food was very good. one drink order was lost. server was new. appetizer arrived before drinks. bread was offered after salad course was finished. server will need to do a lot better.
Nice place for lunch or dinner. Food was good and service also good. A little dark though for my taste.
The food is always fabulous at Baxters! I love short ribs and the chef is a master at preparing them. Servers are attentive and very good! Eating at Baxters is always a positive experience.
Went to have corned beef and cabbage at 6pm on St. Patrick’s Day and they were already out. Disappointed, ordered the bourbon pork chop. Tasted good but the texture was very chewy. I would have sent it back but I was not confident they could deliver a good pork chop. Dessert was excellent.
Delicious as usual!!!
This place has little something fro everyone. If you are looking for soup and salad for lunch or fine dining for date night. I will be back sooner than later.
We've been to Bloomington Normal several times over the last 3or4 years. Yes, it's a college town and I get that. The dining scene is overwhelmingly casual and fast food chain heavy. We go to a Special Olympics event every year and that always seems to fall on my wife's birthday. So we try to look for something a little more upscale. Baxter's is just the ticket. We were greeted promptly by a friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff. He took our drink order and came back shortly with one of the best Manhattans I've ever had. The ambiance is "Elegant Steakhouse" with it's spacious booths and rich wood paneling. Our food came just as fast as the drinks and just as tasty. They boast "Steaks,Chops and Seafood" and they definitely come across. They have a broad menu, but focused on American fare. There's an extensive, but reasonably priced wine list that should find parings for anything on the menu.
It's a place folks go the celebrate special occasions and you can tell they know it. One of the first things the waiter asks is if you're here for a celebration. Along with my wife's, there were two other birthdays and a bridal shower dinner all within 5 tables. At the end of the meal, we were quietly treated to a wonderful "Gooey Buttercake" No big show of waitstaff forced into a show of song and happiness, just tasteful presentation and a sincere"Happy birthday"from our waiter. What more do you need? All in all, Baxter's is a winner and we'll be back!
One of the best places for a relaxing meal and drink with family and friends.
Baxters is a posh environment with very attentive staff and the food is memorable. Prices aren't too bad for specials.
Kind of an upscale TGI Friday’s. Good menu but tastes were a bit disappointing, like underripe fruit or salty sandwiches. Had a the distinct feel of a chain restaurant using formulas rather than doing real cooking. Waiter was gracious and accommodating. The dessert, a take on strawberry shortcake using puff pastry, was surprisingly light and very yummy...best part of the meal. Good wine list!
We went to Baxter’s for my son’s birthday. We drove in from Paris, IL and another couple drove in from Peoria. It was totally worth the drive. The service....at least three different individuals took care of our every need.
The only reason for the lower food review was my husband's steak was not so great. Just was not tender and did not have the best flavor, especially for the cost. My smothered chicken, however, was fantastic. Everything else was fantastic.
Dinner for two; server excellent and dinner was at the level we expect from Baxter’s. Very nice evening.
A perfectly fine experience, with food that is good (not great) and service to match. The steaks are average; the sides are what you’d expect; and the servers don’t know much about the fairly impressive wine list. I don’t know what to compare this against in Bloomington (I get there a lot for work but don’t live there), but would describe this as a good place for everyday food but not a particularly noteworthy restaurant.
As usual the overall quality of our experience was excellent-good food and good service!
Second bad meal in a row. The tuna appetizer was very good - prime rib was not tender or juicy. The baked potato was hard and not cooked - didn't think you could mess up a potato. We did have a good server and we enjoyed the bar. We will not be back for awhile, better places to eat in Bloomington.
We have never had a bad meal. This time my ribs were just a tad to done but center meat was great. Other then that we always have the best food here.
Outstanding experience, will be back!
Professional wait staff, amazing food, and excellent beverage choices. We ate in the bar area and the views of the wood and windows are beautiful!!!
Great food and service. The restaurant was full and lively with great energy!
I had an amazing dinning experience!!
Overall, it was just ok. Nothing special like what we had hoped...we had a newer server that didn't seem to know the menu the best.
Staff was great, very accomodating (we added additional guest at last minute), 5 guests total.
Server was excellent (Bryan).
All food was very good except the chicken lemon, overcooked, dried out, tough. Too bad, as all other aspects of dinner was great. We didn't send food back, as my wife assured me she didn't want to make a fuss.
I would go back again, however would not order chicken, and would not be bashful about bringing sub par entrees to their attention.
Very positive experience.
Overall, nice experience. Great service. Only criticism would be advising against their cocktails. I’ve ordered gin martinis a number of times, always hoping they’ll have improved, yet always disappointed. Either A) the alcohol/ice sits in the shaker too long, B) they scrimp on the alcohol, or C) they’re watering down the alcohol. This particular evening I ordered Tanquaray and dinner partner ordered Beefeaters. Both were equally weak and disappointing. Another dinner partner ordered Tito’s on the rocks. Also disappointing. Long story short: Order wine.
Really good food. The recipes are consistently good, which I appreciate and is the reason we keep going back. Service was great, too. It was Valentine’s Day and our reservation was at 9p. Our server was still so nice & attentive, despite the fact that she must’ve been exhausted.
I have only one minor complaint. Their steak knives. Stupid as it sounds, I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have a legit steak knife sharp enough to cut razor-thin slices. I basically had a $2 Wal-Mart quality serrated steak knife, which pulverized my gorgeous NY Strip.
Despite my petty knife thing, the meal and service were both great. We’re coming back. But, please. Fix the knives.
Wonderful food and great service. This was the best NY Strip Steak I have had in years!
My wife and I have been here a few times and it has been a great experience every time.
The food and service is always great!
BITE LITTLE AS WAITING TO ORDER FOOD AS COOKING AS ONE HOUR AND HALF HR AS LAST TIME EAT DINNER AT 4 30 PM TILL 700PM .
Food and service were great. Made our Valentines Day date that more special.
Great food! Great service. Friendly staff. One of our favorite places to go for a great dinner. Never had a bad experience.
Awesome waiter Chris made our experience very enjoyable! Definitely will return!
Anniversary dinner. Server Eric was excellent and attentive.
Service was not good. Server was not attentive! Took over
A half he just to get dessert from time they were ordered. Other tables came and went and we were
Still sitting there.
Our favorite Evening Out restaurant. Service is awesome and the meals never fail to exceed expectations!
I took my staff here for lunch and it was wonderful! Good menu selection, great prices, great service!
Food was awesome as usual, but waitress was a bit slow or preoccupied with larger group.
Baxter's was very sweet. When I made my reservation, I let them know it was my birthday. At dinner, they gave us a bottle of Champagne on the house and also a free piece butter cake . That was very thoughtful.
This restaurant was a gem! I had been hearing great things about it, and stepped out of my comfort zone. Made a reservation, sat quickly. My server was amazing!
Food was good. Service was not impressive water glass empty for way to long. The music was too loud in the dinning area
