The waiter gave me a regular coffee instead of decaf. This is important to those of us who don't do well with caffeine. I couldn't sleep until 2 am.
Just a fine meal I wouldn’t return
I used to really enjoy coming here. Sadly, the menu has been changed a LOT since my last visit. Far too much fried food on it now, or a hamburger, and the salad I had was much smaller than others served before. Even with chicken, it was not a meal's worth.
Really enjoyed our meal, wine and terrific service at Bay Grille & Bar. Fun restaurant with beautiful view and ambiance.
The waiter roger was awesome and very nice. Real friendly! Food was great too
I had the crab cakes for appetizers and salmon & angel hair pasta. I'm so glad I was able to take a crab cake and half of my salmon dish home. It was excellent as a left over.
This place is good to run way from East Bay hot weather have a margarita on the rocks, cooling off by getting cold breeze and enjoy great sunset and marina boats view...Get your jacket just in case...
Next to that Bay Grill & Bar you'll see Events & Meetings area where people celebrates they BD's and anniversaries, so you can enjoy that show watching they funny dancing's behind the glass. Some entertainment for you if you'll get really bored.
Ordered the fish tacos and the cabbage was visibly black, as if it was quite old.
The grilled ribeye was well cooked but tasteless.
We chose it as a central location for three families to meet up. One from Sonoma County, one from Benicia and one fromSan Benito county, South of San Jose. We did not do the brunch and so the restaurant had quieted down and it was ideal.
I stayed here once for a meeting and a fire alarm went off in the middle of the night for acouple hours. It was terrible.
However, it was perfect for the Father's Day gathering we had and we all enjoyed the gorgeous setting. The food was very good and the staff had a positive attitude and were helpful. They were enjoyable, talkative (when invited into the conversation) people to have around. A wonderful day with travelers coming a long way, everyone helped make it all work out. Thank you.
Unfortunately, the food isn't as good as it used to be with lox and bagels noticeably no longer available on the buffet (one of our favorites). Also, I spent 30 mins trying to call and talk to a live person to find out the times on Father's day brunch, and got transferred to recordings or voicemail 7 or 8 times. Too bad, this was one of our favorite spots in the past. View is still great and wait staff very nice.
We dined here for the Mother's Day Brunch. We have been here before for Mother's Day over 8 year's ago. Boy, things have changed. It was not as crowded as before, which was a good thing. The ambiance and scenery was excellent, of course. However, the actual brunch was not so great. A smaller selection. Not much of a breakfast selection except omelets, bacon, and sausages. No toast, waffles, etc. The salad bar was very small and not enough variety. The lettuce was not that fresh. The lunch was just okay. Not enough variety. The desserts were horrible and tasted stale and hard. The price for Mother's day was $59 for adult and $29 for children. Normally for Mother's day, you have the kids with you, so not a good spot for kids as selection does not cater to them. Overall, it was an OK experience. I would recommend without kids and not high expectations. However, I do not plan to return anytime soon nor for a Mother's Day Brunch.
I took my mom there for Mother's Day. Despite the scaled back menu selection and minus the table cloth, the food and service was very good.
The ambiance is relaxing. Gorgeous view and indoor fireplace. Our meal was good but not great. I expected to be wowed for the price but was not. For dessert we got the apple tart with vanilla ice cream. Tart was ok...ice cream tasted like it had freezer burn. If I stay at the Hilton Doubletree again I would come here for drinks and an appetizer and sit at the bar to enjoy the view.
Our most recent dining experience was Easter 2017,but I've eaten there before on Christmas, Mother's Day and birthdays so any time it's excellent. Our favorite waiter Sasour has been there 17 years.
Great place and view. Food was great.
The staff was outstanding as was the food. They had our table ready and right by the fireplace. They were very concerned about us as people and that we enjoyed ourselves and the food.
Arrived during heavy rainstorm at night. Good food and company. Looking forward to returning in the daytime as there is a great view along with great food.
Totally disappointed: I booked it for Valentine's night because they had a special menu described on Open Table. When we arrived they had none and even the dinner menu was not at all corresponding to what was detailed on Open table. The server said that it was last year information and it should have been updated! Based on their new menu we will not come back and will not recommend it.
