A great find! Parking was easy and staff was friendly and knowledgeable about menu and beer choices.
Wonderful atmosphere and service. Such a pretty place. Felt like I was in Europe! The food and drinks were great too!
We enjoyed our visit very much. The waitress, while new, was very attentive and answered every question we had, even when she had to go find someone to help her with the answer. While we didn't use them, the beer taps at the table were quite the novelty! The beers on tap at the table simply weren't ones that interested us. The crazy tater tot appetizer was amazing!!! The reubens were not quite up to expectations for a german restaurant - light on ingredients, but the cheeseburger and BLT were great. The most amazing meal was the chicken breast dish which came out as a 1/2 chicken dish. It was quite delicious! We also enjoyed the pretzel ball and chocolate cake desserts. We enjoyed the variety of beer options too. The most disconcerting thing was the amount of noise. We understand about sports bars feeling the need to have the volume turned up, but there were only a few tables inside with people. The excessive volume for the basketball game going on in the background was quite distracting. Our waitress was kind enough to ask to turn it down - which resulted in a slight reduction in volume. If our allergies weren't so bad this spring, we would have opted to sit outside where the sound was not as bad. Would we go back? Yes. There are not enough negatives to keep me from wanting to go back and try more beers and more items off the menu - I recommend you give it a try, especially if you are a sports fan!
We didn’t receive a brunch menu, so wasn’t aware there was a separate one until after we got our food. Our server consistently forgot to bring us what we needed and didn’t take our order until we had already eaten our appetizer.
Loved this place. Wide menu. Excellent patio and inside atmosphere. The service was exceptional. Beer selection was wide and varied. Will definitely be back. It's a hidden jewel.
Food & drinks very tasty, really cool atmosphere, great service!
Great service. Fast and pleasant. Food was delicious.
My first time having brunch. Great staff. Great service. Amazing food! Just moved here and will definitely be coming back with friends to have a brunch again.
We were in Charleston for the Super Bowl. The Bay Street Biergarten was highly recommended by a family member. We were NOT disappointed. The food was good, there were plenty of TVs to watch the game and the atmosphere was wonderful. Our waitress Sara(h) was incredible. She was not phased by anything we threw at her. If you have a chance to visit, don't let it go by.
Food not to our liking. The mussels were dry and bathed in a thick pesto sauce. The pierogies were deep fried. The beer was good.
This is a great 20s crowd spot with something like 70 beers on tap! Food was above average but I would say it's a great meeting spot for young people! Not highly German authentic cuisine. Good service and easy to get to! A beer lovers paradise !
The bar tender was not good! He ignored me as he had conversation with other employees, he didn't want to give me nor the other guest a lime in our drinks. Young guy, black hair.
The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun and lively. We were there on a college football Saturday, but it was not too obnoxious to enjoy dinner . Yummy potato salad and bratwurst. I would not expect anything less from Clemson grads.
A great place to have a evening out with friends! Food was great and no one had an issue with their orders. The beer selection was outstanding!
Appetizers very pricey for what you get. Food was excellent. Server was not really attentive. Came and handed us bill before asking if there was anything we would like. I for one wanted something else to drink. We had to ask her her name. It just felt uncomfortable. Put a damper on an otherwise nice meal.
Great food selection. Interesting items I've never seen on the menu. Food tasted great and was presented well. I really enjoyed this place all around.
Great food, staff and beer, nice spot in Charleston. Enjoyed different fiid options, great staff and beer! Highly recomnend for all.
Went to see see The Midnight City band play live. As always, great service, great food, great beer selection. I love that their beer of month deal is a local favorite... Palmetto Brewing Huger Street IPA. Always love coming to the Biergarten!
We had reservations asked for a table with beer dispensers their were 3 open they wouldn't let us sit there because we weren't a party of 6 or more. We were 4 adults who drink beer. They sat a family with 3 small children they never used the in table beer dispensers we complained to waitress who said sorry and it was management policy and asked the host when we fist sat. They definitely have management issues. They actually place is very nice with a great outdoor set up. I would not go here again but if I could do it all over again I would of sat outside even though it was super hot and sat at cool outside bar.
