For bistro style burgers, steak, and meat with a mission, Belcampo in Santa Monica is a great option.
Great Steaks, beautiful dining room, great bar. I ordered the chopped salad, and New York Steak, which were both great.
This was our first visit to Bel Campo. We expected to be wowed by the food, the food was very average. The cost for two of us, without drinks or wine, was roughly $150. I expected a wonderful cut of meat, cooked perfectly and flavored exceptionally well. The meat wasn’t seasoned at all, a good cut of meat should be flavorful on its own, but a bit of seasoning is quite necessary to wow the palette. The chopped salad was very good, perfectly dressed, with a great combination of veggies, fruit and cheese. The salad set the mood for the meal. Sadly the rest of the meal didn’t live up to the excellence of the salad. The broccolini was super seasoned, very spicy and was not edible unless you like food spiced to burn your mouth. The fries were tiny little fries, almost like they were the end of a batch and so were tiny. Also unseasoned, fries do need salt, preferably added while the potatoes are hot and ready to hang onto some of the salt crystals.
Overall we were disappointed in our meal. Maybe next time we’ll just buy meat and cook it at home, then it will be seasoned to our liking.
Our server is very courteous and professional, very pleasant to talk to.
She helped us selecting the food, her recommendation is right on the spot.
She kept checking if everything is allright.
I was excpecting more steak choices, the chinese pear salads is excellent, the leaf is crunchy and very fresh. Portion is generous.
My pork chop was mostly fat and center tough. The rest of the meals were I would give a B. Over priced and non creative food.
Will not return. Service was especially slow given there were only a few tables occupied and we arrived when they opened. Poorly managed.
The food is good, but a little pricey for lunch. I liked my burger more than my friend’s steak frites. Their french fries were a little subpar, but the homemade ketchup was a nice touch. Belcampo might have the better burger, but Umami Burger definitely has the better fries. It felt like they rested the burger and steak frites too long as my first bite was a little on the cold side. The service was not as attentive as I had hoped and it was not all all busy for a Saturday lunch service. I ran out of water and drank from my friend’s water glass. Despite these glitches, I’d be willing to come back to try their dinner menu.
Celebrated my birthday with close friends had an amazing time!!! Thank u much belcampo!!! I will be back soon!!!
I definitely recommend Bel Campo. I’ve been here several times, but this was the best! I now know what to order: Wings, Burger, Shepherds Pie! Thursday is half price wines by the bottle (great deal). It’s reasonably priced for Santa Monica (which means pricey), but excellent quality. Enjoy!
Meat is tough. Sides are tasty though.
We were quite excited to give Belcampo at try. The atmosphere was nice and the waitress very pleasant as well. The drink service from the bar was on the slow side. We started with the chopped salad which was fairly good, and the Ramen Deviled Eggs which were judged atrocious by both of us. The burger was unremarkable, the fries lukewarm and bland at best. It was probably the first time that I had seen a burger go half unfinished on my wife's plate. The fish of the night was Ling Cod. It was fine, but again unremarkable seasoning and the portion was sooooo tiny. They claimed it was 4oz. when I pointed the size out to the waitress, but I'd be very surprised if it was over 3oz. That would be fine for an appetizer portion, but as an entree, it was quite underwhelming. After the manager came over and defended the tiny portion size and extolled the quality , he kindly had another portion sent to the table without charge. Overall the place is pleasant and pricey, but unless they step their game up a bit......... They could learn a few lessons from some of the other quality dinner houses in Los Angeles. We will wait a while for them to hopefully get their ship on course and possible give them another try.
We always enjoy Bel Campo. Good food, nice people.
A hidden gem!
Great spot, the food was really good (surprisingly, a butcher knows how to make a salad!!) and when they say dinner for two...it can really feed three, I still had the meat sweats the next day (got the dinner for two with the NY steak, potatoes au gratin and broccoli). We also got the ice cream sundae, it hard a chocolate hard shell, it was fantastic!
