I wanted to take my wife to a romantic restaurant near the water to start 2018. I easily booked a 5:30 reservation for the same day, and boy, what a view! The hostess sat us at the table literally just feet from the edge of Waikiki beach on a glorious January evening. The sweet balmy winds blew gently thru the veranda as we enjoyed our dinner!
We started with the Mai Tais...very tasty as the sun went down. Kona abalone was our first appetizer...delicious, although I wish they were prepared in a way to appreciate the abalone a little more.
My wife had the lamb, I had the steak. My wife noticed a lot of other people ordered the lamb, and she said the crustiness of it was delightful. All the other diners who had lamb were eating it the same way as my wife...nibbling at the bone to get every last morsel of the crusty rub. My wife's Pinot Noir complimented the lamb perfectly.
My steak was cooked just right, and I had no problem devouring it! I stayed with a Mai Tai by choice, although in retrospect, a nice Cabernet might've been nice.
When we were leaving, we noticed the Moana has a little piano bar off to the side of the main lobby...We DEFINITELY will be returning to the Moana, either for a return to The Beachhouse or to hang out at the piano bar!
Inconsistent food, not commensurate with the price. My husband was served a cold $55 6oz filet, the Caesar salad was bland and ordinary. The scallop appetizer was perfectly cooked with an overly sweet cloying drizzle. The other salad was local and looked very good and apparently was. The Kampachi was tender and tasty and the other steak was just "good". The bill for 4 appetizers, 3 entrees, two Martinis, 3 glasses of wine and 2 regular coffees was $390 including tax and tip.
The room is lovely and I would go back for sunset for a drink and appetizer but not for dinner.

I had the ciopinni which was ok but not outstanding. No implements were provided to tackle the shell fish. The menu items all had a strong Asian influence but failed to offer a well prepared, simple, quality cuisine that allowed the flavour of the food th speak for itself. The staff were well informed and pleasant.
We dined here on the last night of our family vacation in Waikiki. We had a wonderful time having drinks and listening to the piano guy in the lobby. Once seated, our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. We LOVED the Maui onion soup. However, none of us (of 5) liked our entrees. (Kamachi, Chicken, Short Rib Ragu). Expensive disappointment.
Beginning to end dining experience was GREAT! However, initially as we walked to the hostess stand, she made no eye contact to greet us and was obviously overwhelmed with her job. In this kind of 5 star, high end restaurant, this is not acceptable. Didn’t feel welcomed at all, initially...
The ambiance is very beautiful. That’s the only nice thing I have to say about this restaurant. Otherwise you pay premium prices for low quality food.
Choices for kids selection is aweful. Salmon, chicken wrap, 3oz steak, sushi. The 3oz steak is $21 for kids and doesn’t come with drink or dessert. Dessert was cookie and sorbet. The cookie was a thawed oatmeal raisin cookie. Which child likes oatmeal cookie? And thawed?!! I don’t mind thawed cookie but when I pay 21+6 drink + 7 dessert = 45 for a kids dinner, I expect freshly made cookies. The whole dinner is low quality food mascaraded as high end food to justify the lavish prices they charge. I done fine dining often and let me tell you that you are better off going to Ruby’s Tuesday than this imposter of a fine dining.
Food was excellent! Didn't expect to have such a delicious meal at a hotel restaurant. Did have to send back a Mai Tai because it seemed weak. It definitely came back with booze in it.
Did the shrimp cocktail, tako, crab cakes and poke for the appetizers, NY Strip for my entree and tiramisu and a guava ice cream with strawberries (don't know what it was called as it was suggested by the server but it was good). The desert was beyond amazing! All the food was amazing! I would go back.
I have eaten here several times and it is always nice. This last time I had an awesome Venison Wellington (deer was from NZ). Very tender and tasty. It was preceded with a delicious lobster bisque and their foie gras toast. I passed on dessert. The wine selection is excellent. The Belle Glos pinot paired great with the venison. My server Dillon was a true pro...good insights on the menu and attentive, friendly service.
Beautiful historic hotel with porch and patio seating overlooking the beach. The night we had dinner, there was a talented husband and wife singer/ukulele player who were both amazing. The music was very relaxing - they played traditional Hawaiian music accompanied by a hula dancer. The service at the restaurant was also exceptional. We ordered the ahi tuna and lamb entrees - they were both good, but very expensive (I believe the lamb was $65) We also ordered the octopus appetizer - it had a smokey flavor that did not appeal to either of us. However, it was plated beautifully! Overall, a lovely place for a special occasion or romantic date!
Beautiful romantic setting for sunset dinner. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, absolute gem! Food was delicious. The only thing That was negative is the length of the table. It was on a long side so if there are two of you sitting, you would feel a little far from each other. It’s quiet enough so you would have no problem hearing each other.
Lovely spot for a special occasion dinner. We arrived early and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar with the super lovely Wade, then enjoyed a delicious dinner and the sunset views from the porch provided the perfect backdrop to our anniversary dinner. We also really enjoyed the Hawaiian musicians and the hula dancer performing in the courtyard next to the restaurant. This was the perfect end to a wonderful holiday!
Great dinner and romantic location with my significant other, thanks for the great service and great food! Loved the extra chocolate treat with our bill too! Ambience was fantastic and we sat on the patio for drinks after dinner. Will definitely come back here!! Would be nice to have more vegetarian options though, that don’t include mushrooms.
Celebrating a 6 year wedding anniversary. I came down a few hours early and attempted to buy a bottle of champagne to have at the table when my wife and I sat down. Ultimately, I was told I couldn’t do this but they would have it at my table when we sat down (which they did). Problem was it took 3 people about an hour to come to that conclusion. Pretty simple request for a $400 bottle of champagne, no?
I will say the restaurant did a great job accommodating my request to sit near the water. Ended up having to wait a little longer but their communication was excellent and we got the table we wanted.
We sat down and ordered 3 courses, well at least I thought we did? Oysters and a foie gras appetizer, a salad and a tomahawk ribeye. Our server brought out the salad, oysters and foie gras all at the same time. Maybe she wanted us to leave early? She also took this opportunity to suggest we buy another bottle of wine to go with our steak. Thanks for the tip....maybe worry about delivering the appropriate steps of service and I’ll worry about the wine pairing.
After our table was cleared of the aforementioned course it was about 45 minutes later that we saw our server again who informed us that our steak would ha e to be remade. She offered to bring us an app to tied us over so I guess we got that three courses after all. 3 shrimp not remarkable but whatever.
Our steak arrived about 15 minutes later for a grand total of an hour between the courses we ordered. This may have been the worst piece of meat I’ve ever payed for. To say under seasoned would be an understatement and it was torched, black on the outside and warm in the center. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve complained in a restaurant but I did in this case. No manager ever came over. Our server did bring us a filet for our trouble. Not sure why but it was even worse than the ribeye. We didn’t eat it or the ribeye.
All in all $780 dollars In a tourist trap. Spend your money elsewhere.
