Bazin's on Church Ratings and Reviews
The soup was served cold. The dessert which was a warm apple pie was also served cold. Instead of bringing a fresh cup of coffee, on two occasions the waiter merely poured hot coffee on top of the cold even when conveyed that it was cold. Of two persons waiting our table, one never smiled and grunted when asked for something.
I have been to this restaurant in the past and had a nice experience. I don’t know if it has changed or if it was an off day - but this was a disappointment and I doubt I will go back. There are plenty of good restaurants in the town and I will not pay to have such basics not attended to.
A nice meal. Service was good. The restaurant was not too crowded on a Tuesday at 6pm. Appetizers -Jumbo lump crab spring roll, warm olives, and Caesar salad. Entres of salmon, monkfish, scallops and pork. Scallop special was very good. Salmon and pork were good and monkfish was a little chewy. Overall good experience, but nothing to “wow” our diners or make you excited to return.
Meal was fine. Had the meatballs for appetizer, not bad, the eggs was a nice addition. I had the monkfish for dinner, cooked nicely but really lacked any flavor. Dish was overall very bland. Boyfriend had the scallop special, said scallops were over cooked, flavor was just okay. Service was mediocre.
Food was excellent! Ambiance was great! The only problem was we had to literally ask for a booster seat 4 times before getting one for our 22 month old we had with us while we stood standing holding him anticipating the booster seat over and over.. We had to motion the waiter over ask to order and also ask for the check becasue he never came back to our table or 20 minutes would go by without him doing so..I would still go again and recommend to others but they are not very kid friendly so perhaps brunch with children should be somewhere else ...
Basin's continues to be the best Restaurant in the Vienna area, and is a great dining option. The food is always excellent and creative. The ownership is "hands-on" and it shows... especially in the kitchen. The bar is fun, and the drinks, wine and beer lists are quality. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
What is there not to like about Bazin's on Church! Great atmosphere, food is fabulous with great selections and daily specials. The service is quick, attentive and very friendly. We love coming here whether it is lunch, meet friends for dinner or enjoy Happy Hour.
Our table was a 2-seater with an unfortunate location next to a wall which made us feel a bit crammed, but we were there for New Year's Eve so I know they were trying to serve as many people as possible. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and we loved the ambiance. We'll definitely go back (though request a different table).
Had a very upsetting experience on Christmas Eve at this former favorite restaurant. Made reservations on Nov. 6th (six weeks ahead). Two days before our dinner, we were informed that our reservation was moved "next door". We were NOT given a choice or options. The woman insisted that it was the same restaurant and same kitchen, just next door. Since we park in the handicapped parking in the back (mother is 93 yrs old and uses a walker), I asked how do we get to "next door" from this area. Was brusquely told to "just go in the door next to Bazin's back door". When we arrived, this back door area was filled with discarded boxes and what looked like trash. I asked the kitchen worker how we were supposed to walk through this and he said that we should enter Bazin's back door and go through to the front. We did and expected all tables to be filled. To our surprise, the place was completely empty with the exception of several staff standing around waiting for diners to arrive. I asked why we were moved, but no one could give me an answer. We had to walk from the back door out the front door, down the front sidewalk and enter Bazin's Next Door (three times as far for my mother to walk). We were seated in a cold, drafty area at table crammed next to a busy work area (felt like we had to keep our elbows in to keep them from getting bumped). I asked again why we were moved since the dining room was empty. Was told it was"easier and less confusing", but they would let mgmt know that we wished to talk to someone. A woman did venture over (I'm sure it was the same one who called) but avoided talking to us. When we left, we had to make the same trek back through two sets of doors (difficult with a walker) and walk the length of Bazin's to exit the back door to the handicapped parking. A host actually thought we came to dine and tried to escort us to an empty table! We would have been better off if our food was put in a paper bag and eaten at home. Will never return.
Our service was not good. It took a long time to order drinks and even longer to receive them. The server was unresponsive to the few simple requests we made. I didn’t think the food was as good as previous visits. It was just an average dinner experience.
Entrees were okay but not special. Pork three ways was over cooked and there was too much sauce. Apps were good. Enjoyed the crab spring roll. Service was average. Maybe it was a rookie Server and not the “first string” so I won’t knock the restaurant. (Example the Server had to go find a beer list for the 6 beers they sell and the person delivering he food had to ask who ordered what. A good server will note which person ordered which dish)
It has probably been two years since I last visited the restaurant and it was most disappointing.
