What Insiders Are Saying
For bistro style burgers, steak, and meat with a mission, Belcampo in Santa Monica is a great option.
We had filet steak and it was very good. The restaurant had a good atmosphere and good service without being over formal.
This restaurant has been redecorated and has more tables but no intimacy. My wife's salad was just fair and my hamburger was good. The French Fries were excellent. This is an ok p[lace for a neighborhood meal
The service was so bad it ruined the experience.
We had a 6:30pm reservation on a Saturday but they were already out of two items; Rack of Lamb and Hunter burger. I had planned on ordering the lamb but ordered the chicken. It was not seasoned well and I did not enjoy it. My husband had the Steak Frites and he was happy. I was happy with the bacon Caesar salad and my husband enjoyed the chopped salad.
So although I was disappointed I would try it again and if they were out of my choice I would try selecting a cut of meat from the butcher shop. That probably would have been a better choice.
We visit Belcampo on 3rd st at least once a week and we were super excited to visit their “real” restaurant in Santa Monica. This was such a disappointing experience. We were 6 people, we ordered 5 medium rare burgers and all of them came dry and over cooked, the fries were also burned and totally dry and not tasty. We also ordered 3 salads (2 of them were good, one -the Thai salad- was too spicy and we really didn’t enjoy it). We didn’t care for the pickles too, although we liked the idea of pickled grapes it was all too spicy.
The restaurant is gorgeous and I really wish the food was better. We will not be dining there again.
The food was good but I ordered my $52 rib eye medium rare and it arrived medium to medium well. It tasted dry. I should have returned it but I was too hungry so I ate it anyway.
This is a meat lovers paradise. We enjoyed the ribeye steak, cooked to our order with a creamy potato side and decadent bacon added to the broccolini. An impressive wine list will fit any size wallet. Don't miss the chocolate dessert pudding.
Lunch is really ideal there for a large group because it is not that busy at lunchtime. Dinner is a completely different story. I arranged for a business lunch for 6 and fortunately they set up a table for 8 because someone showed up unannounced. I really enjoyed my lamb burger. This time I had it with the salad because they give you an enormous amount of tasty fries that are just too tempting. My colleague ordered the steak frites and it was so large he took half of it home. There are are salads and sandwiches for lunch. Sometimes I just stop in and get a cup of Bone Broth in the front meat market.
Great food. Great meats. Great sauces. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
This is the second time I was here. I was disappointed with the menu selection and the ambiance. They changed the menu quite a bit since we visited 8 months ago and they changed the entrance to the restaurant. It actually smelled a little too much like a butcher shop for my taste.
Everything was amazing and nice to see Chef Caleb again.
Lovely local place and our appetizers were very good - fried broccolini, lamb stew and pickled vegetables. My entree was less impressive steak frites - the steak was covered in sauce and sliced so not at all a traditional presentation. It was fine but certainly not memorable.
The chicken was a little burnt and the meal was mediocre. It’s expensive pricing for a tiny amount of the meat you order, compensated with an overload of fries. 80% of the plate is filled by fries.
Awesome. Everything was great!
Wonderful food...the best beef and burger in SantaMonica.,
Love the new decor. Very bright and cheerful. The service is always great! Food is hit or miss but I must say the burgers are always the best.
Go for drinks, charcuterie and dessert...skip the mains. This has been my experience on 4 separate occasions.
Super tasty, very interesting experience with all grass fed animals. Best french fries I have ever eaten. Some other things were good but not over-the-top. Would definitely recommend but just shy of five stars
We were treated so well. Great food. Outstanding and varied wine list. Perfect night.
Ever since the restaurant reopened, the menu is limited and the food isn’t as good as it was on the old menu.
They changed the menu when they renovated the restaurant. The new menu is trying to hard to be chic. Go back to the old menu and stop trying to be something new - the old BelCampo’s was great. The new menu is awful.
Excellent beef. Excellent fries and broccolini side. Dressing on side salad was excessive and bitter. Service was uneven; staff were very solicitous, but only when they noticed you. Still, world-class beef is worth the visit.
