We stopped at the Beacon on a whim. We were in the area, opened up the Open Table app and booked a table for a quick lunch. Boy, were we pleased! Great food! We just had burgers, but these burgers are above and beyond. They have a small tap list, but offer a good variety. The staff is SO nice, too! Great food, beer, and service. You can't ask for more!
They also have several shuffle board tables. We were too much in a hurry to play, but I thought that was a very cool feature.
(Oh and the NICEST bathrooms you'll find)
We were 8 for Easter and made a reservation only 2 days before the date. It was easy to reserve, and our table was tucked away. they had a nice and interesting Easter brunch menu- which many of us tried . They also had live music- a guitar player- who was great but we were probably a little too close as we had to talk over his playing. the restaurant was not full and our meal was great and not rushed at all. The service was good. I would definitely recommend for groups, for an easy bite etc- The Graduate Hotel is darling and great to just hang out in the lobby w a coffee!
Went to the Beacon for a drink at night and then for Easter brunch. Food and drinks are good, service is good. Nice place and connected to the Graduate Hotel, so great spot on U Minn campus.
Located right in the middle of the Minnesota campus, this little jewel saved us from the mundane food near our hotel. We were in town for the NCAA Men's Swim Finals at the Jean Freeman Aquatics Center. The restaurant was hidden inside the Graduate Hotel. The outside sign wasn't even lit but it is right next to Appleby's. The salmon was delicious, perfectly cooked, as were the Eggs Benedict and their burger. Lovely atmosphere. The service was superb which we thought was a reflection of the Minnesota population, friendly helpful people everywhere!
Great stop before sporting events on the U of M campus
We had breakfast before the Gopher Women’s Basketball game. Service was excellent and efficient. Food was good but not exceptional. Bloody Mary is very spicy, but u was forewarned! The air hockey tables in the lounge area were a little noisy. But no real complaints. Great pre-game spot.
Good stop prior to a Gopher game. Higher quality than most other restaurants in the immediate area around the sports facilities.
Greatly updated from the days when I went to the U. Great atmosphere and beer selection.
We discovered this place when we were looking for somewhere to eat before a Gopher basketball game. It fit the bill. Not overrun by students (probably a touch too expensive for them), but still gets busy so get there early or make a reservation. The food is very good--I've had the turkey burger and we went for brunch once when I had the breakfast tostada--also very good. The service is efficient. I highly recommend it.
Stopped for a quick dinner before gopher hockey game. Restaurant was very cold due to outside temp and revolving door not working at hotel entrance. It was not busy when we first arrived. Had to wait for beer and remind server after other items arrived but overall server was attentive. Chips and salsa claim to be homemade but t chips seemed stale and salsa tasted like pace picante. Pecan crusted walleye had slight fishy taste and veggie pilaf was a minute portion. ( Very disappointing for a high ticket item). Fish and chips just so-so. House burger was the best of three items ordered. Apple tartlets for dessert had only a tiny piece of apple (total waste of money) bread pudding was just ok. 3 people, 2 beers each , ok service and less than ok food for price (avg of $40 per person) , I felt overall the experience was pretty spendy and really disappointing.
My friend and I wanted to grab a quick dinner before the Gophers’ game. We made a reservation and had prompt service, very good food, and overall an enjoyable experience.
I had the beet salad with chicken and it was fantastic.
We eat here three or four times during each volleyball season. The location is the biggest reason but the food and the value keeps us coming back. The salmon entree is as good as any restaurant in the twin cities. The side dish of winter vegetables is great. The Bearnaise sauce is as good as any.
Leaving a special instruction on the Open Table instruction is useless.
A Great Surprise. Interesting diverse menu. Well prepared. Loved our meals. Very friendly and engaging staff. Atmosphere is nice ... a good vibe when many people are there.
Wonderful Thanksgiving meal. My son, grandson, husband and I had a hearty Thanksgiving meal. The squash soup was delicious! Thanks to the chef. The wait staff was right there whenever we needed them. Thanks to the app Open Table, for connecting us.
Great service, but mediocre food. Went for Thanksgiving and got the traditional-style dinner. Turkey was moderately dry, cranberries nice but uninspired, mashed potatoes seemed unseasoned in any way. Gravy and stuffing were tasty. Candy corn ice cream was a better novelty than I expected it to be, but the apple crisp was lacking in both flavor and crisp.
Given, this was a one-off holiday menu. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed the privacy of the high-backed semi-circle booths, and I wouldn't be surprised if they execute their regular menu with more success.
Eight of us went for Sunday brunch, and everything was great. Friendly, responsive staff. Excellent food quality with a unique selection of options. Definitely recommend!
