Bel Ari Italian Modern specializes in authentic Italian cooking and brick oven pizza. You can find a variety of pizzas, salads and pasta dishes on the menu every day. Bel Ari also offers a number of seafood options, such as shrimp and lobster potato gnocchi, pan-seared scallops and fried oysters. The restaurant offers daily specials, desserts and drinks, as well
The dining room at Bel Ari is modern and elegant. Enjoy your meal in a beautiful, intimate setting. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner with family or for a romantic evening. The restaurant provides friendly and knowledgeable service with world-class cooking.
I have had several meals at Bel Ari, both lunch and dinner, and have been wowed up the upscale, modern-style Italian food from a very thin veal scallopine topped with an arugula salad to a fantastic swordfish puttanesca. The pizzas are great too. I highly recommend it for business dinners as well - they have a nice back room.
Had the spicy shrimp pasta dish which was awesome!
A great new find in Boston. The food was great. My only suggestion is they not tell people their kitchen is closing, as it can feel a little rushed for dessert. Better not saying anything and service the people already there. Beyond that, superb. Highly recommended.
Food was good but service was really slow. The waiter was impossible to flag down.
The food was great but the way for the food took long and my server had a very rude attitude
We went on a Wednesday night, so it was very quiet. The staff was excellent - friendly, knew the menu, stayed on top of getting us more water and wine, etc. The food was perfectly respectable, but nothing really stood out and made we want to try more. Overall, it's a decent Italian restaurant with pretty standard fare.
Food was excellent!! fried calamari was delicious, salad choices with apples, beets or peaches were very fresh, the apple salad was very good. And the pasta was excellent!! No room for dessert ,too full. But the Super Tuscan by the glass was a nice treat- usually only by the bottle. Will surely go back soon. And they are correct- from someone who has dined in the North End for 30 years- you can have an Authentic Italian Meal that is not in the North End.
Always a great spot for a business lunch! Recommend it, good food, great service.
One of my favorite spots! Classic food with a twist-excellent for spending time with good friends or business associates
I would definitely recommend the food and service were excellent!
Very nice ambience, drinks were decent. Can't say the food was that special, given how many good Italian restaurants there are in the North End.
The former Sorriso has been refreshed and the new look and menu is an improvement over its predecessor. It's a fine place to have lunch if you are nearby. The menu had some nice dishes on it, the service was friendly, and my bolognese was decent. It's not a destination restaurant but comfortable and convenient to the financial district.
Food was tasty but not great. We ordered the veal bolognese and the risotto with vegetables. Service was good.
They could not find my OpenTable reservation after I received both a confirmation email as well as a PHONE CALL from the restaurant itself the morning of my planned lunch reservation. Not sure where the disconnect was. Luckily, they had openings for lunch anyways so there was no impact. I just thought it was bad form.
nice flavors and presentation. friendly server who messed up our orders but had a smile on her face. a nice lunch choice for a simple, reasonably-priced lunch in the Financial District
Food was tasty. Definitely recommend the Mussels app. And the tiramisu was as good as advertised.
But the service was not up to our expectations as it was not that busy for a Saturday and we waited a long time before getting a drink and app order and bringing the drinks.
I've been going to Bel Ari (previously Sorriso) for at least 4 years and have had pretty much every meal (lunch, happy-hour, dinner) in both small and large groups. I've never been disappointed with the quality of both the food and the service. The menu has some great options for a vegetarian like me and the staff is very accommodating in making modifications when necessary.
Definitely try the pasta rigatoni (I do it without the sausage); hot peppers add a kick to it. Wine / drinks selection is quite impressive as well.
Food was great! Mushroom Ravioli is awesome. I'm dying to try the pizza which I hear is excellent. There were quite a few kids there to add to noise level. Place is really awesome looking inside. Could have used more staff, but may have been because of slow summer. Only two people serving entire dining room.
Service was incredible and the food even better. Will return again!
Bel Ari keeps getting better and better. We've been here about 3 times and have had great meals every time but this last meal was perfection. We loved the gnocchi, the bolognese, the salmon, the roasted chicken carbonara. I want this little treasure to stick around! Heading next door to hear live jazz at Zygomates after the meal makes for the perfect evening.
We went here for a family birthday, looking for a quiet restaurant to catch up in central South Station area. Unfortunately they had a big beer promotion going on and it was very very loud. Waiter moved us to the quietest spot willingly. Wait was very helpful with meal selections. Variety of dishes were ordered and everyone was happy. Chicken dish with peaches on side looked very good. They brought a piece of cake for the birthday person which was a nice touch. Parking is tough but there is valet parking and a garage nearby which I couldn't find but others did. Had never been here before but would go back.
It was a special trip to Boston for my boyfriend's birthday and we were not disappointed by our dinner choice! Top notch service/waitstaff that will do what it takes to exceed your expectations. The lamb and goat cheese meatballs were extraordinary and both our meals were incredible. The only criticism (and it's minor) is that the potatoes were bland and had no spice/flavour. Otherwise than that, we would go again if we came to the area and highly recommend BelAri!!!
Delicious food in a quiet restaurant. Out of the way and the staff was lovely. They also got us out in time for a 7:30 show at the Opera House even though some of our party was delayed in arriving.
