Excellent service, wonderful short rib and very good cod, but we were the only customers, which resulted in a bit of a, uneasy feeling?
We there on a Friday night from 6:45. Only people there!
The waiter was great company
Not sure why so sparse a crowd for Saturday brunch good food, good service, nice location.
The location is great but the food was so so. The menu was not the same as what I saw on the web site
Restaurant is in a great location, and the patio is great for a view of Engiish Bay and people walking by. Food quality was pretty good, but portions were a tad small, especially since the prices were bumped a little because it was fireworks night. Also, menu had been cut back for the evening because of the event, but this wasn't mentioned ahead of time on the website. Service was good, but strained with the big crowd - still overall a good dining experience. The cocktail specials were well made.
The menus was only happy hour but then other people were getting supper , I guess it wasn’t explained the best . But location was great
Just OK overall- views only visible from the patio, no views from indoors. Short menu- about 1/3 not available on the day. Approx 45 min wait for food even though restaurant was empty. Food was OK.
Food was good but service was terrible. I had to wait 20 minutes for my orange juice and reminded them a few times before I got it. And it's not like it's fresh squeezed, cos I saw them pour it out of a jug. We also asked if the door to the patio could be shut (it was a very windy day and we were seated inside, so wanted to be more protected from the cold wind) they said yes. In practice though, it was mostly kept open. Should have just told us they can't shut it, so we could have moved.
You're paying to be close to English Bay, that's it! Food is tasty, but nothing amazing. I think you're mostly paying for location. Which is an excellent location! :)
It was nice and quiet not too many people there. There are no baby change tables, I had to change my baby on a chair in the restaurant. Washrooms are small but the restaurant should find a solution. Service was great. Food was good. Menu changes, I was looking forward to the brownie but it wasn’t on the menu as it changed. It was a good experience, and great view outside
Drinks were good and food was great. Small menu but great value for money.
First visit and weren't sure what to expect but we're very pleasantly surprised. Great view and attentive waiter. While the menu is not extensive the food was wonderful and the bartender has some terrific takes on some very special drinks. Highly recommended.
Have only ever had great experiences at the Cafe! 10/10 would recommend!
Other than being a tad disorganized at the begin with reservations misunderstandings, everything went well after that. Their krafts of Mimosa for $10 are a great deal! We each had soemthing different. I had the classic benny. We also ordered Salmon benny and croque monsieur. The Americano coffee was better than the drip. Not bitter. Perfect water ratio to coffee.
I will go again for sure!
Had a terrible brunch here on Mother's Day but...after writing an email to the Manager they are going to send me a gift certificate which I will use. I will rewrite this review after I go there one more time but still be aware it was not a pleasant experience.
Went back for dinner on a comp from the manager. Service was great this time but the food was terrible again. Lobster boiled to the point of dryness, no flavor of lobster period. Marinara seems like it came ouf of a cheap can. Mussels/clams also boiled to death, no seasoning or flavor. Dessert was cold inside the pastry wrapper. Honestly the chef needs to be replaced. If you're going to call yourself a fine dining restaurant, then you need a great chef. I will never go there again even for free. Too many great restaurants in the West End to bother with this nightmare. Also it was 7pm and there were 4 people in this restaurant, that says it all.
Food was great, the menu was limited for brunch.
The tuna special with quinoa was light and very tender. I really enjoyed its texture.
The elk appetizer is very tender and flavorful.
The drinks here are pretty good.
We tried most of the cocktails on the menu while waiting for different courses of our food.
The elk appetizer is very tender.
The apple crumble is innovative.
We enjoyed deliciously tender short rib. I felt the yams were a little too sweet. The dish came with cauliflower, but I would have served it with green beans to be more balanced with the yams.
Food was good but restaurant not full on a Friday night and ambience lacking.
Unfortunately, you were only presenting a Dine Out menu.
Portions were small for the price. The kitchen plated on cold plates which cooled the food prematurely.
With the restaurant less than half full having a bowl of risotto arrive with the surface already developing a skin was disappointing.
The flavors were good, not mind blowing.
The staff claimed that the restricted menu was due to the ‘small kitchen size’... really??? So when you are featuring your full menu, do you struggle to produce those items?
Not certain I will return to witness disappointment again.
My dine out experience was amazing!
It was a great experience. The food and the service was amazing!
It was overall pretty good, food was interesting. Great location and great bar.
It was really great. The food was so well pared in flavours. All the dishes ordered were perfect. We came for dine out and the quality of the food was a steal for the price of dinner. Would really recommend for a lovely date night
I went to the Beach Bay Cafe as part of Dine Out Vancouver. The service was great and the food was excellent. Perhaps a bit more variety in wine list would be an asset, but what we chose was fine.
When we made the reservation we were not told it was only the "dine out vancouver" menu. I was not very impressed but gave it a shot. I ordered the arctic char and my fiancé ordered the seafood risotto with squid ink. The char was overcooked and the risotto had way too much squid ink, that's all you could taste. I was not impressed with anything we had. This used to be one of my favorite little gems but apparently their has been a chef change. Needless to say I won't be going back, such a shame
Food quality is good, but portion is small. Also, this is $30 dineout, but in the end they charge $35 for the short rib we picked ( but this is shown in the $30 dineout menu)
We have to eat Ramen afterwards !
The food & ambiance was not bad but sadly everytime a new restaurant opens on Denman st or the Westend, they never take into consideration the demographics of the area. They don't do their research. There is a high population of seniors, foreign exchange students, homeless, tourists (more commonly in the summer) & a sprinkling of middle income people in this community. Unfortunately, there's not a great demand for a higher end restaurant in this area. The Boathouse is a main stay but that's about it. I like the concept but it would do better in an area like Yaletown where it leans more to that demographic. Sadly, I don't see them lasting. They barely have anyone in there half the time.
Great location. Casual dining spot with a great view and nice menu selection.
excelente cocina y buen ambiente. Ideal para cenar con amigos o en familia
We had a really delicious meal! The food and service were both excellent and we would recommend the restaurant.
We spent a lovely evening at this cute neighborhood restaurant, the food was really good, the portions were fair and the service was very professional, attentive and nice. I really wanter to have beef tartar for dinner as i saw it on the menu before our visit, but they had just changed their menu and didn’t have tartar anymore. Nevertheless our waiter asked the chef, and exceptionally I could enjoy their amazing beef tartar! Will definitely come back!
We had a wonderful weekend brunch with a beautiful view! The service went above and beyond, they even made us up a delicious homemade syrup when they had run out of maple syrup. Our meals were delicious and carefully prepared, right down to the side dishes and garnish. We had a 10/10 experience, thank you!
Very friendly Cafe and a beautiful location. There is a small outdoor seating area overlooking English Bay and a quirky little park. We had the cod fish and chips which were very fresh and delicious. It was served with an adequate amount of tartar sauce and a small salad. They also do take out orders of the fish and chips which would be nice to do if picnicking on the beach or in nearby Stanley Park.
The view was incredible. Go for the sunset. The cuisine had an interesting twist and was delicious!
Came here for my mother's birthday they treated us like we were the only people in the restaurant. Great cocktails and the food was delicious and beautifully plated.
We have dined here a few times, and we're always surprised that it isn't busier. The food is great, so is the service. The place should be much busier. I hope this recommendation helps.
The food was good. The service outstanding. Seafood was fresh and tasty.
Very expensive and although the quality was good we felt we were paying mostly for the location. In the 7-9 period when we were there, there were only a few other diners. We would not return, given other better choices in the area.
Dinner was good, not great. But the deconstructed lemon meringue dessert was phenomenal.
