This former biscuit factory, Bel & The Dragon Reading certainly has an interesting past. Sitting on the waterfront of the Kennet & Avon Canal, a short distance from the centre of the town, this unique building has been lovingly refurbished to house a vibrantly atmospheric restaurant and bar. The boardwalk and moored boat also provides an ideal waterside setting for alfresco dining.
Group Head Chef, Ronnie Kimbugwe, was previously the Senior Sous Chef of Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. He has worked closely with longstanding Head Chef, Steve Rooney, to create an entirely new menu boasting the finest in modern British cuisine. Both chefs share a passion for seasonal fare, sourced from local & sustainable ingredients. It is also complemented by the inclusion of a rotisserie for the very best Roast Chicken, Gressingham Duck or the signature spit roasted Suckling Pig.
And then there is the Josper Grill, which cooks at up to 600°C and is compared to an indoor barbecue!

Very disappointing- naive service (it was our fault), very dry food (they were our choices) and someone claimed to be us and took our table (and we were told about this). A real shame - it could have been so good

Maybe a few less potatoes and more vegetables. Risotto balls a bit bland. Need space in the booths to put coats and bags

Very poor. Restaurant has gone down hill since new owners. Very lazy clumsy serving staff. The food came out slow. When asking for more bread for our starter had to wait 15 mins for it to come and by that time the cooked Brie had gone hard. The main sharer steak came out luke warm and athough it was tasty the triple cooked potatoes were hard. I’ve been coming here for years but after my last couple of experiences I won’t be coming back.

A great venue for couples, large groups. Staff were very polite but service could have been a little quicker.

Service was poor staff inexperienced food was late had to look after own drinks. Was a great shame as go there regularly and is always good.£250 bill wasn’t worth it . When hubby approached manager no compensation was agreed deeply saddened as is on my door step and sadly won’t be returning.
