check on the food, though, so I ended up picking at the wrong dish but enjoying the salad I had ordered (which came correctly). The server was then overly attentive at the end of the meal when he apparently could not wait to get our payment. He kept coming out to see if we had signed the credit card statements and, as soon as we had, he reached between us and grabbed them. So rude as we were still chatting and it had only been a few minutes since we finished our meal. (And we were the ONLY people seated outside (and with very few inside), so they were not in need of our table.)
I will go back because I am still excited about their lunch menu and have had good experiences at Belga. This one was unfortunate, though.
Have been here multiple times. Went today for brunch. Food and drinks were good. Food and drinks came out very fast even though it took awhile to take our order. Seemed to be short staffed on this particular day. Food and drinks were good and would go back.
Food was really not great, for being a place that specializes in waffles they were soggy and lacked flavor. The food was overpriced there weren't even any sides with a $15 waffle, a friend got a mimosa that cost $9 and the glass was only half full. It also took our waiter over 30 minutes to get us checked out and he charged my card 3x. It was a huge fiasco to split an 8 person bill 3 ways when we had told him exactly what to put on each card.
Great place, with great food. Will definitely be back again!
Delicious food, small restaurant.
Restaurant was dirty with a horrific smell, service was unresponsive and subpar, many menu items were sold out, and some food items had a poor taste (too old?). Belga is not what it used to be.
Food was largely great. French onion soup and crab waffle were both superb. Mussels were dodgy. Green asparagus dish had no egg as advertised but was none the worse for it.
Service started well but got rapidly very poor. We were largely ignored once our food had been delivered which was a shame because we wanted more drinks, which would potentially have led to dessert. Instead after waiting forever for some level of attention we got the check and went elsewhere.
Check had a sparkling water that we didn't order. Had to speak with two separate wait staff to get it grumpily removed; even then they insisted we had ordered it but not received it. Nope nope nope.
The farm cornbread waffle is AMAZING! Kind of pricey but otherwise awesome experience.
Food was cold and bland. not a good value for what you receive.
The hostess was lacking in demeanor *( this past Sunday morning) . Slow down when you ask customers a question... do not hover over the guests, body language should be straight up and back at least two feet.
We had a large (15+) party celebrating two birthdays on a Saturday brunch. Despite being the bane of a server's existence, they dealt with our large party well. Food was very good as were drinks. No bottomless option but the quality of the drinks they did offer made it so worth it. BW waffles were the best! One thing to note: with large parties they only accept 3 cards (understandable) so if plan accordingly!
Top notch! Belga never disappoints! The mussels are cooked to perfection! The beer list is extensive and exquisite! Get there early when brunching as they do tend to run out of favorites, service is excellent!
Great place to eat Belgian food and drink Belgian beer!
The size of their beer selection has gone down though compared to 1-2 years ago, however, they still carry excellent Belgian beers. Very nice, though quite pricey.
Food was delicious.
The food was delicious, but you do not get much for the price. My husband and I both ordered waffles and shared some bacon, but we both left hungry after spending $70. That was disappointing.
Disclaimer: I know it was Mother's Day & I know restaurants are busy...but.
First of all: I love Belga Cafe--it can be an amazing place w/great wines the noise was off the chain, they rushed us to our table and cleared in mid bite--I get turnover, but DANG. The list: 1) our orders were not correct; 2) when I ordered extra fries for the table the waiter said that fries came w/the meals--I know, I would like extra for my ginormous teenage boys! 3) We didn't get the little waffle we ordered; 4) the burgers didn't have what the boys asked for on them; 5) there was no coffee (or so I was told) and then a cup magically showed up, but it was filthy--the cup/not the coffee and 6) my prosecco was flat--I couldn't even find a waiter to tell--and the bus people said they would send the waiter over...I gave up. Overall, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Luckily, they were also rushing us out, taking plates before people were finished. Its such a shame b/c I really loved that place. Maybe I'll try again during less busy times.
Worst experience I could have envisioned, particularly when celebrating a special occasion (Mother's Day). We were forced to sit in the upstairs, outside area, which was covered by a makeshift tent. It was cold, windy, and we made our way through two dishwashing areas in order to get there. When we talked to the Executive Chef, his excuse was that, "he couldn't control the weather." I understand that, but even if it was a sunny, warm day, the area we sat in would still be sub-par. Here's an idea, preserve your restaurant's reputation and simply don't have guests sit in the upstairs bar area, unless they request to. The ultimate slap in the face was that we had our infant child with us, and they said we must sit in the upstairs area because we had a child with us. So, my wife was discriminated against on Mother's Day for being a mother. It's unfortunate because Belga Cafe was one of favorite spots for brunch. We won't be returning.