I particularly enjoyed the pizza alla mele and the salmon.
We have been here 3 times now and have loved the food and the ambiance. The bar is nice and the exposed kitchen and artwork on the walls is great. Go next door to Les Zygomates to hear live jazz after dinner and sit at one of their 2 bars. A really nice evening in the Leather District. I hope Bel Ari sticks around!
First time visiting the restaurant was with my girlfriend on 6/11. Restaurant was quite empty on a Thursday night then again the Financial District was not known to be a late night destination. The drink menu was quite different than the menu yelp. I thought the bread served to us was a bit hard and we had to pour olive oil to soften them up. The lamb meatballs were great. Girlfriend had the steak cooked medium and I ordered the pan seared salmon. The skin on the salmon was nice and crispy. I do not recall seeing the gnocchi on the menu. I had really wanted to try that dish since other reviewers raved about it.
Limited menu. Gnocci was excellent. Out of the way neighborhood. Not sure what neighborhood is like at night. Very close to South Station. Convenient for commuters waiting for a train.
Had a quiet lunch with friends. Relatively few people in the restaurant albeit, we ate at 1 pm. Pannini's were large and filling. Service was quick.
The melted cheesy appetizer was heavenly. We split the pork shank which was perfect, and the beet salad was nice and light. Our waitress was lovely and service was good. The ambiance was very nice and the noise level wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear. I'll definitely come back to try the gnocchi which is supposed to be awesome.
We will return! The appetizers and entrees were fantastic. Portion size is relatively smaller than most, which is perfect because your're not overstuffing yourself and have room for entrees after the apps. The wine list variety was diverse. We were also the only party there on a Saturday night, which we found strange, but we also liked it because we were hosting a large birthday party. Everyone was attentive since we were the only ones there. Great italian food. Love the bolognaise and the steak for entrees. The mac and cheese appetizer and the charcuterie plate was incredible, but the meatballs were average and a bit too elasticky for my taste.
Great food and great service. A very attentive staff.
Went for a business lunch with clients. We arrived on time and the restaurant was not crowded. Seated promptly but everything downhill from there. Twenty minutes after ordering I had to flag down the waiter to ask about our food. Assured that it was coming any minute. After thirty minutes asked the waiter to send over the manager. No response. After 40 minutes again asked the waiter to get the manager. She finally arrived 45 minutes after we ordered and still no food. Said that one employee was out that day. I find it hard to believe the restaurant is so dependent on one person, and if you are then you need to either close or let customers know up front that there will be delays. While we were talking our food finally arrived - more than 50 minutes after we ordered. Ironically we ordered the special of the day. At that point we couldn't stay and left hungry. Manager offered a free meal if we returned. After this experience did not take her up on it. Both she and the waiter seemed totally incompetent. Will never return.
Went on a quiet monday night which may have helped with the ambiance. The food was good overall. The meats were very good. Some of the salads were a little skimpy, but very tasty. I'd definitely go back.
Being named one of Boston's Best, my wife and I were expecting a lot more from Bel Ari. Granted the ambiance and decor were lovely but the food was particularly disappointing. Not just the odd portions -- a significant lack of lobster in all applicable dishes -- but generally poor flavoring, and shameful tiramisu. The only positive experience, food-wise, was the cappuccino my wife had for dessert. Not worth it.
Service was prompt, a great spot for lunch, excellent for business meeting.
AUTHENTIC COOKIN WITH MANY QUALITY PASTENE PRODUCTS.
Thought we'd try Bel Ari after work since it is about a two minute walk from the office. It's pricey on the pasta dishes--I had the pici pasta, which seemed to be spaghetti rather than the delightful noodles I had in Italy of the same name--at $19 for a smallish portion (fine for dinner, but no need to take any leftovers home) for a pasta with tomatoes, capers, olives and anchovies (there was some pancetta in there too), I thought it was a little high. And $36 for flat iron steak is really expensive. For the money, I'd rather go next door to Les Zygomates.
Meatball app consisted of three salty, marble-sized meatballs. Salmon entree was overcooked. And a scoop of ice cream dwarfed the piece of chocolate cake that was supposed to be the main component of dessert. Prices, though, were not miniscule. Les Zygomates down the block (a "sister" restaurant) is better, as was its predecessor, Sorriso.
Food was both tasteful and well-presented. The timing of the drinks with the bread and appetizers prior to dinner was spot on. I personally tasted the Rigatoni with Fennel Sausage and this was perfect with the added parmesean cheese added by the server. Would certainly recommend to friends.
Overall, Bel Ari is very nice. Two of us had what has been my favorite dish - a seafood stew. The flavor wasn't as good as usual (not that it was bad, but it wasn't as irresistible), and it lacked swordfish, which is in the menu description. That made it a rather unsatisfying lunch as 10-12 small muscles and clams are nice, but not filling enough.
Otherwise, it was fine, and the service is very attentive, professional and friendly. We spent $20/person with tip and no alcohol.
We went out without a plan at all and really just stumbled upon Bel Ari, and I am so glad that we did. It was our first night out in a while and the place was perfect. The food was amazing, but besides that there was a certain ambiance to it. It was a very relaxed, very intriguing vibe to it. I felt at home immediately. I would recommend it to everyone.
