Bazin's on Church

Easily the worst experience I've ever had at this restaurant. We waited 20 minutes to be seated after our reservation, and were promptly ignored for another 20. We had to ask for bread THREE times to even get it, and it came out so toasted it was hard to eat. The person I was eating with got their appetizer and I was told that they were out of mine. So there's another 20 minutes. We then waited 40 minutes to get our entree. My steak was COMPLETELY overcooked but since we had tickets I couldn't wait for it to be done properly. Meanwhile, the table that sat 30 minutes after us was done eating by the time we even got our entrees. Terrible experience here, I doubt I will go back. Food is overpriced, portions are too small, and the service was already not that great and its getting worse. It's like this place knows its the best place in Vienna and doesn't care anymore. Well, I don't care to go there ever again. A real shame.
> than 10 min to get greeted. Waiter was a “ping ponger” (does one task for one table and then heads back to bar/register/kitchen, then back and forth). Wait staff working a Friday night need to be able to touch base - even if through eye contact - with all tables when they swing through their station if not Service suffers.
Food was thoughtful and tasty. Plenty on the menu we want to try so we will be back and hope for a better server next time.
It has been years since I have been to Bazin's and they are just as great as when I was a regular. The cod was cooked to perfection. Great service too!
Wonderful brunch last Sunday. I loved the little extra touches like steamed milk for my coffee, and a gratis appetizer. Service was excellent especially for being so attentive to my spouse’s requests for extra water. The Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries were beautiful and ever so tasty. I plan to return as I very much enjoy brunches.
My dinner partner and I were very pleased with the quality of the food (veal Milanese) and wine. As usual, the service was excellent and friendly!
We had not been here in a couple of years and it was excellent, better than we remembered.
Fun place for a special occasion. Food was delicious and it was family friendly especially at an earlier time on Sunday night.
As always, a perfect dining experience was had!
Excellent as alway. The wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The Mediterranean style dishes (stuffed flounder and veal Milanese) presented as well as they tasted. The wine list is extensive with a large selection of "by the glass" wines. It was a bit noisey but that was to be expected given the vibrant bar patronage on a Friday night.
I had gone to Bazin's years ago with my family and did not like it at all. On this occasion, my wife and I were using a gift card we had been given and we were delightfully surprised with the experience.
The food was excellent, very tasteful. The presentation was also excellent and served hot from the kitchen.
No one should go to Bazin's expecting a quiet atmosphere. It is a noisy restaurant...in large measure due to the crowd of guests that are always there; plus having the bar right in the dining area. I remember that from my first visit. But that said, the quality of the food and service will bring us back.
When this place first opened, it was amazing. We'd go there about once a month. As a true foodie, I'd have given it about a 7 or 8 out of 10 with the ambiance and service comparable in quality. (The Inn at Little Washington being a 10 overall). I'm considered a harsh critic.
Then, over the course of several years, the service crept down to about a 5-6 . Soon after, the food quality also descended to those lower numbers.
We'd heard rumors that the owner/chef had taken it up a notch, but were skeptical. It took nearly 2 years to convince my husband to give it another try. I'd say the food is back up to a 7 or 8. The ambiance is scaled back considerably, but the service was pretty good 6 or 7 out of 10.
We will be back, and we will bring friends again.
The food and service at Bazin's is outstanding. We will be back!
Excellent jazz brunch on a Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend. The food was delicious - we had the short rib hash and the country biscuit eggs benedict. The dirty bloody mary was just right and large in size. A surprise treat was the jazz combo that played music while we dined. Very special day!
The live band was a good idea and they were talented but too loud to allow for conversation.
We took our french exchange student to Bazin's on Saturday night. The food was great. The noise level was a bit high and both my family and she had problems hearing each other. I think we should have taken her at brunch as it is less noisy. It was fine for us but with the language accents, it was hard for everyone to understand.
This restaurant is very pretty. I got the Chilean sea bass. It was okay. Nothing spectacular.
The waiter was wonderful. Would I go back? Probably not. There are too many wonderful restaurants in the area !!
The lamb steak was very tough- hardly chewable. We asked for gin martinis. The bartender suggested a special gin from Maine. I couldn’t even drink the martini- the gin from Maine has honey in it. Had I known this, I never would have ordered it for a martini. A martini should be salty, not sweet. When asked about the drinks, I said that I didn’t like it at all and wasn’t going to drink it. The bartender just smiled.
great comfortable place for group gatherings; we enjoyed the food and wine and the conversation among old friends who had not met for a couple years
Impossible to park. Underground parking garage was so crowded I couldn't get out once I went down the ramp. I had to back up a very steep hill even to get out. Circled around the neighborhood for 15 minutes looking for a parking space. Wait service was mediocre. My salmon salad, which I order at every restaurant I ever go to, was mediocre at best. Nothing exciting here. I think I read a review saying the coffee here was excellent. Well, I got decaf coffee and it tasted like it had been sitting there for 4 hours. The waiter never came back to ask if I wanted a refill, which was okay since I wouldn't have gotten one anyway. However it would have been nice if he had asked.