We went for dinner. It was overpriced for what we got but ok food. Also went for breakfast. It was a nice buffet with a wide variety. Good for family meal
simple bar restaurant in a hotel on the Berkeley marina...easy to get there and and easy parking, unlike most of Berkeley...food is simple and tasty. not exotic...nice maritime view and good bar....
I reserved through Open Table because it was Christmas and I was not sure what would be available. I was with my niece. We got to the reception area and no one was there. We waited about five minutes and went into the bar dining area of the restaurant. There were many empty tables. My niece and I both made eye contact with at least 2 of the waitstaff. In 10 minutes time, no one acknowledged us, came to ask us what we were waiting for, if we had a reservation, or even ask us to please be patient. As we waited for quite a while, we were able to observe the diners and food being served. The diners seemed bored and uninterested in the food on their plates which looked rather dinerish, unappealing, and unoriginal. We ended up leaving, which was the best decision we could have made. We tried making reservations elsewhere through opentable but were unable to cancel or book elsewhere. Luckily we ended up going to Akemi (which was listed on Open table but which we could not reserve because of the aforementioned reasons.) The decor was elegeant, service excellent, and food divine. I would be happy to write a review for them. As for Bay Grille, won't be going there again, ever.
This was for our Christmas dinner. The braised beef shortribs melted in my mouth. My husbands ribeye was so flavorful! It was a chilly night out and we were seated near the fire place in the bar area. The fire was pretty much cosmetic and didn't provide much warmth. Since the restaurant is on the bay, the windows don't keep out much of the chill in the air.
Christmas Eve dinner on our way back to Sacramento
Another business meal, this one was marred by a screaming baby - those people should have taken the kid out until he calmed down or went to sleep. But we all had good meals and eventually the couple with the baby left. Our waiter was very attentive and all in all, we enjoyed our meeting. It was raining very hard, and our harbor view gave us a good show of the storm and wind!
Thanksgiving day is a special event in my family. And what better ways to try and sample someone else's fare.
Everything was delicious especially the variety in the salad and greens. The butternut squash soup was a delight to the palette. The turkey, ham and the cranberries were to die for.
Dessert was simple with pies and tartlets.
Another great business lunch at the Bay Grille & Bar. Food was great - we had an assortment of salads - and service was attentive. One thing I like are the glass bottles of cold water on the table so guests may pour water for themselves, and the bottles are replenished by the wait staff as necessary. The view of boats in the harbor is picturesque. When I informed the wait staff that this was a business meeting, they voluntarily turned the piped-in music down. That was a nice touch.
A definite "diamond in the rough"...great wait staff, food, ambiance, and away from all the hustle and bustle on the Berkeley Marina. And, a great live jazz trio (bass, keyboard, and drums) on Friday nights (starting at a decent hour for the bit more mature guests)! First visit was with family a few months ago and was very impressed with Aziz, one of the waiters...very attentive and always smiling! Was so impressed, brought very special friends from Las Vegas to enjoy, and did we! Unanimous menu favorites...roasted chicken, fried calamari, for now. Can't wait to bring more guests to try other dishes! To all, thank you so much for making our visits so wonderful and memorable!!!
Do not expect a decent meal here. It is strictly bar food. The pork sliders were OK. We ate here only because we were staying at the hotel and it's convenient. We ate here once before but thought we'd give it another try.Disappointed once again. Very expensive! We had 2 drinks waiting for our room to get ready and that was $33! Our meal was a bottle of wine and 3 appetizers and that was over $100. If you had a decent meal for that, it would be alright. They only have 3 different chardonnays, if that's what you like. No Kendall Jackson or similar wine. You're better off going to Skates to eat and walking back or catch Uber.
Very nice outdoor eating with view of harbor. Lack of Sunday brunch. Food a little too expensive.
My date and I could not have a conversation without constant interruptions by wait staff. We arrived for dinner at 8:00 pm on a quiet weeknight. Our waiter arrived with menus and took our drink orders. Moments later another waiter showed up for our order. We told him we were helped, but he continued returning to our table. We repeatedly told him we were helped by another waiter and notified our first waiter but to no avail. In fact, both of them barraged us with interruptions to the point my date became angry to the point of telling them DO NOT approach us again until we ask for our check!
