I came for Restaurant Week and really enjoyed it! It was really busy, but the service was excellent. I had the falafel waffle, squash, and dame blanche. All were delicious and had a lot of flavor!
Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Belga Cafe. The food was delicious and served well. We had the sunny window table. We happened to be there during Restaurant Week so there was an additional bonus of that nice prix fixe menu. I will definitely continue to take friends there.
Server had too many tables, but food was SO good. Bloody Mary was so great!
Always a great experience!
Fantastic food, especially the mussels. Ambiance is quaint and feels local like only you know of the place.
Excellent, classic Belgian fare, especially the mussels (the Diabolique is my favorite) and steak frites. The Belgian beer selection is phenomenal.
We went to Belga for Christmas Eve dinner. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying and having a wonderful time. We were seated timely. The service and food were great. The chef/owner greeted and welcomed us. It was a wonderful experience.
Anniversary dinner - very nice; special menu was great; the sole was superb.
We really enjoyed our evening at Belga Cafe. The waiter was attentive and polite and the food was very good. My husband had the duck special and I had classic Belgian muscles which tasted just like the ones I had in Brugge. We sat near the window on a very chilly evening and the restaurant provided a fleece blanket to put over my legs - very nice tough! The restaurant was cozy, decorated for the season and despite being completely full, the noise level was quite reasonable. A man whom I presume was the owner, warmly greeted many of the patrons by name. Belga Cafe clearly has a very loyal customer base. We will definitely be back.
A great dining experience. Will be back. The bread is fresh, beer menu extensive, and food cooked to order.
We decided to visit Belga Cafe at an off-time to ensure we could get local parking (always a nightmare) and seated during a very busy time of year. When we arrived at mid afternoon, there were mostly empty seats and we were seated next to the only occupied table where a very loud conversation was underway. Of course we went there for the mussels, but were surprised to find that they no longer had our favorite "Rodenberg beer mussels", as they no longer carry that specialty beer. We ordered the "classic" mussels and repeated twice that we wanted the smaller "lunch" size pots. Our order arrived and the mussels were tasty, but smaller that usual. When we received our bill we noticed that we had been charged for the larger dinner-size mussels. The server quickly corrected it, but mentioned that we had indeed been given the larger dinner portion, which didn't seem all that large. Overall this was our worst experience there and now we will consider other venues when we're looking for mussels to enjoy.
old, burnt frites ruined the experience
Terrific Belgian food and service, as always!
Wonderful Capitol Hill bistro, great Belgian food, warm, attentive service--a winner!
Outstanding in every way, wonderful holiday atmosphere. Will go back soon.
Pleasant evening for pre theater. Lovely meal of moules scallops duck and rabbit. Excellent beer selection. All elements worked
Went for brunch; our waiter was incredibly attentive. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The hostesses were very friendly and it was a chilly windy day so they had cozy red flannel wraps draped on the chair backs for diners. We ordered eggs benedict and the eggs were well done but the waiter jumped right on it and had them make new meals--perfect the second time around. Coffee and drinks were delicious as well. Loved it!
As always, an exceptional experience at Belga, with perfect beer and wine pairings with the delicious food. It's our GO TO restaurant on Capitol Hill.
Had a wonderful meal and great service. Highly recommend Belga Cafe.
Cold bad food fake Belgian food too expensive for that quality of the food. Very cold inside you need a coat
Great dinner - staff was excellent - even dealt with a homeless person with calm and dignity. Your folks made the evening a special time and we thank you.
- Very rushed waiters and only focused on turning the tables too quickly.
- Fresh juices are not what they are advertised for in the menu - I was told to get a fresh carrot juice and got a clearly not fresh juice-like beverage instead, which I returned immediately. No apology offered.
- We were asked to leave shortly after an hour since the reservation, because they were very rushed to turn the table around.
- It was very noisy already at 10:13am.
Great and excellent food. The staff always welcoming and professional. Staff make you feel welcome and special.
Knowledgeable staff helped first timers understand the array of choices and when asked questions they were unsure of the answer they checked with those that did know. All four of us were highly satisfied with out drink and food choices. All of us were delighted with the quality of noise level.
The hostess served two other spoken before me and when we were finally served it was to a table way in the back. I will not be returning
The food was excellent. The service was outstanding. We could easily get a reservation for breakfast. It was open at 9a.m. for brunch. The place across the street had a 90 wait, and doesn't take reservations.
Excellenr breakfast. Never had as tasty green eggs and brioche with egg and truffel cheese was great too. Highly recommend.
Tuna tartare was very bad.
Kaaskroketten not tasting well.
Crème brûlée disgusting. Separated with large pieces in.
If you want to know how food is made in Europe in general, and in Belgium or France in particular, this is the place to eat. And fortunately the staff know their job, as it should be done in Europe. But friendlier :) !
Don't forget to taste the special beers and to look at the extended wine list.
Belga was unable to serve the drinks we ordered until halfway through the meal. They served the wrong dish twice and overcooked the steak on half the plates. The server didn’t even acknowledge the issue but tried to blame the kitchen before setting down the check.
I’ve enjoyed Belga Cafe for years - a great Barracks Row restaurant with excellent food and drinks.
We had an early dinner here before one of the World Series games, and it was a great break from the usual bar food right next to the ballpark. Specialty, of course, is Belgian food, and we ordered a parsnip and pear soup, a beet salad, Belgian fries, and a crab-stuffed waffle, more or less shared, nice to have the different tastes. We had an ice cream dessert to share with Belgian chocolate sauce, delicious. I’d like to go back to try more things at this low-key place.
Nice breakfast brunch spot. A bit too expensive for the portion size and food. Service was quick and good but felt some tension and irritation with the server and touch of snootiness. Maybe that was part of them trying to be authentic French Belgian.
As usual food and service very good. Only issue was noise level which was because we were near kitchen nut looking forward to return.
I thought it was expensive for Belgian Wafles.
We were not provided waters or the drinks we ordered for over thirty minutes. I provided an update on the reservation the day before but perhaps the staff was confused and thought we still had people coming that we were waiting on? So twenty minutes in I went to eat them know we were not waiting for anyone else and needed to be seen. Still weren’t seen for another fifteen.