Had been here before and had enjoyed food and atmosphere. however, this time the service was very slow and food was fair to poor. It took at least 20 minutes for our waiter to bring us our drinks. The steak frites was very average. The quality of the meat was just ok and the french fries were not seasoned and quite boring. The brussels sprouts were covered in some sticky sauce and the burger was just average. Nothing was very interesting about the presentation or the food and the service was just average. Probably would not go back
The wine and roasted cauliflower dish were outstanding, the lamb steak tartare a bit bland and overwhelmed by too many veggies on top that seemed incongruous. Delicious desserts, especially the goat cheesecake. Excellent ambience and low noise level.
Excellent service! Excellent hamburger, so you get what you pay for, as in it's expensive but a special quality treat! Brussels sprouts need much less oil and sugar. Fries need much less salt. Will return and ask for a salad side instead next time.
Really appreciated the great service. And the food was excellent as well!
Went there for a birthday. Told them and put it on my reservation. Nothing special done. We had the steak dinner for two, asked for it medium rare... brought it rare. Asked them to cook more, brought it back medium. Brought wrong cocktail once, asked for right one, brought back proper one but only half full. Had been there a half dozen times before and all was good, but this time it was very poor.
One of the tastiest and juiciest pork chops we’ve ever had. We also love the Shepard’s pie with delicious bread and salad.
Food here is fantastic
The food was so yummy and it feels so good to know that the sourcing is impeccable! Everything was 1st class! One of our favorite if not THE favorite place!
We had a lovely meal. We could hear each other when talking, a plus for me. It is a bit on the expensive side, even with a voucher. The wait staff is great.
Wonderful service and beyond excellent meats
Third time is not the charm. We’ve eaten here two other times and enjoyed our food.
Not this time. The filet is off the menu. The burger was raw, not medium. So she takes it back.
20 minutes later my well done burger arrives sans the arugula. Fries on all four plates were
Lukewarm. The other meat dishes were chewy and had too much sauce
Def my going back
Always a pleasurable experience at this local eatery. Fantastic cuisine and staff!
Steak was phenomenal- perfectly cooked and seasoned. Attentive service from knowledgeable staff . We will be back!
Delicious food and nice presentation. Service is terrific, from the host stand through the entire wait staff.
Steaks? The worst cut of meat I've had in years...
Not quite sure what happened but the food was almost inedible .
The quality of the meat is outstanding, but the rest of the food on our plates was average. I was pleased they offered a gluten-free bun for my burger!
Beef dishes are superb. Chicken wings and mussels as shared starters were fabulous. Will be back!
Very disappointed. The steaks ($50+), which they are known for, first were delivered cold. They sent us back 3 new steaks, all were tough and not very good. Enjoyed the ambiance and the appetizers, but the steaks were the non-negotiable for me to come back. Stick with the Hillstones, Banderas, and Baltaires, and don't risk it on this $56 dollar NY Strip.
Service and food were outstanding. Very enjoyable.
It had been a pretty brutal week or two, and we needed a dinner that didn't so closely resemble the lunch-ier dinners we've been downing. Belcampo was conveniently located and had seating so we grabbed a reservation and went for our first time. Its a bit confusing to find the entrance but the door opens into a surprisingly large, warmly-lit space. Shortly after sitting, our server - Anthony - stopped by with a warm greeting and took a moment to talk us thru the cocktail specials. No high pressure, just friendly suggestions. After bringing the drinks and learning of our "rookie" status, he patiently and enthusiastically walked us thru the menu. His descriptions were vivid and recommendations appealing, so we took him up on his suggestions. And glad we did - the food was perfect. But as good as the food was, it was Anthony's service that made the evening so pleasant. Thank you Belcampo for that.
The decor and ambience is very nice. The cocktail selection is huge and very good. Our service was leisurely- we got our drinks very quickly but then waited a long time to order. Once we did, our food came out at a nice pace. The appetizers were delicious and the quality of the steaks were great!
The steak was chewy & lacked flavor
Bel Campo has consistently delicious food, mostly sourced from their own farm in Southern Oregon. The meat, chicken, lamb, and sides are all deliciously prepared and the service is always very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is wonderful, and cocktails are inventive. My one complaint is with the choices of wines by the glass. My husband and I are consistently disappointed by the selections of wines by the glass. I am not sure whether the bottles are kept open too long, or they are not taking advantage of the many California wines available from more boutique wineries that we love at other restaurants in the area.
It was perfect for a special dinner.
Belcampo specializes in clean meat. Not surprisingly, the preparations are traditional, but very good.
