Beacon Public House - Graduate Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
We discovered this place when we were looking for somewhere to eat before a Gopher basketball game. It fit the bill. Not overrun by students (probably a touch too expensive for them), but still gets busy so get there early or make a reservation. The food is very good--I've had the turkey burger and we went for brunch once when I had the breakfast tostada--also very good. The service is efficient. I highly recommend it.
Stopped for a quick dinner before gopher hockey game. Restaurant was very cold due to outside temp and revolving door not working at hotel entrance. It was not busy when we first arrived. Had to wait for beer and remind server after other items arrived but overall server was attentive. Chips and salsa claim to be homemade but t chips seemed stale and salsa tasted like pace picante. Pecan crusted walleye had slight fishy taste and veggie pilaf was a minute portion. ( Very disappointing for a high ticket item). Fish and chips just so-so. House burger was the best of three items ordered. Apple tartlets for dessert had only a tiny piece of apple (total waste of money) bread pudding was just ok. 3 people, 2 beers each , ok service and less than ok food for price (avg of $40 per person) , I felt overall the experience was pretty spendy and really disappointing.
We eat here three or four times during each volleyball season. The location is the biggest reason but the food and the value keeps us coming back. The salmon entree is as good as any restaurant in the twin cities. The side dish of winter vegetables is great. The Bearnaise sauce is as good as any.
Leaving a special instruction on the Open Table instruction is useless.
Great service, but mediocre food. Went for Thanksgiving and got the traditional-style dinner. Turkey was moderately dry, cranberries nice but uninspired, mashed potatoes seemed unseasoned in any way. Gravy and stuffing were tasty. Candy corn ice cream was a better novelty than I expected it to be, but the apple crisp was lacking in both flavor and crisp.
Given, this was a one-off holiday menu. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed the privacy of the high-backed semi-circle booths, and I wouldn't be surprised if they execute their regular menu with more success.
The salmon and root vegetables taste good and are a great value. Easy walk to the Pavilion is main reason to eat here. A great conversation with the waitress -
W. How would you like your salmon prepared?
Diner 1 I would like it pink in the center.
W. It will come that way. And you sir?
Diner 2 I would like it red in the center.
W. They all come pink in the center.
Diner 2 Why did you ask us how we want it prepared if they all come the same way?
W. I have to take your order.
The menu numbers quite a list of wonderful items. Our group tried the Atlantic Salmon, Roasted Beet Salad with chicken, and Curried Sweet Potato-Wild Rice Burger - all excellent. We also shared the Wild Mushroom Toast - wonderful! We enjoyed these crafted cocktails, Rosemary’s Baby, French Connection, and a Dark and Stormy. The service was excellent - we will be back.
Our family enjoyed breakfast at Beacon House the morning of graduation. We ordered a variety of dishes, from pancakes to salmon to omelets and all were served in a timely manner and were hot and tasty. The salmon dish, served with capers, cream cheese and tomatoes, was beautiful ad so good. The pancakes are enormous so if you don't have a hearty appetite, order the short stack. All portions were generous. Our server was excellent. We were staying at the hotel so having a great restaurant right in the lobby was convenient when we were on a schedule. We had a reservation for 8:15, and when we walked in, the restaurant was nearly empty, but I would recommend making a reservation because by the time we left, the place was packed.
first of all must commend the restaurant for accommodating us. we had reservations for 6 and that grew to 14 only 3 hours before our reservation (in town for family wedding). service was excellent and the food was really good. wife got the roasted chicken which was excellent. i got the gnocchi which was good but rich. others got a variety of food which were also good. i'm not a fan of hotel restaurants but would definitely go back to this one and highly recommend it.
Service started a bit slow because our waiter had a large group he was taking care of next to us. We started getting a bit frustrated which a manager working that night must have noticed and decided to serve our table of four to help out. It's not very often a manager would step in and do that, dinner was great and we were well taken care of the rest of the night.
We stopped in after an event at TCF Bank Stadium. The food was just "OK" and when we made comments when asked, the server said "Yeah, I don't like the new plating either...." The beet salad is not a beet salad - it is a salad with some beets on it. The mussels were delicious and saved the meal. The service is slow - but it seems like they're trying. I wanted this to be better - likely won't be back.
Beacon House was a complete surprise nestled in the Commons Hotel on the U of M campus. The menu was creative and ranges from burgers to elk. We ordered the elk, salmon, chaunticleur plate and beer salad and grazed. Everything was outstanding. Server was very educated on fine dining in a casual setting. Highly recommend!
My first experience was delightful. I was a bit worried about the noise level but it faded into the background. The food quickly became the focus as our knowledgeable, pleasant server Cindy answered our questions about the menu. My elk chop was a hearty, flavorful plate that included sauces and roast vegetables all cooked to perfection. We will be back and are telling others about the Beacon!
Every time we come to the Beacon House we have wonderful food and cocktails. The food is well prepared and presented. The cocktails are very well made with fine ingredients. The wait staff and bartender's are especially friendly. We have had great experiences with Cindy (waitress) & Michael (bartender). Super kind and attentive. Overall wonderful atmosphere. We really enjoy spending time at this establishment.
I wanted to go out for Thanksgiving dinner and found that Beacon Public House was going to be open and had a Thanksgiving menu available with all the trimmings. I'd never been here before, even though it's very close to home. I'm very glad I did, and I hope to go back many times. This is a cloth napkin restaurant with paper napkin prices, the food and service were awesome and it's practically right on the East Bank campus of the University of Minnesota. The Thanksgiving menu was great value, and I can't wait to go back and try some of their regular fare.
We were seated quickly and the host found a nice table to accommodate a work group of 5 people. Our waiter was cordial and very polite. The food was excellent, but it took several minutes for all 5 of us to receive our meals (we waited until all 5 had their food orders delivered before we began eating). Overall, a VERY good experience.