Less than professional in the phone contact as well as the greet staff. Entrees served before appetizers were finished with a half hearted apology from the wait staff.
Food was just average...hardly what I remembered or expected.
I would want to see a very good review before returning.
I have been going to Bazin's on Church for years and was excited to take my friend there for our Holiday celebration dinner. Unfortunately I was very disappointed this time. I don't know if the chef has changed or it was a bad night but the food was not very good and not what I've expected from Bazin's. We ordered crispy brussel sprouts with bacon and a balsamic dressing. They were everything but crispy :( and it tasted like the chef used soy sauce instead of balsamic vinegar.
I ordered mushroom crusted baked cod for my dinner and it was not mushroom crusted. I believe there were a few sauted mushrooms on top though. But the cod was so overcooked it was crunchy.
I was also very disappointed in the service. Our server was trying to rush us the entire meal and the restaurant was not full-by any means-nor were people waiting. He ignored us throughout the dinner and brought our check well before we were done.
Overall I'm incredibly disappointed in one of my favorite restaurants :(
Disappointing!! Have been to Bazin’s MANY times over the years and have always loved it...until this time!! Crab and corn chowder was all potato with VERY little crab or corn. It was not particularly warm. The gnocchi with bolognese had no flavor! The waiter was uncaring and distant. Won’t be back anytime soon!!
I have been to Bazins on Church a few times throughout the years. We went for the Thanksgiving Dinner just a couple of days ago with other family members - we were in agreement with the following:
1. The Thanksgiving menu that was posted on their website up through the morning of Thanksgiving was different than the menu presented to us at the table. This was not the end of the world, but it was a bit irritating - there were a couple of items on the online menu I wanted and was looking forward to that were not offered.
2. Everyone at the table wanted iced tea. The server said they were all out of tea! I have never been to a restaurant that did not have tea. When you are paying $42 a person I would hope they would have someone run out and get some tea bags!
3. The jumbo lump crab chowder served as part of the Thanksgiving dinner had no flavor and I could not find any crab. Just potatoes. The fall salad did not have blue cheese on it as it stated on the menu - not a lot of flavor there either.
4. Food took quite a while to get to us - we had to ask for bread and we were the only ones who did not have a water pitcher on our table.
1. Very nice ambiance
2. The turkey was really wonderful - very moist. The cranberry relish was perfect - could have had more green beans on the plate, but overall the turkey entree was very good.
3. The pumpkin cheesecake was absolutely incredible!!
4. We were seated very quickly.
5. My sister ordered the baked cod entree with the risotto and it was really good - I had a bite of it.
Quiet corner table by windows allowed for enjoyable dinner conversation. For size of restaurant and extremely busy/crowded evening, noise level was excellent. GOOD sound proofing tiles! Staff was attentive, but not overly so. Sea bass with maple/miso sauce was delicious. Duck was superb. Very good beer and wine selections. Parking lot under restaurant is a PLUS! Would definitely return!
Beautiful menu highlighting seasonal variety. There were eight of us & we shared our delicious bites from beets & oysters to duck, monk fish & short ribs. The unique cocktails, tasty sides & surprising desserts made for a memorable meal.
Additionally, one would be hard pressed to find better service or a friendlier wait staff than Bazin’s!! Gabriela was OUTSTANDING!!
This is always one of our go-to restaurants. We live fairly close by so that makes it convenient, but why we really go is because of the food. There's always something new to try and it's always good. This time I had the veal and crispy fried eggplant. It was just wonderful. And I never missed their dessert. The problem is choosing which one. They have elevated the ice cream sundse to new levels and it's so hard for me to resist that.
The food was lovely and service attentive. Our group of 4 had the shrimp appetizer, eggroll appetizer and three different fish entrees: the salmon, monkfish, and branzino. The monkfish had a lovely lobster sauce on it, and was really fresh tasting, generous, and well prepared. We all loved the shrimp appetizer and someone said they thought it was the best shrimp he'd ever had! We were able to get our favorite wine, Pouilly-Fuisse, and it was great, too. It was the first time any of us had been there, and all really enjoyed it. It's not cheap, but we had a wonderful time and the food was really excellent, so we all enjoyed it.