Food was average: salad fresh but overdressed. Fried calamari appetizer ok. Roasted chicken was moist with a crispy skin and nice sauce. Chocolate dessert (mini bundt cake) tasted pre made had Hershey's syrup poured in top.
With so many great restaurants conveniently located in Berkeley and Oakland; there's no reason to eat here.
Unfortunately the service has just gone downhill tremendously. I wish it weren't the case because I used to love to dine here :(
Although this review was requested of my husband, he felt that I would be better at responding to this survey. We went there for Mother's Day and had their buffet brunch. There was a good selection of salads, entrees and desserts. Most of the food was good, however the lamb and salmon seemed overcooked. They wre on the warming plates and perhaps they sat there for awhile. The carving choices were prime rib and baked ham and they were both delicious. There were delicious fresh fruit and vegetables on the salad counters. By the time we got to the desserts, we were pretty full already, but did get a chance to try several dessert and they were light and tasty.
The atmosphere was quite nice looking out to the Bay and harbor. Service was good and at times there seemed to be too much, however that is better than too little.
All in all, it was a lovely buffet and the atmosphere was very romantic. The ladies even received a rose as a momentum of the visit. That was a very nice touch!
We expected a nice view of the bay but the restaurant is not situated in way to take advantage of the views. We ordered roasted tomato soup, cobb salad and fish tacos. The tomato soup arrived cold with two soggy pieces of bread. The flavor was good but it had clearly been sitting around awhile before being brought to the table. The cobb salad had a nice presentation but quite small for the price. The main dining room is old in every way (tables, chairs, lighting). The restaurant needs to be updated.
Went here for our anniversary, it was not crowded the ambiance was nice. Our food was okay and our service lagged a bit. However our waiter was very nice. Overall our visit here was good.
I was disappointed with the Mother's Day Brunch . The food selection was very limited for $60.00 and not the best in taste. I have been to Bay Grille in the past for a Mother's Day Brunch an it was awesome, maybe the restuarant is under different management. I wish my party made reservations with His Lordship instead.
Went on a Saturday evening & expected to be sitting in the restaurant section of the Grille, but found it closed, they don't seat there for an evening meal (really?), at a Hilton Doubletree..? but instead you find your own table in the Lounge (Bar) area (1st surprise). A pleasant 2nd surprise was the jazz group, which played until 7p, that was a nice. Then came the order for drinks & food, wine was good as was the Cosmo; then salads followed by entrees - each surprisingly good! Portions also generous size & cooked correctly (thus yet another good surprise on quality)! Service was fine, acceptable for lounge location.
I would consider going back due to quality of meal, but to sit in the Lounge area for a nice evening meal is unacceptable - especially for a Doubletree ! That was the most unexpected surprise of all!! I've stayed in many hotels of this caliber, & find it disheartening for this hotels prime " evening meal" location be in the loung area where views are of lovely dock/ bayside & ambience could be highly enhanced just by sitting in the restaurant area just a few feet away!
No host for dinner and you seat yourself in the bar lounge. They were understaffed and the service and food was slow. We had salmon that was a little dry and uninspiring. We expected more when we paid those prices.
We arrived a little early for our 7:30 dinner reservation. We noticed that the dining room that had been depicted on the website was empty--no staff, no customers. After a few moments, a manager came over to help us. He informed us that the dining room was only used for breakfast, that lunch and dinner were only available in the bar, and that they didn't take reservations. I informed him that I had made a reservation on Open Table (with which he seemed to be familiar) and that it had been confirmed but he repeated that they didn't take reservations. We were allowed to select a table in the bar and a different manager comped our appetizer. The atmosphere was typical of a bar on a college rivalry weekend, not the quiet, casual dinner we had hoped. The service was slow. All in all, the experience was nothing like what we anticipated.
The food on the buffet was great as always. The waiter was not friendly or attentive, he seemed put off everytime we asked for something, it was hard to get enough decaf coffee from him for the 3 people who wanted some. Several pieces of glassware and silverware were dirty.
Overall, we love the space, the view and the food. I know if we had another waiter the experience would have been soo much better.
Wonderful meal and attention at Bay Grille & Lounge-- our server thoughtfully had our large salad and entree ( sharing) separated into individual bowls,
The seafood was fresh and delicious!
The guests in the dining room were quiet conversationalists.
The blue sky and the bay view were really special for relaxing.
