Beatrix - River North
Beatrix is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night offerings, as well as brunch on Saturday and Sundays.
All pastries, breads and sweets are baked in house daily. Some of our favorites include Sadie's Crunch Cake, Honey Butter Cinnamon Buns and Chocolate Chunk Cookies. Our coffee and tea program will showcase two iconic Chicago roasters, Intelligensia and Metropolis and specialty offerings like Nitro, Bulletproof, and more!
We had a fabulous meal made even better by having Jackie as our waitress.
Maybe it was an off-night for the restaurant, but both the food and the service were subpar this visit.
The best avocado toast plus it’s affordable! My waitress was so personable and attentive, and she sent me to the airport with a blueberry banana bread slice on the house ❤️
Wonderful experience! Excellent service and tasty food. Definitely visiting again!!
This is a consistently solid Sunday brunch spot. Food was fresh and flavorful as usual and service was pleasant and accurate but kind of slow - as usual : )
Our experience at Beatrix was...good. And that's about it.
We started out ordering cocktails - I had the Warrior Pose and my friend had The Patio Pounder. Both drinks lacked multi-dimensional aspects throughout the palate, but for those of you who don't really care about different layers to a cocktail, they were light and refreshing, as described on the menu. However, we didn't get the cocktails until halfway through our appetizer, which wasn't exactly ideal.
We got our appetizer, the Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts, and I was impressed by the flavor, but not by the texture. The sprouts were VERY mushy, but taste-wise weren't too spicy, too tangy, too sweet, or too sour. It was a great execution in terms of flavor. But I prefer my sprouts to have a crispiness to them, and that certainly was not the case here, hence the aforementioned lack in texture.
For our main dishes, we got the Vegan Asparagus & Pea Farrotto and the House-Made Ricotta Ravioli w/ Heirloom Tomatoes. My friend's dish, the Farrotto was tasty considering it was vegan, but certainly not the best or even one of the best Farrotto dishes I've had. Again, it was mushy, and over-salted. My Ravioli dish was good. Ricotta wasn't great, presentation was lacking, and this dish seemed to be under-seasoned, but it was palatable enough for me to finish half of it.
The dessert took the cake (no pun intended), as the chocolate cake was dense, chocolate-y, and rich - just how I want my chocolate cake to be. It was served with an airy whipped cream, a perfect complement for the cake. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
Considering we saw our server twice, received our cocktails after our appetizer, and the food was good, but not great, Beatrix will not be on my recommendation list. If I was invited to return, I would, but I will not seek out another night to dine here anytime soon.
This is a really cute place, atmosphere is great, nice seating options with two bars and some tables with couches. The service was very good, our waitress was right on top of things. The food was also excellent, I had the ricotta ravioli and my husband had the chicken bebe, both excellent. Would recommend reservations however as Chicago gets really booked up.
This was my 1st time at this restaurant. Absolutely will go back. Food was amazing! Service was even better! Can't wait to go back!
We were staying at a hotel in Chicago downtown the night prior so we went to Beatrix for brunch. Overall the brunch experience was great and nothing to complain about. A few interesting things on the menu. The seating and environment gave you the neighborhood feeling on River North and also friendly to families. We loved the variety of their pastry store as well.
Excellent service from Jose. Delicious food
Best restaurant, coffee bar and bakery in Chicago! Amazing!!
My friend is a vegan and I am not. We both had many choices and really enjoyed our meal.
Our server was very helpful and we enjoyed all the menu items he suggested. The burrata appetizer was the winner for the evening.
The atmosphere was the best part. Portions were disappointing for the price and we had to return a dish that wasn’t hot. Management took it off the bill and replaced it but that shouldn’t happen in the first place. Probably won’t return.
The omelet I ordered was not really an omelet. There was so little cheese and the spinach was thrown inside not cooked. The salsa was literally running all over the food and I had to ask for a separate plate to put the eggs on. The hash browns were served sliced and an extremely small portion. Everyone I have spoken to about the experience has agreed that the food is awful. The baked goods were outstanding. Will never ever go back.
been there many times, enjoy everything about it, love the hummus.
