Baxter's Lakeside Grille Ratings and Reviews
We have lived near the lake area for several years, but had never tried Baxter's, so Valentine's Day seemed like an ideal time to give it a try. We were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation, our server was very nice and very attentive, especially considering how crowded they were. The crab cakes were excellent, good crunch on the outside and little to no filler in the crab. I was disappointed in the clam chowder, which had an overwhelming herb flavor to it (I believe it was sage), but our server very graciously replaced it with a salad, which was delicious. My wife's salmon was a bit undercooked for my taste, but she was fine with it. While my filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the scallops were just a bit overdone, though the flavor was there. The gooey butter cake with cinnamon ice cream was a wonderfully delicious end to our meal. The noise level was moderate (not quite what you might want for a romantic dinner), but certainly understandable given the full house. Overall, it was a delightful evening and we look forward to returning, perhaps reserving a table by the window, for a full lake view.
We come to the area for a marriage retreat. We happened to find this restaurant last year and decided it was so good to come back again. The food comes out looking beautiful but taste even better. The rolls are heavenly. We were so full that we got our Vanilla Bean Cheesecake to go and it was amazing.
First. The bad.Our server Jesse seemed uninterested and in my opinion he was new. The lighting is to low here and I could barely read the menu. We were sat promptly as we had a reservation. Cocktails were tasty(cucumber martini). We had the charcuterie tray as a app and as a lover of cured meats and cheeses, this was sorely lacking both in presentation and quality product. Cesar salad was no better. Small with to little dressing and the lettuce was not fresh. There was no beer/cocktail menu and I had to go online to se what the beverage options were. Wine list was provided and it was lackluster. Bring your own bottle. No corkage fees listed and I observed parties bringing their own.
Now,I had the sea bass entree and thought it was done very well. Definitely the highlight of the meal. Desert menu was sorely lacking and we passed on having any.
The waterfront view was nice and I did not think it was overly noisy. I was critical of this establishment. I am a professional chef and I have higher than average expectations when I dine out. If your a serious foodie,go elsewhere.
As always we had wonderful food and service.
Unfortunately a group of 6 people a couple of tables over from us were extremely loud and playing some type of game. I felt really bad for the table next to them. The waitress said they were regulars but that did not give them the right to be so loud. It really ended up not a good experience. The waitress said we were welcome to say something to the table about the noise but I feel that should be a management issue. Baxter's is not a quiet place with so many tables in a small space and I understand that but this was way too loud.
Truly amazing, Baxter’s will not disappoint. I’m so thankful every time when we return. The food is incredible, but the experience fully supports the food. The staff is well-trained and personable and the ambiance is romantic, but somehow fosters incredible conversation. I’ll be back many times!
We always enjoy our dining experience at Baxters!! Even with a party of 8, the service was outstanding, and so was the food. We have a variety of fish, steaks, chicken all selected from different members of our party and everyone was pleased with their entire meal. We had a great evening and will be back for lunch in a week!!
My wife and I went out for date night and were looking for some "really good" food. Baxter's did not disappoint. I had the rib-eye & she had the scallops. Both were excellent! Oh, and the calamari.... YUM. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly! Will definitely be back! Recommend reservations.
We arrived 10 minutes early, the person at the booth made the comment that we were early snidely. We wanted for our reservation, which we were 15 minutes late to be seated. We sat for an extended period of time as our waitress greeted us and took our drink orders. We let her know we were running behind because our reservation was seated late and we had our order ready. She ignored that we had our orders ready and quickly left the table after explaining the specials. She returned for our drink orders and quickly left the table again. She dropped off our drinks and took our order further delaying our plans for the evening.
I’m not exactly sure if I would recommend this establishment after our dining experience.
I understand we were just a small table and a small part of their revenue for the evening. But you should treat your small table with urgency and respect the same as your large.
We arrived early for lunch and were immediately seated at our requested window table. Our server was friendly & attentative. The fish sandwiches were delicious, the signature potato soup fantastic, and the view of the Lake was absolutely amazing. ....a wonderfully relaxing dining experience.
Have chosen this as our special place to celebrate since we settled in Oz. This was our second visit and our special annual holiday dinner. We went early to see the last of the sunset and the lights twinkle on around the Lake. Do wish the bar had had some holiday drinks - like my favorite eggnog martini. Next year, please?