Unfortunately, the setting was very nice and the welcome was friendly, then it all went down from there.
Our dinner was outstanding. We particularly want to recognize your server, Alicia, who contributed so much to our overall dining experience. She's a gem.
Your bar staff is also extremely welcoming.
We had an amazing dinner tonight. The food we ordered from the Dine LA menu was superb! Our waiter was friendly and a attentive. The restaurant decor was gorgeous! Can’t wait to go back again.
DineLA menu was a good deal. The steak frites, and lamb burger were tasty. Son had the 100-day dry aged burger. He liked it but not my taste. Drinks are good and pretty!
Food and service were fantastic. Great craft cocktails as well!
Came for the Dine LA dinner menu (been meaning to try Belcampo's food as I live nearby), but was really disappointed at the food. The braised pork was incredibly oversalted, and the steak was pretty chewy, not as I would have expected of the meat quality they boast. Heard somewhere the burger is good, might consider giving them another chance at lunchtime...
Excellent food and drink, friendly and relaxed and competent service, pleasant high-ceiling room with moderate noise.
We really enjoyed our server and the ambience. Our only disappointment is the menu is limited. We had fish last time but only fish and chips were available.
The food was delicious, we had a 7 course flight including dumplings, hamachi, lobster roll, crab fried rice, hangar steak, dan dan noodles, and a dessert.
Would definitely recommend, steak was cooked perfectly, all the menu items were appetizing and beautifully presented.
What a great find! Since the renovation, it appears that the restaurant has transformed into a perfect, upscale, quality restaurant. Food was very very good, as were the cocktails. Cocktails were interesting with uses of spices, fruits, etc. in a good way!! I highly recommend.
Based on comments predating the renovation, I say they figured it out and made investments in the right areas.
We went specifically for the Belcampo burger and fries. It was delicious! The restaurant was recently renovated and was very nice. Service was very good also.
I had been to Belcampo before and while the food was good, I was in no hurry to return, mostly because of the space. It was dark and had the feel of an old club.
Things have changed and I now love everything about this place. The staff exudes such positive energy, The space had been redesigned and is now bright, comfortable, open and welcoming.
The food is incredible. I don’t think I have ever tasted a beef tartare as amazing as what I had at Belcampo today. It was so good, I had mentally prepared myself for the inevitable disappointment my burger would be in comparison, only to discover the burger was equally amazing.
I don’t know when exactly the redesign of this restaurant occurred, but for anyone who hasn’t been in awhile, I highly recommend a return visit.
Loved the food and vibe!
From the Hostess , waiter to the busboy, service was superb . Food was delicious & ambiance was great!
Great Steaks, beautiful dining room, great bar. I ordered the chopped salad, and New York Steak, which were both great.
This was our first visit to Bel Campo. We expected to be wowed by the food, the food was very average. The cost for two of us, without drinks or wine, was roughly $150. I expected a wonderful cut of meat, cooked perfectly and flavored exceptionally well. The meat wasn’t seasoned at all, a good cut of meat should be flavorful on its own, but a bit of seasoning is quite necessary to wow the palette. The chopped salad was very good, perfectly dressed, with a great combination of veggies, fruit and cheese. The salad set the mood for the meal. Sadly the rest of the meal didn’t live up to the excellence of the salad. The broccolini was super seasoned, very spicy and was not edible unless you like food spiced to burn your mouth. The fries were tiny little fries, almost like they were the end of a batch and so were tiny. Also unseasoned, fries do need salt, preferably added while the potatoes are hot and ready to hang onto some of the salt crystals.
Overall we were disappointed in our meal. Maybe next time we’ll just buy meat and cook it at home, then it will be seasoned to our liking.
Our server is very courteous and professional, very pleasant to talk to.
She helped us selecting the food, her recommendation is right on the spot.
She kept checking if everything is allright.
I was excpecting more steak choices, the chinese pear salads is excellent, the leaf is crunchy and very fresh. Portion is generous.
My pork chop was mostly fat and center tough. The rest of the meals were I would give a B. Over priced and non creative food.
