Always a pleasure to dine at Bearnaise and this time was no different. Can't say enough about the friendly staff, especially the delightful hostess (hostess/manager?) who greeted on arrival and as we left. Rarely does a restaurant make you feel so welcome. The best thing on the menu is most definitely the bread basket - for a cheap price you get 6 or 7 varieties of freshly baked (still warm) pastries. As for entrees the Montreal special is delicious (salmon, bagel, cream cheese, tomato, onion and capers) while the bennies come with the eggs perfectly cooked and a rich creamy sauce. Nice cocktail, wine and beer list. What a great place - A+

I was surprised by how good my brunch burger was. Plus added an egg on top. Great option for a late in day brunch.

Fine experience overall, but different from when I go with my friends. My parents are visiting for a few weeks, so I wanted to take them to one of my favorite spots. They seem like out-of-towners. Our waiter commented on that, making me wonder if our service was noticeably lesser because of that.

My eggs Benny egg was essentially uncooked... like the white was translucent and completely runny.

Drinks were good... won't be back.

They do frites very well. If you just want wine and frites, this is a good place. I ordered duck confit, and it was so salty yet lacking in flavor that I really struggled to get through it. My girlfriend ordered the steak, which was quite good and cooked perfectly. The waiter brought all of the tables around us bread, but did not bring us any bread. My girlfriend liked her meal, and the wine was good, so it was not a terrible place for a date, but the duck was bad enough that I won't return. There are too many decent French places in DC to waste time, and money, on this one.

Overall we had a great experience. The food was delicious, and the spicy bloody mary's were delicious. The manager and bartender were very friendly, but for some reason, our server just seemed to be un-enthused throughout our stay, which dampened the mood a little.

A customer got sick in the restroom and created quite a scene during brunch, which was a little distracting (glad she was okay though!). The eggs on most dishes were also a little undercooked, but otherwise we loved it. Great deal for bottomless mimosas and amazing buttery croissants.

One of the very best restaurants on Capitol Hill. Terrific service and classic French bistro cuisine. I highly recommend a table on the sidewalk to enjoy a glass of rosé and watch the world go by.

Decided to try Bearnaise for brunch. The pastry basket was the perfect starter to a hearty entree. The mimosas did not disappoint and the serving sizes were generous. The bloody Mary's were watery. The waiters were so friendly and attentive, even the manager on duty at the time

This was a nice find for French food and interesting cocktails. Appetizers are interesting too. It was somewhat pricy for the portions, though, which seemed small given the high prices. The service was great, and the neighborhood is nice - very safe and quieter than most DC neighborhoods, if walking to the restaurant from the Capitol South metro stop. I would come back but may hold off on ordering certain apps or any apps. Had the escargot, which was much tinier than any I'd ever seen. Mussel pots are nice but could've also used a few more mussels given the price of $24. Overall, it gets a positive review.

Though the food was good, the server was very rude. He was impatient while taking our order. Then he tried to take away our plates while we were working on it. He put the bill on our table after taking away our entries without asking whether we wanted a cup of coffee or not. Not mentioning presenting the desert menu. Bad service and will definitely not go again.

What a delightful brunch experience at Bernaise. It was super hot and humid outside so we skipped the patio and ate inside. The hostess was extremely personable and showed us to a table with a huge smile on her face. We have had the same server in the past - he does a great job making menu recommendations and suggesting brunch cocktails. He is very attentive without being overbearing and contributed to our enjoyable meal. Manager floated in and out of the dining room, stopping by our table twice and making sure we had drink refills when needed. We ordered the bakery basket to start - the pastries came still hot from the oven and were beautifully flaky. The three of us could have easily eaten two baskets, they were so good. For entrees we had the Montreal special (bagel, lox and cream cheese with accompaniments), the French Bennie and a ham and Brie omelet. All were prepared exactly as ordered and tasted fantastic. The Bennie is my favorite of any eggs benedict I've ever tried. Nice cocktail and beer list - - all are reasonably priced. A lovely DC restaurant - A+

We went for Sunday brunch and had terrible service and mediocre food. I asked what was in the veggie omelette and was told zucchini and cheese. I was served a mushroom and cheese omelette. It then took approximately 7 minutes to receive the hot sauce and ketchup we asked for. On top of all of that, we had to confirm that the mimosas actually had champagne in them. The waiter was also slow to top us off. So that's your bottomless brunch for ya. Eventually the manager took over our table. He was great and thankfully made it a more bearable experience.

Dinner at Bearnaise was disappointing. It started off well with the chicken liver appetizer, which was truly delicious. The entrees, however, let us down. We order the filet mignon, listed at the market price on the menu. The meat was unbelievably salty and so was the bearnaise sauce that accompanied it. Simply inedible. The fries were stale. When the bill arrived we learned that the filet cost $48--a shock given the quantity and preparation. Service was terrible. Of the two waiters, one kept dropping items on the floor and the other didn't listen to our requests. We asked him to recommend a red wine, not too dry. He served us a very dry Bordeaux. Needless to say, we won't return and we'll warn our friends to stay away.

Don't go if you're in a hurry or very hungry. Our waiter didn't bring our pastries we had ordered right away and then ordering and getting the food took a very long time. The waiter also explicitly berated me for ordering 2 mimosas instead of the bottomless one, and then brought the wrong one in the end anyway. I'd go back for the reasonably priced good food, but with low expectations for service.

Solid Bistro Food. Really does remind me of Montreal Bistro food . Nothing fancy but well prepared. Only problem was I asked for medium rare steak frites and the steak was raw. A new dish was prepared, not reheated or nuked or put under the heater. Care about what they are doing.

We have eaten here several times. The food is excellent, and some dishes are exceptional. This particular visit the service was well below the standard the staff has provided in the past. Maybe it was an off night, but it seemed to permeate the whole service side of the evening. We plan to write it off to that fact and return. Excellent restaurant on Capitol Hill and worth the visit. But the service game needs to be picked up a bit.

We were a party of 4 on Saturday night. I should first say the food was very good and we had no complaints in that department. The waiter, on the other hand, was dreadful. He was unfriendly, never smiled, barely communicated, and just went through the motions. The most egregious thing was when we saw him remove a half empty bottle of wine from a table left by departed diners, pour himself a large glass of wine and drink it. After he finished that glass, he had another from another bottle. No wonder he encouraged us to have a bottle of wine on us when we only wanted 2 glasses. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't waiters NOT supposed to be drinking on the job. Management should be keeping a closer eye on their wait staff. We were so outraged that it ruined our experience and I will not return.
