Beach House Restaurant at Lovers Point Ratings and Reviews
It was very crowded when we got there and the hostess told us there was a 45 minute wait. OpenTable offered us a reservation spot in just 20 minutes, so we took it and it worked fine.
There was a wedding reception in a private room and that may have caused a lot of the noise. That said, it wasn't very loud given the size of the crowd. We were there well after sunset so there wasn't any view to speak of. But in the daytime or at twilight the view from here must be very nice.
The food was all well cooked and generously sized. I had the "sand dabs" ("flounder", to us East coasters) which came with a capers sauce. The sauce was very mild, though, with no real lemony taste. The waitress responded quickly to our complaints, though, and delivered a plate of lemons so we could season as desired.
The view is beautiful, the setting is wonderful, the food is reasonably priced. On the Friday night I went, the noise level was very high. The computer was not working all evening, so everyone had to come up with cash for their meals. The service was very slow because the waiter had to write out all the bills by hand. But they did give us a free appetizer.
What a disappointment! I had the pork ribs chefs special and it had been boiled and reheated and was dry and tasteless. the Salmon was also reheated and dry and tasteless. the artichoke was totally bland as was the aioli sauce served with it. I haven't had such poor food since London in the 70's 80's where everything was boiled. I can almost excuse one bad entree but the three of us were disappointed. I almost called for the chef to ask him to taste our food but just wanted to get out of there. A total shame as the location is special. We are locals and this was our first and last time eating here.
We booked this restaurant for Bob's birthday hoping for a wonderful celebration. The first encounter with the hostess was awkward as she didn't seem to have a table for us although I had made a special request. We were finally seated on a heated patio area, tucked into a corner. The waiter brought us menus but the special entree we wanted and the special dessert were both out - at 7pm on a Saturday! Well, the rest of the evening was a mixture of good and not so good foods. The arancini appetizer was tasty, but the sauce was so cold in contrast to the risotto balls. The entrees were very generous portions: Bob had the Steak and Lobster - lobster was cooked perfectly but one of the two filets was overcooked and dry. I scored with the Scallop Pot Pie - it was the best thing we had that evening. We each had a glass of chardonnay, but it was served warm so we had to wait to get it chilled. The finish was a Grand Marnier Creme Brulee we shared for dessert. It was delicious but (another but) seemed to have been done earlier and reheated unevenly as the carmelized topping was soft, not the crisp crackle we craved. Overall the service was very poor although the waiter was polite, he basically brought out the food and never checked back to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything. And lastly, no one even mentioned that it was booked for a birthday or wished Bob Happy Birthday, so maybe they aren't reading their Open Table reservations.
We had a great time eating at the Beach House. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was the best we had in Monterey. I had the clam chowder soap that I rate a 10. My salmon was cooked perfectly. So moist and seasoned just right. The key lime pie was just like you get in Florida. Tart but sweet. My wife got the sand dabs that were to die for. Needless to say, we are going back tonight!!!
Their sunset menu offers some of the best values in the Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove area. Great value, food is very good and for the crowds that the Sunset dinners bring in the service was exceptional. We were seated 5 minutes after our arrival, with an outdoor table and the ocean view was free. We can hardly wait to go back.
The Beach House at Lover's Point was a fantastic find. We were visiting Carmel by the Sea and looking for great restaurants. This meal was so exceptional, it was better than any of the restaurants we went to in Carmel--and there were some very good ones there as well. The food was so good and the portions so generous, we were stuffed when we left. Try the chorizo-goat cheese appetizer and the beef stroganoff. If you are in visiting Carmel or Monterey, take the short drive to Pacific Grove--it is well worth it!
Had reservations at 5:30 PM on a Sat nite. Seated at 5:34...drinks and order taken by 5:40...food served 5 minutes later. Great food and creatively prepared. Would recommend to anyone, but plan on waiting 30-45 mins if you don't have a reservation -- and don't be surprised if the bar is full as well.
We specifically mentioned we were there for our anniversary so we wanted a table outside with a view and were willing to wait. We weren't expecting anything outside of that and good thing because our server never acknowledged our special day. When I said I was dairy intolerant, the server visibly got annoyed and could only make TWO recommendations on the whole menu. We were younger than most patrons and our server treated us as if we were poor people who wouldn't tip (side note: we both worked in hospitality and tip above average but not this night). Everyone around us was "Sir" and "Ma'am" but not us. This experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth but thankfully the amazing view from our table made up for it.
Location was awesome with Ocean view. Comfortable chairs and the noise level was quiet enough for conversation. Food was OK. (my chicken was a little dry & the butternut squash was not cooked enough for my taste). However the Sunset specials were a great value. Service was excellent. I would eat there again but probably order something different.
The food was good, but it did not make up for the awful service. It took over an hour to get our food after we ordered it. Our food was delayed because a group of about 20 received their meals even though we ordered before they ordered their food. The Caesar salad was terrible.
Had an open table reservation, got there 10 minutes before, waited another 30 minutes while others were seated, including people who walked in without a reservation. When we spoke up, it was apparent the hostess had forgotten to seat us. While the food was good and our waitress was attentive, it just put the experience off to a negative start.
