Beatrix - River North Ratings and Reviews
I had gone to the Westloop location and really like that but the brunch on Sunday was not good at all. The eggs had no taste, they didn't have any mushrooms (how do you run out of mushrooms on Sunday brunch?!). My boyfriend ordered eggs that were supposed to be over-easy but it looked like they weren't even cooked! I was very disappointed and I don't think i will go back.
Beatrix is a must-visit River North eatery with enough options for everybody. If you have to eat gluten-free (as I do) you'll be pleasantly surprised by the great many enjoyable dishes at your command. The atmosphere is energetic, but not too noisy; and the service is always remarkable, regardless of when I've been there. If you have complaints when leaving Beatrix, it's likely about your dinner date, not the meal.
Our waiter Jose, was EXCEPTIONAL. If we were to ever return, it would be solely for his service. Very crowed and loud. Took 20 minutes and the help of strangers to get bartenders attention in order to get drink. Arrived 30 minutes prior to reservation time because we wanted to request Jose. Watched every single table in his station turn before we were finally seated over 40 minutes past our reservation time-over an hour wait. Could never get an appetizer at the bar or a second drink. Not for lack of trying. Hostess was rather abrupt, repeatedly and even texted us that our table was finally ready when it was actually not. We left seats at the bar to stand another 15 minutes at the hostess stand. Food was marginal. Dessert Caramel Pie was only item we would recommend. Very sad to have not had a better experience and to have wasted a dinner in Chicago when there are so many amazing places we could have enjoyed.
Thanks, Beatrix. Came with colleagues to celebrate a birthday and our celebration was enhanced by our treatment at your restaurant: you seated us in a special booth in the window corner, offered to split our salads when you listened to the two of us debate which sounded more delicious, had a good balance of attentiveness avoiding annoyance and surprised our birthday girl with a candlelit slice of caramel cake! Such a nice afternoon with you!
My husband and I came here with a friend who was in town and had a great time. We ordered three appetizers and three entrees; all were delicious. The appetizers was especially good, as was the wine. We also were very impressed with the fresh juice and the fresh juice cocktails. For dessert, we ordered the "tall, dark, and handsome chocolate cake" and it was amazing. HIGHLY recommend that one. We will likely be back!
We have been to Beatrix several times. We brought business customers for brunch. Surprised to have to write it was disappointing. Busy for Sunday brunch but food was cold and not exciting as usual. Two of our guests had oatmeal that was missing the toppings. The waitress brought little cups of the toppings and had an apology. The two other of us had egg platters. They were cold and overdone. Too much ice in the fresh juices. Juices became watery. I would go back to Beatrix for lunch. Perhaps dinner. But I won’t return for brunch. It is not worth the money .
Based on the high reviews and price tag, I was expecting more from Beatrix. My $18 "homemade" tortellini turned out to be tough rolled sheets of pasta in a salty sauce that was supposed to be butternut squash. My uncle and I got the same thing and neither of us finished ours. Considering he was visiting from out of town, I was disappointed that I had brought him here. Our cesar salad was fine -- fresh but a over dressed. My boyfriend enjoyed his cocktail. Service was friendly but a little preoccupied. Especially considering how many great options there are in the neighborhood, we probably won't be returning.
I had a reservation for 1:30 for three, and upon arrival of our first two party members, the hostess said our table was "being set up". I got there myself at about 1:35, and she said the same thing to me. We waited until nearly 2:00, even though there were multiple 4 top tables visibly available. It wasn't until I approached the hostess stand a second time, called out the availability, and explained that two of my friends needed to go to the airport that she grabbed the menus and sat us right away.
The other time I dined at Beatrix was for Sunday brunch and the waiter brought an alcoholic brunch cocktail to a 10 year old that was dining with her father - LOL.
This place clearly doesn't have it together.
Beatrix is awesome. We had a reservation, sat down right away, and were taken care of by an outstanding waiter; he was attentive without being overbearing, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came quickly, and everything was delicious. We ordered the tsukune (Japanese chicken meatballs), pot roast filet mignon, and chicken bebe. The cocktails we had were great too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
We had dined at another Beatrix location several times, and were looking forward to the experience.
Seating for our reservation was prompt, even though it was a busy Saturday night.
Service was pleasant if harried. Food was disappointing. Maybe it was just an off night.
