I have lived in the Bay Area for 25 years and never new about Belden Place! What a find - Belden Taverna was wonderful - atmosphere, service, food - it was all outstanding. We will definitely be back!
I've been to Belden Taverna several times now - for one special occasion or another. This is a city favorite. Atmosphere is great, staff is excellent, and everyone always makes sure your group is comfortable and always has what you need or want. Thumbs up for Taverna!
Cute place right in an alley full of restaurants. However, we were seated outside and there were way too many tables and chairs crammed up against each other--the waiter couldn't even get to the table behind us and had to ask people from our table to ask them if they were done with their food, hand that table their check, etc. Ruined the experience. The food was fine.
Really a delightful meal. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful and led us down a decicious and tasty path. Wonderful wines, tasty mac & cheese, fresh seafood, and a wonderful spinach ravioli with butter, sage and tomato sauce. I will certainly go back!
Dinner for 15, last minute reservation. The guys loved it! They were seated outside and said it was a fun atmosphere, great food and outstanding service. Definitely would book again.
It was overpriced but good atmosphere.
Belden Taverna was pretty good. I was expecting to be subjected to touristy prices and conditions but was pretty surprised by the prices, location and wait help. The food was really good and the service was fine. It was early and the place was not crowded. The mussels that we ate were wonderful. The fish and chips were ok. The bread pudding desert was to die for! Overall we had a good experience and would recommend to all../
Our food was excellent; however the service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter seemed bothered to have to serve our table for two as he had a much larger table to tend to outside. Cumulatively, he didn't spend more than 60 seconds with us. He never even introduced himself, so I can't tell you his name. He just asked for our order in a hurried manner then sprinted off like he was the busiest waiter in SF. We were not offered fresh pepper for our salads (the table next to us was). We sat staring at our food for several minutes before someone (not our waiter) realized we didn't have knives. We weren't even thanked when our check was delivered. I would hope that this was an isolated instance, but I get the feeling it was not.
Great place for a business lunch. Excellent service and good food.
we sat outside; cozy, intimate under night sky; felt far away from the busy city. butter lettuce salad fresh and yummy! grilled salmon tasted fresh from ocean! beef stroganoff to die for. excellent, reasonably priced wine list. service excellent and unobtrusive. our second time; will return again and again. easy walk from union square area.
I enjoyed a deliciouos meal with a friend from out of town. The food was great as well as the service. We sat and talked and were not rushed out of the restuarant.I would highly recommend.
The food was surprisingly good. The prices were very reasonable, especially for Belden Place. Don't let yourself get too full. The desserts are worth the extra calories, especially the warm chocolate cake.
First time to restaurant although been on Benden Place before. Were able to sit outside eventhough cool, they had heaters so were were comfortable. Lots of energy and people out enjoying themselves. Menu and wine list reasonable. Only real complaint was service a little slow. I had heirloom tomato salad & tomatoes not quite ripe but my beef short rib was really well done, tender & flavorful and good sized portion. Husband enjoyed oysters, his seasonal salad with figs, goat cheese and proscuitto as well as his entree of sliders. Whole alley got busier as evening progressed. Overall a fun and enjoyable time. Would return. Destination would be good for lunch as well.
Except for the Bruschetta, the food was good. They took the Bruschetta off the bill and comped a drink and desert.
Great variety on menu. Party of 3 and all were pleased with food and service.
Not bad. Service was not very good and food was fine.
Unlike other restaurants in the immediate area, this one does not offer alfresco dining, though there are large windows overlooking Belden Alley. The food is good, but not really memorable. The lamb kebobs use very good meat, the Greek salad had way too much green pepper, but the kitchen was accomodating in dividing some dishes for us. I probably won't return, as there are better Greek restaurants around.
A bit too loud for a business lunch. However, the food and service were good.
Great food. I didn't realize I would be seated outdoors and it was a bit chilly that night. The heating lamps did help but not that much. Wish I had the choice.
They don't have many tables inside. My friend and I sat at a small table right next to the door. The cold air kept coming in from the door because they kept it open so they could serve the people at the outside seatings easily. Since it was really getting cold, I asked the waiter to close it and he did. However other waiters kept it open... I was being annoyed during the meal. I don't think I will go back to this place again.
It was really great. The food was very enjoyable and the staff was lively and attenvite. , They made the evening fun. Being outside, we didn't have to be concerned about noise.
We had a lovely meal. It was early in the evening, so it was quiet. We had soup, salad, and dessert. All were perfect.
We were a table of four rambunctious friends. Food was delicious, ambience great, and we were able to bring our two small dogs.
lovely restaurant, good service and a wonderful location, but I thought the food just didn't live up to the billing. Very enjoyable surroundings, but I wouldn't go back for food.
This was my second dinner Belden Taverna and it was excellent.
I like Belden Alley...Its very european. I like Belden Taverna for the bouillibase....it is always delicious. All their food is very good. The butter lettuce salad with apples, blue cheese and poppy seed dressing is very good too. The Taverna is one of my favorite spots! I love to bring my out-of-town guests here Thank you!
Our dinner was flavorful and delicious and the service was great!
Except for the service being slow, we enjoyed our dinner at Taverna. The short ribs were very flavorful. The bouillabaisse was perfect. The molten lava chocolate cake was the delightful end to the meal.
Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner I had with my team at Belden Taverna. The waitstaff was warm and friendly. Menu was unique and the food was prepared beautifully.
At first I thought the menu was a little odd -- perhaps disjointed is a good word. But any doubts about the place were put to the rest when the food arrived. Very consistent from start to finish. Well done food. Enjoyed the lobster bisque, the mushroom risotto and the butter fish. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Good value for the price, too! Gives me more to love about Belden Alley!!!
A truly unmemorable experience. I am in general not a huge fan of the restaurants on Belden Lane. Brindisi and B44 are fair at best, and same for Taverna. It was a bummer to see so little traffic on the lane on a Wednesday night. My friend and I were literally the only people in Taverna. The service was fine, I mostly felt bad for the waiter who was clearly trying to create some atmosphere but couldn't. The salad and rissotto were bland and typical. I doubt I will return.
A delightful little Taverna with excellent food and very friendly and helpful waitstaff! I'm going back!
Poor overwork waitress did not get much help from the kitchen.
Fit our needs perfectly. Good food, fun location, convenient to BART.
Tookk a large group from work and it was perfect. Good food, good ambiance, good wine list. Would try again.
Excellent Valentine's Day dinner.
We went for a Valentine's Day Dinner. We sat upstairs and could actually hold a conversation. (which is rare these days) The food was fantastic and the service was efficient but not intrusive. It was a very pleasant evening!
This was the second time we have visited here. We raved to friends about it, took them there, and was a little disappointed. The food was fair to good, however my rib eye was luke warm and not cooked medium-rare as asked. Hopefully it was just an off night for BT and the next time we go, if we go, will be better.
The beet salad appetizer was exceptional
Very good Lemon Drop. Excellent boullibaise! Great happy hour prices.