Good portions. Original choices. Best hot pretzel - soft and chewy, but crusty on the outside, with great taste of beer and yeast. Yummy fried pimento cheese with hot bacon jam too!
Had live music, and they were very talented, but it was way too loud for dining, and we could barely hear each other.
Out waitress had too many tables and it took her a good while to get back to us, for additional drinks, etc. Apparently everyone sat in her section all at once , and another server should have assisted.
Good food but the name "biergarten" implies German cuisine. There may be some influence but it is more American than German which was somewhat disappointing. I found it to be too loud to enjoy conversation. However, the locals really seemed to enjoy it. I ordered the schnitzel with spaetzle rather than potatoes. The flavor was good but had a bit too much breading. The service was very good. Friendly staff and quick.
I had been here a few times for dinner, drinks, and watching sports, and decided to try brunch. I loved that they offer brunch reservations, as not everywhere in Charleston does. The food was delicious! We got the chicken and waffles and the biscuits and gravy. It may not sound monumental, but the way they prepare both was unique and super tasty! I also got a side biscuit, and have to say their berry vodka jam is amazing! The portions were good for us, but if you're not a 5'1" runner and a man whose stomach has been permanently shrunk by high school wrestling, the portions may not be big enough for you.
For anyone with a passion for beer, this is a really cool place with beer taps at many tables that will allow you to draw your own. The food was nice, but the beer and selection was really good.
Service was very slow. Took approximately 45 minutes for food to arrive.
All four meals were barely warm when they finally arrived at the table.
Portions were very large but the quality of the food was "just OK".
Tasty German-esque food in a fun environment and on-table on-demand taps make this place a fun visit every time I'm in Charleston.
The chicken sandwich and pork schnitzel were dry, tough, and cold. Our waitress was nice and pleasant but disappeared. Various Nirvana and Eminem music playing VERY loud. It made it very difficult to hear my 70 year old in-laws during our 7:00 dinner.
Sat outside. Appetizers were great. Beers were great. Enjoyed this place.
Appetizer came out cold. Waitress was rarely seen. Really poor service even though the restaurant was not busy. Manager did apologize for cold food and took it off the bill.
Amazing food beer selection and great atmosphere . Try the fried pimento cheese bites with bacon jelly to die for!
The taps at each table and the tablet.
Was my first visit. Nobody took the time to explain the tap system or how the beer cards work. I ordered the charcuterie plate and the manager just set it down and never explained what the meat or cheeses were.
Wife had a burger. Was cooked perfectly, fries were good
I had the Pork Schnitzel sandwich. Pork was good but way too much mustard. Potato salad wasn't the best, I'd skip it.
Great beer and beer food and friendly service. The inside is nice for families. The outside is nice for partiers. The prices were a bit steep, but it is downtown Charleston after all. Parking was parking was quite easy.
Fried shrimp were good. The meatloaf was dry.
Ordered a bunch of appetizers and drinks with friends on a night out. Everything was great! Highlights were the pretzel bombs, tator tots, and pimento cheese bites with bacon jam! Will definitely be back!
This is always my go to place in Charleston. The food, beer selection, and service is always great. I recently had my birthday party there with over 40 guests and it went smoothly. There is always a good vibe there, and it is a great place to watch a game.
The food was delicious! Great beer as usual and the best service!
A really nice Biergarten that is more modern/unique than traditional. One of my favorite menu items was the pretzel bombs (stuffed with cheese & brat). My husbands side of Brussels was much better than my spatzle which was more of a cheese soup. The beer list was great and they had lots of local beers and a few German beers. The outdoor space looked incredible but it was too cold for us to hang out. I would definitely head back again next time I'm in town.
We went here for dinner with friends in town for the weekend. The menu was a little limited and some things were not labeled clearly. I ordered the catfish and a friend ordered the chicken and we were not aware that both were sandwiches. My husband and other friend ordered the veal schnitzel. They said it was good, but way too much fried breading on the veal and they both peeled a lot of it off. Our waitress was very personable and attentive. Four of us split one order of German chocolate cake (the ONLY dessert offered), and we couldn't finish it! Not a bad place; not sure if I would hurry to go back.
