Unfortunately, the OpenTable app led us to believe that Beacon Hill Bistro was open for business so my party and I showed up as reserved, but the restaurant was closed for renovation. Probably should have let us know before heading all the way to Boston...bummer. I've heard good things about the Bistro.
Dined here on New Years Eve with our 3 daughters (23, 21 and 16). It is a beautiful location and has a cute little bar area. We were seated right on time and we all agreed it was a nice menu with lots of choices. We enjoyed the soups to start and all enjoyed our meals. Would definitely come back.
Food was overpriced for quality.
The food was ample and very good. We were happy we ordered just entrees given the size of the meals.
Some negatives: This is a somewhat expensive restaurant. My short ribs on polenta special was $38 while her bone-in pork loin was $32. We asked to be moved from our initial table, because the area was cold. Our server was not dressed in a manner we thought appropriate for Christmas Eve -- she was wearing a tee shirt and jeans. The restaurant was out of the only American Chardonnay they had by the bottle, a Sonoma Cutrer. We substituted a very nice Gruner Veltliner from Austria that is available by the glass (they sold us the bottle for the same price as the Sonoma Cutrer, a classy move). All in all, a pleasant if somewhat expensive Christmas Eve.
Beacon Hill Bistro is our first dinner stop when we are in Boston. Great neighborhood. Friendly atmosphere. Diverse menu. Good service. Excellent food in large portions. The Beet Salad was great. The crab cake appetizer, as a main course, was excellent, as was the Beacon Hill burger (two patties, actually). The Bistro is a very easygoing, welcoming place to eat. And, at least when we are there, most of the diners are locals.
This is what you need to improve: greet guests when they walk through the door and let them know you will attend to them in whatever time is appropriate. I had to stand there wondering where I was supposed to go... to another location in the building to engage with a hostess for the restaurant? wait at the stand near the door even though it seemed the service person was dealing with a room issue for a hotel guest? What? Also, once our food was served we weren't checked on by our waiter nearing the time a guest would be ready to leave. We had to flag him down after waiting way too long.
Great service especially after I spilled my glass of red wine - our server was great in helping us deal with the mess!
Great food, excellent service. Perfect for business casual lunch. Highly recommend.
From brunch to dinner and business in between. The Beacon Hill Bistro has wonderful food and charming bright atmosphere —the perfect neighborhood do u f spit.
I’ve had many excellent lunches at the Beacon Hill Bistro. This sadly was not one of them. Hopefully an abbetstion!
We are visiting from Australia and wanted an authentic thanksgiving experience. Very happy with the Beacon Hill Bistro the food was yummy (turkey delicious) the service was very pleasant and the atmosphere cozy. Would recommend to others
Lovely bistro in an equally lovely neighborhood. Love this restaurant! Excellent food, service and ambiance. One of my favs.
The food was good but it was way to loud to have a conversation.
Multiple and varied brunch options. Enjoyed cod cakes, poached eggs and Boston baked beans.
Dinner with friends from Europe!! Perfect!!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at The Beacon Hill Bistro. Food and service were superb. Looking forward to returning soon.
Our server was excellent. She and the staff handled a seafood allergy extremely well, which is always appreciated. The server was knowledgeable, attentive and enjoyable. Great spot on Charles street for breakfast lunch or dinner!
Had another fabulous brunch at The Bistro! Great food- great service - great ambiance! Delicious drinks - mimosas and Bloody Marys and amazing food - eggs benny, French toast and salads!
Always delicious food!
The brick chicken is too die for. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there. We would recommend this spot to anyone visiting Boston.
A nice spot on Charles Street for lunch, brunch or dinner. Cozy, reasonable and always provides good service. Menu choices are varied and one can find multiple choices that should prove enjoyable. We recently had the the house special risotto with shrimp and scallops (very tasty!), the Griddled Steak and Chese with Mushrooms sandwich (excellent combination) and the Roasted "Centercut" Cauliflower Steak (perfect for the vegetarian among us and a healthy portion). Everyone appreciated their respective choice. Wine, cocktail and beer selections are well served, too.
Will definitely return as we have done already.
Perfect Beacon Hill charm with great food, reasonable prices, and very warm / cozy ambiance. The wait staff here is very friendly and fun. My go-to spot with friends and family, usually able to get a seat.
Great accommodation for diners with allergies. They checked every dish we ordered and informed us of possible cross-contamination. Excellent service experience
Beacon Hill Bistro is consistently good with delicious food. Always great.
We waited way too long for our food. The waiter come over to our table numerous times apologising to us. When it did arrive, it was not hot and mediocre at best. We often come here on our stay's in Boston to see your daughter in college but won't be coming back. And after all that, the waiter took nothing off our bill. Just another apology (about the 5th one). Really disappointing.
Way too noisy and tables too close together. The steak frite was predictably good. The salmon was below par.
First class service; sat at end of restaurant so noise was only moderately bothersome
Great place for dinner in Boston central ovation nice atmosphere
This used to be a really lovely neighborhood place with elegant california and french influenced chefy food. It now has large portions of greasy ill-conceived and poorly prepared food and we won’t return till they mend their ways
My favorite lunch spot on Charles Street. Have been here many times. Always ample servings and friendly staff.
The atmosphere is that of a French bistro ... classy and delicious. Highly recommended for parties of
1 or 2 couples ... 3 couples at most. For larger groups, much of the intimate charm of this bistro would be lost.
Service was great. Nice and quiet. Food good.
The salads looked good. The Cobb was huge! I just did not care for my crab cake. It had a funny aftertaste.
Very good Cobb salad. Thx
We've been to the Beacon Hill Bistro a number of times over the years. I love the elegant, but lower key atmosphere. Service is usually excellent. My only critique is that the food is not as good as years past, at least in terms of overall consistency. For instance, my spouse ordered swordfish medium rare, and it arrived well-done. The streak-frites cut was fairly grisly with fat. But the fries were excellent! And, the creme brûlée was in a very large dish and about a millimeter thick (joking). It's almost as if the chef is more focused on bar food.
It has always been pretty loud at the Bistro , but not quite as a bad as other places Ive eaten . Please take service . Food just missed this time
Great little Bistro in the heart of Boston’s Beacon Hill Bay Bay!
Excellent spot all the way around. Food was delicious. Our server gets a 4 star for seeming like he didn’t really like his job, never a smile, he seemed like he did not want to be there. His service was good despite this.
Amazing Brunch!! Brioche French toast with blueberry butter was the highlight- Banana pancakes & BLT with herb butter and an egg was pretty good too - Will visit again!
