Beast and Bottle
Run by siblings Paul C. Reilly, who mans the burners, and Aileen Reilly, who oversees front of house, beast + bottle is located in Denver’s Uptown neighborhood.
The “beast” refers to the restaurant’s appreciation for the whole animal, utilizing all parts to honor its integrity. The owners’ relationships with farmers, ranchers and purveyors bring ethically and humanely raised, responsibly harvested and organic (whenever possible) ingredients to the table.
The “bottle” refers to drinks. b+b’s wine program is influenced by the European tradition of drinking wine how you’d like – whether that’s a glass or by the liter.
The menu changes whenever the kitchen pleases based on what’s in-season and what the cooks are enjoying at the moment. What remains constant is a steady focus on sustainability and versatility of ingredients.
This was our third time at Beast and Bottle (one dinner and one brunch) and I was not disappointed! Food and drinks were outstanding, ambience was nice, and service was very good - will definitely be going back.
Cozy atmosphere, simple yet surprising food combinations. Service was pretty much perfect, friendly, attentive, but not intrusive and no fuss. I want to eat here everyday.
Delicious food, basic ambiance, tight quarters.
Every course was delicious, and the service was exceptional. Lennie had great recommendations.
Great service and ambiance but didn’t find the food to be very good. We had a wide variety of items and thought they were all pretty average.
Food and ambience was great, but really is overpriced.
Limited menu but, great food. Wine a bit pricey. Service good.
Here for a birthday dinner for a family member. Excellent food, a fun waiter and a responsive hostess. The sound system was right above our table and we asked for it to be turned down so we could hear each other.
Excellent service and food. I wish their list of entrees was more extensive.
The food selections were excellent, and the value for the food was very reasonable. The staff is a bit less responsive than I typically expect...kind of a "hip" feel to the service rather than a traditional high end dining experience, so basically little sense of urgency to the service. The wait staff was knowledgeable about the dishes/ingredients. Overall very good dining experience, service could be a bit better (IMO), but I felt was a good value for the cost with an interesting menu and trendy vibe.
We expected more from the reviews we read.
The food seemed average and a little frugal.
Food was pretty good overall, and the service was great.
Beast and Bottle has been one of our favorites for several years. They never disappoint!
We have been periodically going to Beast & Bottle since it opened, and are never disappointed.
We had a wonderful dinner. The food was awesome and the service was strong. Can't wait to go back.
We have been to Beast and Bottle before and really enjoyed it. We went for our anniversary and it was a lovely experience. This time was not so great. The noise level was off the charts and there were a couple of particularly lively tables that made it almost impossible for us to carry on conversation, though we could hear THEIR conversation very clearly.
Service was very slow on the front side. It took almost 10 minutes to get drinks. But once it picked up, it was almost rushed. We ordered a Charcuterie plate and were just barely finished with it when the meal arrived. We had remembered a more relaxed pace for the food. With dessert, we were out of the restaurant in under an hour which, for a meal like that we would normally spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Our waiter was great. Engaged at just the right level. He didn't hover, but checked in frequently enough.
The food was disappointing, honestly. I had the short rib and I had great expectations. It was fatty and under-seasoned and there was not nearly enough sauce, which was the best part of the dish. My husband had the lamb steak and he thought it was good, but for a $170 meal, not as well seasoned as it should have been. The dessert, however, (we had the Apple Pie trio) was fantastic.... absolutely incredible.
Overall, for a meal at that price point, we were looking for something that really blew our doors off, for impeccable service from the beginning to the end, a leisurely meal (with drinks that came a bit faster, though), really well seasoned, mouthwatering food, and a little more ambiance, especially from a noise perspective.
Overall decent. Expecting more robust flavors. Would I go back, probably but not for a while.
We went for my husband’s birthday and they made sure it was a special evening. Everything was outstanding!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here! The service was east and friendly, the food, out of this world. The wine list was great, and our server had good knowledge of the wines, and helped us choose a bottle that was wonderful!
We went for my husband's birthday and they offered just the right amount of celebration. No over the top singing, but a polite acknowledgement. Also, the server was able to help me navigate the menu despite having a restricted diet.
The lamb steak and lamb short rib combination, with eggplant puree is simply marvelous.
The best food I’ve ever had there.
One of the top three dining experiences of my life. Amazing tastes in the lamb entrees. Every dish was perfectly planned, cooked, and seasoned. The staff was great. Our waiter knew the menu and the farms that supplied the ingredients. Great ambiance in a cozy dining room. This was a meal my wife and I will remember for the rest of our lives.
