Although making a reservation, we still had to wait, then the host gave our table to another. The service was poor, but maybe he was new and tried. The breakfast english muffin was a soggy mess and while the waiter acknowledged that the food arrived NOT as I had asked with the muffin on the side, he failed to ask me if I wanted a replacement muffin. It finally arrived, with no butter and no offer of butter. My dining partner had to ask for a coffee refill twice. The waiter was barely seen, never asked if all was OK or if we needed anything else. Ever.

This was our first visit to a highly recommended restaurant and we were not disappointed. We were immediately seated upon arrival (5 minutes ahead of reservation) and water was served immediately and our server arrived very shortly thereafter. He was very knowledgeable and delivered our appetizer, entre and desert in the proper order with no rush whatsoever. We are mussel lovers and they have the best we have ever had anywhere. Our entries were very good as well with one minor exception. One entre with mussels also had crab legs which were tasteless and appeared to have been previously frozen. We mentioned this to our server but no followup ensued....we were a bit disappointed. Also, on this evening there was a party of 20 seated in the front at two long tables next to us and it was a bit much....
All said, this is an excellent place and we will return many times...

Belga is good, but not better. It used to be better, but its menu has shrunk. Some really good dishes have disappeared. There are big holes in its beer menu, beers listed but not available, which used to be one of its outstanding features.

This was our first visit to Belga Café. Our experience matched most of the reviews. The menu is creative, with many Belgian specialties. We started off with escargots and steak tartare, which were excellent, and chose duck breast and rabbit stoofpot for entrées, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top it off. The rabbit was difficult to get off the bone, but otherwise the food was well prepared and attractively served. The choice of drinks is overwhelming; we bypassed the beer listings and opted for a bottle of red Sancerre, which went well with our entrées and was reasonably priced. The staff was courteous and very helpful. The noise level was rather high.

There were three table and a few people at the bar, but we felt completely ignored. It was as if the server's annoyance to be working increased each of the three times he came to our table over the course of 2 hours. I typically really enjoy Belga, and, had it not been for my awesome dinner companion, this meal would have been a total downer.

Great service from Arsalan. Terrific tuna tartare appetizer. Open table helped arrange birthday celebratory cake and candle. Been going there for 10 years. It has kept the quality.

Had a reservation for 12:30. We walked in and the place was packed. Manager welcomed us and showed us to our waiting table. Ordered 3 different types of foods.. waffle, burger, and egg dish. All three were delicious and cooked to order. Highly recommend

Love Belga Café. Love the food. Love that they open at 0900 on a Sunday morning! Great choices and always have a tough time making a decision on what to get. Husband had the ham and swiss omelet. I had the pulled pork on corn waffle. Think I would ask for a regular waffle next time (corn waffle a bit dry) and a few roasted potatoes on the side would have set it off - even though I love the avocado garnish. I have no complaints at all except for loud 80's rock music at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Could we start out slow with something calming and work up to Journey and Kansas? Just didn't jibe with the upscale Belgian cuisine but, particularly, so early in the morning.

I must admit to being rather single-minded when it comes to Belga Care: Mussels and Frites!
My wife was more adventurous than I, choosing the hangar steak. Both were excellent...maintaining the consistently high standards.

The highlight of our evening was when our server was able to produce a bottle of Kasteel Rouge that we've been unable to find anywhere else and had believed it to be discontinued!

My wife wants to go back for another Belga 2.0 cocktail! I'm addition, we loved the endive salad and the seared salmon special. Our server was extremely nice and helpful, and we will be back next time we're going to a show in Eastern Market. :)

The restaurant is TOO NOISY which undercuts the wonderful food and great location we feel you simply must install some acoustic features to reduce sound volume. Ceiling? Floor? Walls? I am sure there is something that could reduce the sound level a few decibels. It’s a shame because otherwise the restaurant is charming ....

When ever we make it to Washington DC we always make dinner at the Belga Cafe a priority. We have been visiting for about 10 years. This visit did not let us down, delicious as usual. Which ever items we select off the menu we have never been let down. Our favorite are the mussels, we have tried all the options. The wait staff is always top notch. Looking forward to our next visit.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The best part was the sourdough bread and the frites served with dinner. I will never go back. Unfriendly service, a mayo-based overdressed salad (supposedly soy-ginger) so-so beef tartar, served with a different overdressed mushy salad. The mussels were okay. The frites were tasty. To top it off, the waiter chased after us outside to the sidewalk because he couldn’t find the signed copy of the credit card. He embarrassed me. It was sitting on the table. So much for a special birthday dinner.

Very disappointed. This used to be a top-notch restaurant, with amazing food and service 6-7 years ago. We told them it was my birthday - there was no celebration! The napkins had stains and holes in the them and the food was average. Service was impersonal. So sad that this restaurant, which used to be my go-to restaurant in DC, has dropped down to mediocrity.

Wednesday night 10/18, is seems that they were short staffd, with the bartender having to fill in as the Maitre D. It didn’t affect the ambiance or the food.

I like their food but sometimes the service is a little slow - and the portions are on the small side for some dishes. They have a cute ambiance to evoke a Belgian vibe but it clashes starkly with their R&B/pop/hip hop music- doesn’t really mesh and is not what I want to listen to while eating fancy food.

It was just ok. The menu is fine, but the food is just ok and the portions are small. The service was average, even though we were literally the only people in the restaurant. There are plenty of great places on Barracks Row, no need to waste time here.

Disappointing experience; for the number of wait staff running around the service was indifferent at best. The soups watery and the mussels, a staple, were too small and chewy to have been top quality. I’ve experienced a slow decline in Belga over the past couple of years and won’t be returning.

I had my favorite endive salad but it was not prepared the way it was done in the past. Important ingredients like caramelized pecans or walnuts were missing. In addition, very little cheese and apple were in the salad. The waiter was nice and waived the charge for the salad. I had a duck dish for entree which was good but not great.

Belga Cafe consistently delivers on the classic Belgian dishes like mussels, fries, and a terrific beer list, but also truffle Mac and cheese, tuna tartare, and many others. Great service.

I wanted a nice brunch spot for my boyfriend and I while he was in town. After an overwhelming amount of searches I just picked Belga and made reservations. I could not be more pleased with my choice. The atmosphere inside was busy but refined, I loved the intimate tables and the decor with the option to dine outside.

The food though, incomparable. I will be returning here again and again. The waffles were delicious, wholly unexpected for a place I just "settled" on after several google searches. The food was worth the price and they even accommodated our request for adding cheese to our scrambled eggs. Everything was just top notch and our kind waiter made it all the more enjoyable.

usual great ambience, a little noisy but it was Sat night, and food was excellent. But my gosh it took for blooming ever for someone to notice that we were sitting there like 2 bumps on a log dying of thirst and ready to order. Belga is a place we eat at regularly, lunch and dinner and I have never seen it this terribly understaffed before. Otherwise everything was very good as usual.
thanks
