Was very quiet when we went as week of 2nd lockdown but food still of a high quality and delicious.
Absolutely delicious roast lunch and friendly service.
We were treating ourselves to a Sunday lunch .and what a treat. We had delicious
Sunday lunch, the food was superb. We both had the Lamb.
Also the service could mot be faulted .really friendly staff and helpful.
Great value for money. The desserts were also super
To top it all we had a window seat with amazing view?
Perfect afternoon
Thankyou
Perfect restaurant for a special occasion. Nice decor. Great views over looking Margate. Good atmosphere. Service faultless. Tasty food. Good cocktails.
Received excellent service. The taste experience definitely over delivered from what we expected.
Great Sunday Lunch. Good value, no hassel and lovely views.
Excellent meal and service at a good price. My wife is a vegetarian and thought her meal was one of the best she had when dining out. Both of us would welcome the opportunity to return to Bay next time we are close to Margate.
I took my Mum for lunch as a treat. She ordered the chicken burger which was basically gristle. For £15 this was an absolute joke. I ordered the double cheese soufflé which was 1cm high. I’ve watched enough masterchef to know that constitutes a fail. The whole dish was so salty I could barely eat it. We told this to the waitress when she came to collect our plates and although she said she’d mention it to the chef, we weren’t offered any gesture or discount - even an apology. The waitress was very attentive throughout, gorgeous view of the sea etc but the fact is, we came for a nice lunch and nice it absolutely wasn’t. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone and we won’t be returning.
Spectacular views overlooking Margate. Great food and service
Disappointed overall. Nice place, great setting but the food and service was lacking in many areas. Waiting staff had a lack of knowledge on the food and drinks on the menu and the food itself left a lot to be desired. Shame as it has such potential.
Food was very tasty (fresh fish was delicious and beautifully cooked) and good value as well. The restaurant felt like it has just the right amount of people to give it atmosphere when all tables full but spaced out nicely. All waiting staff wore masks and were attentive.
Booked a table for 4 at 15.45. Only thing on the menu was cream teas and afternoon tea. I asked the waiter if any other food available. He said he did not know. His reply to everything I asked was 'I don't know' Looking at him unbelievably he eventually he took the initative to ask 'shall I find out?' To which I replied 'Yes'
After trying to order 3 Cream Teas ( £9) and 1 Afternoon Tea (£18) we were told that we had booked Afternoon Tea so that was what we had to have as the chef had already prepared it and it needed to stay fresh. We had been looking forward to dining at the Sands Hotel so did not make a fuss as we wanted to enjoy the experience.
I must say the Afternoon tea was very disappointing. The Scone was ok with plenty of Jam and cream. It was accompanied by a prawn mayonnaise mini bun and 2 other small pastries that needed an acquired taste.(no vegetarian option). The 3 mini desserts were very sickly sweet. So my daughters who have a sweet tooth could not manage them.
The view was very nice.
I am sure that the other food is nice at the Sands Hotel, but would certainly not book a table after 3pm and before 5pm as you will be given afternoon tea with no choice of what you are given except in choosing which tea. If you have a refill please make sure the put a fresh teabag in or they will just top it with water and it will come out as water.
The table next door were loudly complaining but I don't blame them. They insisted on paying a smaller amount as the cakes were not eaten. I wish now I had follow suit.
Probably the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had. It used to be lovely! What’s happened?
Really nice space and very relaxed. Food good and generous portions. Reasonable prices.
Accommodation 5 * I took my friends out for afternoon Champagne tea.. Wasnt entirely happy given two wraps of the same filling because I asked mine to come without fish..(wasn't offered an alternative? Apart from that the staff very friendly atmosphere was lovely and I would defiantly recommend..
Both the food and service were outstanding. The room was beautiful with lovely views over the sea.
Had a lovely experience here. Was sat in the best spot outside on the terrace. Food was amazing and we can't wait to come back again. Also the rooftop bar was lovely!
Good menu choices, table request met, much appreciated. Staff friendly and efficient. Would not hesitate to return.
The menu had been changed since our last visit which was quite disappointing as I was expecting the usual sandwiches.
We had a lovely evening, first we had drinks on the Terrance and then a meal inside, both tables had a wonderful view. The food was great, even the children’s menu was nicely presented and tasted good.
The service was just the right level of attentive.
The Hotel was lovely and the atmosphere was good, however I had a Beetroot Risotto which was undercooked and tepid..not great. but my wife had a fish dish that she says was nice.
Had a chicken burger that was raw inside, no apology and wasn’t taken off the bill. Just re made another even though the rest of us had finished. I love the decor and where sands is in Margate but the service the last three times I’ve been isn’t great and the food was always lovely but again not great the last few visits. It’s a shame.
Excellent meals, well presented and good price (maybe because we are used to London prices), but I do not think it was expensive. I really enjoyed the experience (it was for my 40th boyfriend's birthday)
We had a lovely afternoon tea, treating my parents to their first experience dining out after lockdown. The staff were very friendly and accommodating with our requests and everyone was socially distanced and the hotel had good hygiene measures in place.
Particularly enjoyed the savoury selection rather than just sandwiches.
Stunning view, delicious food and genuinely warm and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend!
Really lovely staff and lovely atmosphere. The only complaint I had was the CUSTOMERS. The customers in there are so rude and think they were entitled to anything. There were 2 young girls serving and men kept invading their personal space which I thought was unfair due to COVID. I saw no reason for anyone to complain, food was lovely and so were the staff. Food was delicious and would recommend the cod main!!
Service was very efficient, and food quality was good. We sat outside, a little noisy, but otherwise comfortable. There is a long hike to the toilet, which is two floors, but lovely facilities once you eventually arrive.
Lovely lunch, friendly & attentive service without being intrusive, high quality & delicious food
Lovely views. Excellent service and fantastic food
Great Setting, great food, great service! Highly recommend
Most enjoyable visit to The Sands, after 3 months if lock down. Shame we had to watch staff clean the balcony but guess that might have been covid quide lines. Food good, toilets clean , staff good. Will recommend.
Lovely lunch with friends.
Social distancing in place
Fantastic food and service.
Thank you
More vegan options please
Amazing food - these chefs can cook and don't fall apart when you ask for dietary specials - love this place! Like Hollywood come to Margate
Menu was limited and there was no atmosphere whatsoever
I we had the last Tuesday.
The waitrasses were never engaged in the need of the clients, eg refilling teapots, etc.
The bready sandwiches were disappointed (too much bread)
Too much cake variety
The scones were good and freshly baked which was the best part of tea!
The decor and ambiance and view were good, but nevertheless these points should be complemented with good service.
Service was attentive and friendly. The food was great and cooked very well. Interesting dishes with a good mix of flavours.
The surrounding area does let this hotel down especially in January when everything is closed, even the Turner contemporary was closed. The view is amazing and the afternoon teas looked lovely. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The food was maybe not to our choosing. We thought the potatoes weren’t cooked through and the chicken was a bit bland. The dessert however was delicious .I would recommend trying it in the summer and a cream tea.
The negatives were:
Table was laid but the table its self was dirty, the velour chairs, although very comfortable, were badly stained. My vegetables were served in a badly cracked dish. Oh, and on arriving we were greeted by a mop and dust pan and brush standing by the Bar.
The positives were:
The view was outstanding, food was delicious, service attentive and prompt.
Fantastic service from everyone. The setting is lovely and the food and drink was very reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We enjoyed the whole experience. Food was delicate but flavoursome and the fish cooked to perfection. Great view of course and an interesting exhibition of paintings on display too! A la carte menu reasonably priced So looking forward to returning soon.
