This restaurant is at the level of Chicago Cut or Gibsons, but with a unique style of its own. I’ve been meaning to come here for years as it has been one of the top steak houses in the city. Was it worth the wait? Not really, but it is a top notch steak house. But competition is stiff for this caliber of restaurant in Chicago so I think I will try other highly rated steak houses before coming back. It might be a useful onservation to say my teenage daughter liked it but thought there were too many adults and too dark, if that makes sense about the vibe. LOL. She liked Chicago Cut much more probably because of the windows and the scene is a bit more cosmopolitan and modern. However, I liked Bavette’s steaks more than Chicago Cut. Bavette’s has more of a speak easy, dark and swanky atmosphere. Our waiter was personable and excellent.
Ambiance, sides, and appetizers were great. Unfortunately the steak was not good. We ordered their dry aged rib eye medium rare. We had to send them back for being close to well done. Waiter apologized and brought out new steaks. Unfortunately this time they were undercooked and cold. Seemed like they rushed them out. Sadly the steak was the worst part of the steak house.
We had a late dinner after having cocktails at another bar. Table was ready, service was prompt, and food was amazing. Steaks cooked to perfection my friend and I️ had a ribeye and a filet. We also had truffle Mac and cheese and charred broccoli. Our waiter recommended wine and we just had an amazing time. I️ really enjoyed the ambiance and the decor. Great experience.
Among the best, most memorable steaks we have had. I had the bone in ribeye with bone marrow. Wife had bone in filet mignon with roasted garlic. The truffle mac and cheese and wild mushrooms were also outstanding. We had a nice booth in the downstairs dining room. The space was very cool. We will be back. Oh don't forget to try a shot of port from the bone marrow bone...first time ever doing that.
I've been to Bavette's before and had a wonderful experience. Tonight however fell far beneath my expectations. The food took forever to come out. The server didn't address the 40 min wait for a steak, salad and mashed potatoes until after the meal was served. The mashed potatoes were salty. The smoked salmon ceasar salad was over dressed. When I got home I was physically ill from the meal. I'm going to stick with RPM Steak and Maple and Ash moving forward.
Came here for the first time with friends. Everything was fantastic. Filet, Bone in Ribeye, Cheeseburger, Mac n Cheese, corn, Salmon Caesar Salad, Lyonaise Salad, Brussel Sprouts, and to top it all off the Chocolate Cream Pie is one of the best desserts in the city. Overall experience blew our expectations and we will be back!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. It was recommended by my friend and at first, I was amazed by how far in advance you’d have to book to get a table. After my experience, I’m happy to admit that it’s worth the wait. The staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. Best steak (10oz Filet Mignon) I’ve ever had.
10 year wedding anniversary. We came in for a very early dinner reservation at 5:15 and there were plenty of seats available. Unfortunately, we were seated in the basement by the servers station. Not the ideal spot to celebrate a special occasion. Disappointing experience since we were there a few years ago and had a lovely table for our anniversary. Basement was cold; loud and distracting with the wait staff by our table.
So great to see a cozy speakeasy settIng when everyone else is over-doing modern! Quality crab cakes, tender filet could be cut w a butter knife and the chocolate pie w Oreo crust and dense cream topping was over-the-moon delicious! Top quality service too. Definitely worthy of top ratings
Such a wonderful place to spend an evening. The service was wonderful, we received a warm greeting the moment we arrived and our server never rushed us and even encouraged us to sit back and relax...Food was fresh, well seasoned and portion sizes were perfect. If you are looking for a top notch restaurant with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere...this is your place!
My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday. We ordered the crab cake and bacon tomato salad. The bacon was nearly as thick as the petite filet I ordered. My husband had the rib eye with truffle mac and cheese and roasted brussel sprouts. Food was savory and perfectly salted. The ice cream was smooth and buttery. Definitely will come back!
Bavette's accomplished what many high-end places attempt but fail. Good food or good ambiance by themselves make for a fine place, but the combination of the two is something seldom achieved with new restaurants. There is a cohesion about the place that reverberates through all the components from the decor to the service to the food. It feels like entering a different place, and that's what ultimately makes the experience. My girlfriend and I frequent many restaurants and this is one we plan to visit again and again.
This was our first time to Chicago and your resturant was highly recommended.
Boy was this a great treat. From the time we walked into the warm environment to the fabulous bar and then amazing service and food we were so impressed. a fabulous evening all around and I would recommend this as a great steak resturant if you are going to Chicago.
