Bavette's is typically great, but this past weekend they were a little backed up, so we ended up standing at the bar until 9:25 or 9:30 for our 9 p.m. reservation ... just long enough to get annoyed. Once we ordered we again waited for an insanely long time for food to arrive. So the service wasn't great due to long wait times.
Otherwise, the ambience and food were really nice. We had steak of course, but also tried the crab cake, which was the best I've ever had. Same goes for the sides of corn and mashed potatoes. Really delicious!
This was our second visit to Bavette's. The food was very good, but the service and atmosphere was lacking. We were seated in the lower level which lacks the main level ambience and has very low lighting (I literally needed a flashlight to read the menu). Service was slow. . . waited ten minutes for our server to take a drink order and ended up canceling the second bottle of wine for our table as it arrived after dinner was over and the table was being cleared.
Waiter was attentive and not too overbearing. Food was top notch and very happy with our experience overall. Bavettes is my girlfriends favorite restaurant and I have yet to have a poor experience
Highly recommend, crowded, little loud but cool experience
We celebrated a 71st birthday at Bavette’s. It was a wonderful dining experience. Excellent food and service.
Took my husband out for Valentines Day. Really loved the food and wine. We started with Shrimp Dijon. Husband had Dry Aged Ribeye. I had pork chop - best one I’ve ever had... better than recent ones at Ditka’s and Perry’s. Loved the Rignana Chianti. My biggest issue is the lightning. Literally unable to read menu at bar and at the table. I’m not that old and seems like an easy fix. Either make the font bigger and bolder... or turn up the lights.
Really well made food! The gold brick chocolate was outstanding! Bone in filet cooked to perfection. My boyfriend wanted to share his meal with me but he eats his steak rare while I prefer med well. They cut off a piece fir me, sent it back and cooked it to literal perfection. It was heavenly!
This was my 2nd time here. Both times have been amazing. Great service, food, and drinks.
Love the sharing-is-caring corkage policy! The steak tartare is outstanding and don't get me started on the 6oz duchess filet cooked to medium rare perfection. The service was impeccable and I can't imagine having a better waiter than Erik!
Probably the best steakhouse I had eaten!, everything was perfect!, service, food, presentation, portions, a must go in Chi- Town.
Service was good and ambiance is romantic! However, my filet was over cooked and had to send it back to the kitchen. The server was very apologetic and agreed the kitchen had over cooked it. The Rye Old Fashion cocktail was delicious but served with too much ice, and had to pick the ice out of my glass. I mentioned it to the server but when we ordered our second one it still had a lot of ice. Perhaps it slipped his mind?!
Everything was great, the food, the service and our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. Would highly recommend it.
Best steak I have ever had. Very cool place
One of Chicago's best - the impeccable service, food (must have steak & oysters), and ambiance all combine to make it an unforgettable experience.
We went to Bavette's for an early Valentines Day and were not disappointed! We had an 8:15pm reservation and were seated around 8:35pm. We didn't mind the 20 min wait as they have a small seating area where you can order a drink while you wait.
Food: Ordered the 6 oz and 10 oz filets with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts on the side. Everything was cooked exactly how we ordered and the sides were huge! One side can definitely feed 3-4 people. The house made sour dough bread was also AMAZING. I would have ordered seconds if we didn't have a large meal coming.
Ambiance: It is DARK in here. I'm not sure if I would recommend to an "older" crowd as it took a little while for our eyes to adjust. However, we did not mind as it had a romantic and special occasion vibe that we were looking for.
Service: Our server, James, was attentive and knowledgeable without making us feel rushed or bothered. As it was a special occasion, we did have a very long meal enjoying our drinks and appreciated not feeling like we were being rushed out.
Bavette's remains my all time favorite restaurant in the city. i have been there three times and i am always so impressed with the delicious food, beautiful lighting, romantic atomsphere, and excellent service. i can actually say that i loved every single bite of my meal, from the perfectly sized piece of bread and butrer, to the most amazing lemon meringue pie i have ever had. A++++
Amazing experience! Went to celebrate my steak-loving boyfriend's birthday (even though I am a pescatarian!) and we both absolutely loved it. Service was very good, the food even better, and we loved the BYOB policy (it's free as long as you share a glass of wine with another table).
Highly recommend!! This will definitely be our special occasion spot moving forward.
The restaurant's atmosphere is pretty cool - but different upstairs from downstairs. We were seated downstairs and it was more intimate and quiet, whereas upstairs seemed to be more boisterous. The food was delicious and the portions were absolutely share-able. Our waiter, Claus, was a sweetheart!
Every single thing we ate was incredible and met the high expectations we had for the restaurant. Daniel was one of the better servers I have ever had and definitely helped us get the most out of the experience. Our meal was surprisingly less expensive than we anticipated.
Very cool ambiance. Old school vibe, low lighting, pretty cozy. It’d be a great place for a date or special occasion.
The food was very good. Overall it’s high quality with enough options outside of steak to make it interesting. The service was fantastic.
