Beatrix - River North Ratings and Reviews
We didn't have a good experience at Beatrix. Our server said ten words to us in total and our food arrived approximately 3 minutes after we ordered it. The food was average at best. I also thought that sitting in a plastic chair was odd at this price point. Lettuce entertain you is typically much better than this. We won't return.
Things never start out great when the waiter spills the entire water bottle on a guest. Ironic that with all the water, both the chicken and Filet Pot Roast were dry. The pot roast much more dry than the chicken, a huge disappointment for usually a very good dish.
My iced tea was empty for a solid 7-8 minutes before I got a new one, so that was annoying. That happened twice.
I've been here numerous times and this was the worst by far. But I will go back because it's still a delicious place and a good vibe. And, those cookies. Oh my.
We made a reservation for brunch on. Saturday. The place was PACKED but we got seated on the dot. Started off with fresh squeezed Valencia orange juice - delicious! Brunch items were equally scrumptious and the service was friendly and super efficient efficient. We had mentioned in passing that it was my birthday and after we ordered a chocolate chunk cookie to go our waiter delivered it on a saucer with a lit candle, then wrapped it up to go. I’ve had fantastic dinners at Beatrix butvthis was first brunch; will definitely repeat.
I left a note on the reservation explaining a medical condition one member of our group has, and Beatrix responded by giving us seats next to the fireplace and making it clear they received my note.
It was incredibly kind and thoughtful.
Not only was the food fantastic, they cared about our needs during a very busy brunch.
Will continue to go back!
We had excellent appetizers, crispy Kung Pao Brussels sprouts and some deliciously gooey burrata with toast and roasted cherry tomatoes. Our main courses did not keep pace with the excellent start; they were out of my first choice (branzino) so I had the short rib which was dry and accompanied by a cloyingly sweet balsamic reduction. My colleague's turkey meatloaf got picked at too, the texture was a bit odd and it seemed like Thanksgiving dinner run through a blender and formed into a loaf. I did have a great, buttery cookie at the end. Good service, nice drink/beer menu.
I do not normally leave reviews unless something was absolutely appalling or absolutely beyond my expectations... this place is the latter! Not only was the environment and staff very friendly, the food was out of this world. My sisters and I went here for brunch on Sunday and were completely impressed. You expect to find good food in Chicago, but this place was absolutely outstanding! I recommend everyone take a morning to visit here for brunch, it will not disappoint! Get some fresh squeezed juice and the lemon pancakes.... you will never look at a pancake the same again!
This was a dinner/business reservation and you might notice that I am not writing about the food. FIRST - We'd like to give a shout out to David who was an exceptional server for our registration. SECOND - We also note that the hostess mistakenly assigned our table to another party of three - and - as a result we ended up waiting for 20 more minutes. It wasn't really a problem because we were having a great discussion at the bar (and having read the on line reviews, expected to wait) and it was very nice that they comped the appetizers. So we would like to appreciate that the error was recognized and that management tried to fix it. And . . . have to say that the food was really only meh, not so fabulous. Maybe Brunch is better. We'll be back to try that. But we won't be running back.
We had reservations at 9:45AM for two. When we arrived we were told it would be just a few minutes and we ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seated. We would have appreciated an honest estimate when we arrived. We understand it’s a busy place but it doesn’t seem right to wait that long for reservations.
We had eaten at Beatrix before at Fulton Market and loved everything about it. This location was not as special. It was busy but not overwhelming and service seemed so very slow. The 4 of us were crammed at a high table in the bar area. We really could have used some space for our food. I had to have my coffee made twice as it just wasn't very good. Our waiter was very nice and helpful and we all liked our food. We would definitely go again.