Smokin Whiskey Lullaby is delicious. Food and Service great as always!
Absolutely an amazing experience! Loved the food and the atmosphere. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff made sure we felt extra special. Would definitely recommend!
Cute little restaurant! Everything we ordered was delicious, this was our favorite meal while visiting Denver!
Delicious! Portion sizes seemed small but by the end of the night, the entire meal was perfect.
Every dish was delicious, original and creative in presentation. Cocktails that you actually want to drink. The pot (3 glasses) of Nebbiolo was much better than carafe wines elsewhere. Portion sizes were appropriate for normal humans. Service was knowledgeable, friendly and comfortably paced (thanks Yaphet). Becoming a regular place for us despite our tendency always to try something new.
First time I are a full meal here —surprisingly good I have food allergies and Chef and wait staff went out of their way
To go through entire menu Thank you!!
Loved every thing except on one dish cucumber skin was too tough to eat
Cocktails and desserts quite inventive
From the cocktails to the appetizers to the entrees and dessert. This wonderful place always amazes me. Absolutely delicious!
Food was tasty but we were a party of 3 seated at a weird 5-top bar table right near kitchen expo. Lots of staff foot traffic, which was simultaneously fun to watch (because I've worked it) and distracting from conversations with my own friends. I think our server might've been new-ish, which again is fine, but considering this was our big night out (3 moms of 5 YOUNG kids, meeting up from all over the country for the weekend), it would've been nice to understand what he was saying AND be able to reach the floor with our feet.
Music was STELLAR.
My husband and I love Beast and Bottle and go there for many special occasions. While still very good, it seems like they’ve changed some things since our last visit to make it a bit more casual. I’m not sure if they offer a tasting menu anymore. This last time we chose to sit outside, and there was a frequent garbage smell, which you could detect inside as well. Not sure if it was a plumbing or sewage issue in the neighborhood, and I’m sure the staff was trying to get to the bottom of it.
Perfect portion sizes with incredibly high quality ingredients. The patio on a warm summer night is really nice. I can't wait to return!
Honestly I won’t rush back to this used to be hot spot. Booked this for my birthday. No acknowledgement of that. Music was turned up to dance level, and the food while good was served in very small, almost tapas sized portions. Disappointed.
The lamb dishes were excellent, esp. the papardelle with lamb ragù . We had 1 dessert ( peach babka) which we thought was pretty mediocre. But overall we had a great meal and would absolutely return.
An institution in Denver. Deservedly known for being hyper local with uncompromising dedication to their food and wine. Never have I had a sub par experience here and I doubt I ever will. The service is knowledgeable and not intrusive. One of the owners, Aileen, was manning the host stand and she is amazing. The fact that there isn’t a line out the door every day they are open is beyond me.
Good food but heavily focused on one main which I find off putting to most diners. A lot of people don’t like lamb and the majority of the menu was such. Agreed - don’t go here if that’s not your thing but I think a restaurant should be more open item menu.
We spent 4 nights in Denver and hit up great restaurants during our visit, but Beast + Bottle was a huge highlight and our favorite by far. We booked an early reservation and were the first in on a Thursday night. Even though the staff was settling in, we were seated immediately in a cute booth by a friendly host. Our server, Nick (manager, if you're reading this, give him a high five for me), was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. Great wine list, but don't pass up the cocktails! I had the Rhubarbra Ann and it was delightful. Fried zucchini appetizer was delicious. For entrees we had the lamb burger with fries and the lamb pappardelle. We were surprised at how good the fries were with the beet ketchup. Creative and tasty dessert menu- we had the carrot cake. Yum! But the best dish was definitely the lamb pappardelle. I've had a lot of pasta in my life but oh god this dish! I cried tears of joy. I am requesting this dish as my last meal (or every meal of my life). I want to marry this dish. Have it tattooed onto my body. Have it written on my tombstone. I am not kidding. Even when I was full, I could not stop eating it if I tried. I am devastated that I live 2,000 miles away. We'll be back- even if I have to walk there. Signing off for now, Mrs. Pappardelle.
Loved the food... don’t skip out on the ice-cream! I’m not usually a big dessert person but it was awesome. The only issue I had was the smell... it smelt, for lack of a better way to say it, like a bathroom. I got used to it after awhile but both my dinner partner and I noticed it right away.
Loved the Fig & Pig pizza!