Bazin's never disappoints! Awseome meal and friendly service!
This was my first visit to Bazin's on Church, celebrating my birthday. Parking is underground at the building with a short walk up stairs to the restaurant but we were fortunate to find on-street parking directly in front of the building. The restaurant has somewhat limited space so the tables are placed close together and while this didn't interfere greatly with our conversation, those who want a more intimate environment may need to consider this. The food was very good, nicely prepared and of generous portions. I ordered the mushroom and garlic-crusted Atlantic salmon with tomato orzo and my dinner companion ordered the hanger steak, grilled just as he likes it. We shared an appetizer of crispy oysters on pureed spinach which was tasty.
Changes I would recommend:
(1) The complimentary toasted bread offered on the table should be much better. I found it to be bland, dry and with no flavor.
(2) Salt and pepper shakers should be available on every table. While I did not need to season my dish other people have different tastes. I watched as one salt and pepper grinder was moved from table-to-table by the waiter, as people requested them. This gives an odd optic.
(3) Have a greeter (host/hostess) thank people as they leave the restaurant. This leaves a lasting positive impression.
One last important recommendation: Pay attention to "special occasion" notices on the on-line reservations. My date was aware of the complimentary birthday dessert offered by Bazin's and made note of this when making his on-line reservation. However, no birthday dessert offer was made by the waiter although several tables around us enjoyed a complimentary dessert. People at these tables likely told the waiter it was a birthday celebration, but we felt that our on-line notification should have been "flagged" accordingly. We decided not to say anything and left without dessert. It's small details like these that separate a good restaurant from a top-notch one.
Outstanding food, excellent service (and the food was as fast as it was delicious), and wonderful atmosphere. This restaurant was a surprise find. We will definitely return!
The service and ambiance was great. Unfortunately the dish which my husband and I were looking so forward to was overly salty and not how we remembered it tasting. That kind of put a damper on our excitement. Otherwise the appetizer, drinks and dessert were awesome.
The food was burnt and hard - waiter should have never brought it out - and it wasn’t crowded. You could tell they had it under a warmer a long time.
They did fix it right away - but it shouldn’t have happened.
Food was ok.
The monkfish was fantastic!
This is our favorite special occasion restaurant, only complaint is that wait staff kept trying to rush us by talking plates before we finished. This has never happened before and hopefully a one time distraction.
Never left Bazin without satisfaction on the food, service and general ambience of the restaurant. As a retired member of the food business, having 30 yrs. of experience, food and restaurants have always been one of my main entertainment interests. Visited a good number of area's great restaurants, but always rely on Bazin's for a solid experience.
My husband had the flank steak and I ordered the maple miso sea bass - both entrees were delicious. Enjoyed every bite and complemented the Chateau Margaux that we had brought from our own collection. Love Patrick and Julie Bazin and their wonderful staff!
Consistently excellent service and food. Chopped salad the perfect size for a starter and fresh flavors. Filet cooked medium rare to perfection.
Great service, excellent food, Very popular, a wonderful evening.
Excellent food, one of our favorite restaurants. The service is usually great. This server (O.) might have been new. Brought the wrong steak and didn’t know much about the menu or drinks.
Great food but very crowded and pretty loud.
Valentine's Day dinner on 2/14/2019. Festive ambiance, excellent service and delicious food. Noteworthy: filet mignon, perfectly cooked; broccolini frito; scallops; chocolate dessert plate;
Negroni cocktail and Malbec wine. We will tell others about Bazin's and we will return!
Food was great. Good wine list. Overall a great place to done for Valentines Day.
We have dined at Bazin's on Church many times and as always we were very happy with out Valentine's evening. The Chilean Sea Bass was over the top excellent and the Filet was perfect. You should keep in mind that dining at Bazin's can range from mid to higher cost depending on your menu choices. It does seem the better selection carry a higher price. They have an extensive wine list so finding a good wine is not an issue. We will be returning again soon.
Appetizers were novel and quite tasty, the Chilean sea bass and Cod were flavorful and at the perfect temperature.
My friend and I visited for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised that they had a Winter Bistro menu similar to Restaurant Week - 3 courses for $22. We ordered different items but all were fabulous! I had the Butternut Squash Soup, Roasted Pork Loin and Vanilla Creme Brûlée while my friend had the Parmesan Baked Cauliflower, Tagliatelle Bolognese and Flourless Chocolate Cake. All items were fabulous and service was great. I highly recommend Bazin’s!
Love coming into your place. Our waiter was wonderful! See you soon!