I was disappointed that the express lunch had less vegetarian options on it this time then times past. I got the flatbread but it wasn't my favorite. Service was outstanding, as always.
The salmon and root vegetables taste good and are a great value. Easy walk to the Pavilion is main reason to eat here. A great conversation with the waitress -
W. How would you like your salmon prepared?
Diner 1 I would like it pink in the center.
W. It will come that way. And you sir?
Diner 2 I would like it red in the center.
W. They all come pink in the center.
Diner 2 Why did you ask us how we want it prepared if they all come the same way?
W. I have to take your order.
Love the ambience and the food. Not equipped for dinner before a game at Williams Arena.
WONDERFUL service! Our server was outgoing, extremely helpful, and really made for a great dining experience.
Pecan crusted walleye was outstanding. Sweet potato burger was just ok. Service was great, attentive and knowledgeable. Nice atmosphere, quiet Tuesday evening. It was very nice to shoot pool and watch the Twins game after dinner.
First time eating here. Celebrating my wife's birthday. We will definitely be back. Great food. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Had such a great meal we came back the next night.
Great rack of lamb. Fabulous service and food beer.
The menu numbers quite a list of wonderful items. Our group tried the Atlantic Salmon, Roasted Beet Salad with chicken, and Curried Sweet Potato-Wild Rice Burger - all excellent. We also shared the Wild Mushroom Toast - wonderful! We enjoyed these crafted cocktails, Rosemary’s Baby, French Connection, and a Dark and Stormy. The service was excellent - we will be back.
Always enjoy trying something new. Quite a nice beer selection.
Great food, great server (ask for Dan's tables). Will go back.
Our family enjoyed breakfast at Beacon House the morning of graduation. We ordered a variety of dishes, from pancakes to salmon to omelets and all were served in a timely manner and were hot and tasty. The salmon dish, served with capers, cream cheese and tomatoes, was beautiful ad so good. The pancakes are enormous so if you don't have a hearty appetite, order the short stack. All portions were generous. Our server was excellent. We were staying at the hotel so having a great restaurant right in the lobby was convenient when we were on a schedule. We had a reservation for 8:15, and when we walked in, the restaurant was nearly empty, but I would recommend making a reservation because by the time we left, the place was packed.
first of all must commend the restaurant for accommodating us. we had reservations for 6 and that grew to 14 only 3 hours before our reservation (in town for family wedding). service was excellent and the food was really good. wife got the roasted chicken which was excellent. i got the gnocchi which was good but rich. others got a variety of food which were also good. i'm not a fan of hotel restaurants but would definitely go back to this one and highly recommend it.
Grace was awesome! From the beginning to the end they made the experience awesome. All staff were good!
Service started a bit slow because our waiter had a large group he was taking care of next to us. We started getting a bit frustrated which a manager working that night must have noticed and decided to serve our table of four to help out. It's not very often a manager would step in and do that, dinner was great and we were well taken care of the rest of the night.
We stopped in after an event at TCF Bank Stadium. The food was just "OK" and when we made comments when asked, the server said "Yeah, I don't like the new plating either...." The beet salad is not a beet salad - it is a salad with some beets on it. The mussels were delicious and saved the meal. The service is slow - but it seems like they're trying. I wanted this to be better - likely won't be back.
Beacon House was a complete surprise nestled in the Commons Hotel on the U of M campus. The menu was creative and ranges from burgers to elk. We ordered the elk, salmon, chaunticleur plate and beer salad and grazed. Everything was outstanding. Server was very educated on fine dining in a casual setting. Highly recommend!
My first experience was delightful. I was a bit worried about the noise level but it faded into the background. The food quickly became the focus as our knowledgeable, pleasant server Cindy answered our questions about the menu. My elk chop was a hearty, flavorful plate that included sauces and roast vegetables all cooked to perfection. We will be back and are telling others about the Beacon!
Food was over salted. Salmon was very salty and id flavor
Very comfortable and attractive environment. Good for conversation. Excellent service.
Every time we come to the Beacon House we have wonderful food and cocktails. The food is well prepared and presented. The cocktails are very well made with fine ingredients. The wait staff and bartender's are especially friendly. We have had great experiences with Cindy (waitress) & Michael (bartender). Super kind and attentive. Overall wonderful atmosphere. We really enjoy spending time at this establishment.
Yum!!!! Great food--- the sweet potato vegetarian burger is great! The kohlrabi apple salad is also fantastic.
Bethany is the best server you'll find!!
Is a fine place I downtown near the U of M server seemed a little distracted but OK. Would recommend if in the area after a game.
Food was great, service was wonderful, overall fun dining experience.