Service and food as always superb! Definitely recommend the juice, and the Brussels sprouts are always a hit.
It is a popular restaurant, but tables are well spaced - food and service both very good.
The noise level, however was very loud and boisterous and not really conducive to converstion!
Love this place. The appetizer Kennebec Fries are one of my favorite things. Also love the salads. The open doors add to a great atmosphere. Will definitely come again.
The food and service were great but the noise level for a Friday lunch was unpleasant. We could hardly her the waitress explain about the specials.
The food was very good. Great sauce and juice as well.
Waitress was very efficient and pleasant.
We asked server for help when stuck between choices
She was spot on
FYI I don’t think we could have made a bad choice anyway
We wanted to get things we normally do not get and are not doable at home
If you don’t get the French fries with peppers and lemons
You will make a big mistake
Thanks for making our day so special!!!!!!!
This is a great option for lunch. There were four of us in our party and we were seated within our reservation window. We all shared some of their wonderful hummus and naan bread - would highly recommend this as a starter. Two members of our party had the burger with fruit and said it was exceptional. One person in our party had the pot roast sandwich, shared with the other two and they all went on about how great it tasted. I had the crunchy quinoa and avocado tacos. The tacos were good but it didn't come with anything like the sandwiches did (they got fries). I think it was a great vegan option but there just needed to be something a little extra on the side. Their chai latta (almond milk) was fantastic and their vegan cookie was not bad. The other individuals in my part said the caramel pie was something that you always needed to order when you visited. Overall it was a great visit, the service was fantastic but if you are looking for some place to carry on a conversation, this may not be it during the busy time. It was so loud in the restaurant that we had a hard time hearing the person sitting next to us. It would be a great hot spot during not so popular meal times.
I got the Halibut and my friend got the kebabs, which looked spectacular. The fish was phenomenal, my only complaint being that I wished the portion size was a bit bigger.
Bar service was slow/non-existent. I was the only person at the 8 seat bar and sat for 15 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged me. When she finally did she seemed vaguely annoyed that I was sitting at the bar. So I didn't have time to order a beer prior to being seated.
Once seated, food was good, drinks were good, although it took a long time before waitress came to greet the table. After the initial long wait for our waitress, service was decent.
Great place for Sunday brunch. Very good coffee and figure licking brown sugar bacon!
As always a delicious experience. I try something new every time for breakfast/brunch and I’m never disappointed.
My go to here is the lemon pancakes with a side of bacon.
The food was nice, showcasing a mix of traditional and unique breakfast/brunch food items. Service was attentive and friendly. The only issue our party had was with a food substitution. One of the members of the party asked to substitute tomato for bacon and was up-charged $4.95 for doing so. This was not mentioned to us, nor did it make sense considering the difference in cost was in the restaurant's favor. The server politely took the charge off the bill after we addressed the issue. Would definitely recommend, and would definitely eat here again.
I am consistently amazed by the quality and care that goes into every plate here. This is one of very few restaurants that makes both carnivore and vegetarian alike very happy.
Amazing! Joe was the best server. Chicken meatballs, skirt steak, and short rib were out of this world!!!!
Great place for a nice dinner with friends. The menu is varied and there were so many options that looked so good, it was hard to choose. Everyone was happy with what we ordered. All meals were fresh, unique, and not too heavy. Very reasonably priced. I will definitely be back!
The chocolate cake is freaking ridiculous. Burger only decent. Drinks excellent.
We had a great experience—it was for a birthday celebration and we were pleasantly surprised that our waiter comped both desserts! The food was great as always and would completely recommend.
Drinks were great. People generally liked their food. The praline French toast was flavorful but way too heavy on the bread.
We went for our 10 year anniversary and the food, ambiance and service did not disappoint. We ordered the beef stroganoff, filet mignon and Brussel sprouts and everything was amazing.
Not a traditional breakfast, but don’t let the quinoa and vulgar wheat scare you. Really well prepared food served by friendly people.
It was amazing! Great gluten free menu as well.
