About Beacon Hill Bistro

Raised mahogany paneling, banquette seating, mosaic tile flooring, etched glass, discrete mirrors and a large fireplace help to create a refined and comfortable bistro environment on Charles Street in Beacon Hill. A true urban neighborhood venue, The Beacon Hill Bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. While breakfast and lunch have an American/International flavor, at dinner the accent is decidedly French. Lucas Sousa crafts menus calling on modern bistro cuisine, “striving to balance tradition with modern tastes and techniques.” The Bistro also serves late-night dinners until 11:00 p.m. for the after-theatre, symphony, and film crowd. And, of course, Sunday brunch.

Disappointing, service very slow, food mediocre, fish sandwich was fishy, steak was very chewy in the steak noodle salad, caeser salad was nothing special, we did not stay for dessert. This could be so much better, the menu is nice for a casual dinner, the execution misses on many fronts.
Maybe they were under staffed, but the service needs help, we sat down and did not get waited in for 15 minutes and we sat in front!

A lovely way to spend our New Year's Eve anniversary. We usually just stop by for a drink, but decided to try dinner this time. The prix fixe menu offered several choices, and our selections were all wonderful. Great service also, something we have experienced every time.

Really a great place for dinner, and one of us has had several great lunches there as well!

It was a bitterly cold night -I'm almost sure most cancelled their reservations- but the staff was terrific as it would be any other night. They were gracious and let us stay past closing (we were unaware of closing time) to catch up with an old friend. The food was excellent and the wine list incredible. Wonderful place.

Dissappointing...Christmas Eve..reservations at7pm seated at 7p m..waited for 10 for server ...first course; wrong soup served....still waiting for our main course at 8:30! No explanation given. When we asked waitress said " kitchen problem" We have been to this restaurant 4 Christmas Eve dinners ...likely will look for another place for our most special celebration

Great food and nice atmosphere, but felt the service could have been a little more attentive. It took about 25-30 minutes after sitting to get our first drinks and we didn’t place our food orders for some time after that. I know I would have at least ordered one more drink and anther plate of food if the server came around a littler more frequently. It didn’t help that our dining neighbors came in 15 minutes after us and received both their drinks and multiple plates of food before us.

I love the BHB and have gone there for years. This was the first time the experience was not perfect. The server was the issue. I will not let his one-off affect future visits.

The Beacon Hill Bistro is my number one pick for dinner or lunch with my girlfriends.
The ambiance is wonderful, with great lighting. The views of Charles St. out the windows is magical, especially at Christmastime. I will be there twice this week! Convenient to the Green Line and Red Line.

One of our neighborhood go-tos, just as good for a casual lunch or bruch as it is a more celebratory dinner. Quality had fallen off in recent years -- for a long time, it felt as if the Bistro didn't know what it wanted to be. But new ownership of the hotel and new leadership the in the kitchen from Chef Tim have turned the place around again, and the menus feature solid, comforting New American fare, as well as an interesting wine list, at a solid value. We ate there twice for brunch and breakfast this weekend, as a matter of fact, as we had company in town and the rest of the midday offerings in Beacon Hill skew toward the uncreative -- and the higher-priced. Choose breakfast or brunch here over the Paramount or 75 Chestnut any day of the week.

Excellent service. A smallish menu, but there was something for everyone. Inventive cocktails. Excellent quality proteins and vegetables. Cozy atmosphere. Quiet enough to hold a conversation without straining to be heard. A good amount of space between tables. Plating of food was visually pleasing and food was creative and perfectly cooked.

Our server, Emily, made this night special. She was attentive and knowledgeable, anticipating our needs a few seconds before they occurred to us. She enthusiastically encouraged all of our desires and seemed genuinely happy to spend time with us. The food was excellent, but not particularly special. It's a good restaurant for those who want pretty close to standard fare.

Disclaimer - my visit was the day AFTER Thanksgiving. I hadn’t been back to the Beacon Hill Bistro for a number of years and was prepared for change; that said, I wasn’t ready for THAT MUCH change. The service staff was more unprepared than I had remembered. Everything was a bit slow (they get to you when they can) disorganized and harried (staff seems to be learning the ropes). That said, the brunch food was fine and I like that quaint dining space is still what it is. To management, place DON’T screw up a good thing!!!

We were early for brunch but were seated and enjoying some sparkling wine until the kitchen opened. The oysters were delicious - fresh and briny. The salad frisee with avocado and radishes was tasty and I enjoyed the mussels frites. My daughter enjoyed the french onion soup. Our third had the griddle steak and cheese with mushrooms and enjoyed the whole sandwich - well sized for a hearty eater. We will be back.

This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, but could not satisfy us in many ways. The waiter had not been too friendly before, but seemed to be really annoyed when we were not leaving after the meal. We chatted on, had another drink and were almost the last guests who left at 9:30 pm.

Beacon Hill Bistro has a nice bar area for waiting diners that was attractive and very active. The restaurant was able to seat us for dinner promptly at the time of our reservation. The service was very attentive but not overly obtrusive. The menu included quite a range of options from burgers to gourmet entrees at a wide range of prices. The dining area offers banquets along the perimeter wall for comfortable seating and groups of varying size. Conversational noise is modest making it easy to carry on table discussions. The food arrived hot and well prepared making for a very enjoyable meal. There is a coziness to the restaurant with nice ambient lighting making for a very pleasant and pleasant dining experience. The restaurant is also a very good value for a nice, elegant and friendly Beacon Hill setting.

Great varied menu because we all wanted something different--pescararian, vegetarian and an omnivore. Cool traditional vibe, old school Boston. Great host and service. Drank delicious rose wine, oysters, hummus plate. Fatoush salad, steak frites, cod entrees. Key lime cheesecake to end. All excellent. Have missed this spot in the past but would go again next trip for sure. Also good for Christmas nvetsation.

I will never go there again. We were treated very rudely by a gentleman waiter. It was freezing and they ridiculed me for asking that they turn off the air conditioner even though it was a cool day. Rather than warm the room up slightly they lowered it to 67 degrees. The food was mediocre.

Super cute restaurant in the heart of Beacon Hill. A true neighborhood gem, it seems like a throwback to begone years of bistros in the West Village of Manhattan. The wonderful ambiance and service make up for just ok food. The portions are plentiful and the price is correct for the setting and experience. I will be back for sure.
