The nine-course lunch is a delight for foodies. Each dish is artistic and creative, a flavorful blend with each bite. We enjoyed the surprise each dish brought, though our surprise at seeing no choices other than the prix fixe menu was not as enjoyable.. as well as the price. We weren't expecting so many courses for our work lunch, but the wait staff were great at accommodating our time limitations. Lunch at Baume is a special treat!
I would have rated it higher, and I agree with other reviews that food and service were very good and worth trying, but I have to say both the overview on OpenTable and their website don't go out of their way explaining that the only available option is their 12 course dinner (at 'slightly' more than $50 per person)
Also not very well explained: they require a credit card to make the reservation but only AFTER making the reservation they inform you that you can only cancel with 72 hours advance notice (I made the reservation a couple of hours before) and you'll be charged a cancellation fee of $100.
Anyway, again, for a very special occasion and as long as you know, it is worth the experience.
Come when the boss is paying, but expect an unforgettable foodie experience. Best filet mignon EVER! 15 courses of taste and food worth taking pictures of. Dessert unremarkable though. One of the best restaurants in the whole Bay area, including Napa
simply the best experience in a long time
le meme souvenir d un passage a l Astrance Paris il y a quelques mois, bravo chef ....
I took my wife for her birthday. It was an exceptional meal. Everything was amazing, fresh, and beautifully presented. It is expensive, which you know going in, but perfect for that very special occasion.
The food was terrific - interesting and unusual. We were especially pleased by waitstaff who were friendly and informative. They were able to describe both food and wine clearly and precisely. I thought the squab, which they said was a relatively recent addition, was especially delicious.
Food was tasty, wine pairing was solid, dessert was lacking in quantity and variety.
Outstanding food although a little light on the portions - for what I paid I would have expected to be full at the end, especially after what 12? courses! The food was delicious and creative, and the wait staff was friendly, accommodating and extremely professional. Outrageously expensive and hard to justify unless money is not really meaningful to you.
The service was great up until after we were rushed out of the restaurant. I couldn't believe I paid that much to be rushed. We needed more opportunity to enjoy the food. There was even another gentleman two tables down that arrived the same time, but was not asked to hurry.
The decor was, but there wasn't much privacy. The conversations around us were very distracting.
Of the 12 courses in the tasting menu perhaps 2 didn't quite work, 8 were superb, and 2 were out of this world mind blowing. Is it wrong of me to want, at these prices, maybe a few more mind-blowing dishes? Service is impeccable and the ambience wonderful.
Some really memorable inventive food, but some others that were a bit of a reach and "trying to hard". Overall a really nice meal, good service, albeit a bit pretentious at times. Way too expensive and the wine pairing were good, but not a good value. Better to just buy a bottle off the list. Overall the restaurant was not special enough to justify the price point. Eleven Madison Park in NYC was cheaper for example, and much more special.
impeccable french cuisine with surprises and very tasty, a discovery evening, expensive with premium pairing but worth it. will be back
Extraordinarily overpriced food and wine. Tries to be the French Laundry and about as expensive and only a fraction of the value and pleasure.
The culinary artistry was thoughtful and refined. One of the best amongst restaurants of similar caliber
The whole experience was absolutely wonderful, every single dish was as flavorful, as original and beautiful. Service was very good as well: informative but not intrusive. One of the best in the Bay Area
I have no issue with the food - the meal we had was very good. The problem was the price. As good as the meal was, no way was it worth $178/person (no wine or other drinks). I'd expect to pay that much at Gary Danko or the other high end places in San Francisco, but not in Palo Alto.
I was also disappointed with the ambiance. Baume's location is unassuming and the interior looks like a two room office. It's well decorated, but nothing visually impressive. Maybe I'm being overly critical but for the price, I expected a much nicer setting.
Quite simply put - absolutely superb. One of the world's greats with terrific food, polished and professional service and very friendly staff. fit for special occasions.
All the review are richly deserved and we had a wonderful and memorable evening.
Fantastic presentation, superb services, however, the actual taste of the food was rather bland considering the unique menu. That said, a 9 course tasting for lunch isn't something I could ever again recommend for a business meeting. While it was interesting, it was also way over priced for the value.
Baume gets better and better, food presentation and blast of seasonal flavors combination as always, loves it.
will be backsoon
Outstanding way to celebrate a 25th anniversary. Wonderfully prepared food and great service. Would recommend for any special occasion - extremely pricey, but a unique place.
This was my first time to dine at Baume and it was a great experience. The food was amazing...Great technique, great flavors. I will definitely return
pretentious there is not menu you cannot pick any food, they have one 12 course fixed menu
This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in all of the bay area! Everything on the menu is amazing.
Came here with my wife and her parents. Her dad had read about it and wanted to take us there. My wife and I had been curious about coming here for quite some time. Food was really delicious -- standouts were the filet mignon (which typically I'm not a fan of due to lack of flavor), the lobster in one course, and the well-known 62 degree egg. Service was good though not without faults (accidental knock-over of water glass, eek). Overall, it's not a place I would go again -- especially if I were paying for it myself -- since in particular for the price it's in the same category as area restaurants that are far better in our opinion (French Laundry, Coi, Cyrus).
We had the most spectacular experience at this restaurant. The food, service and the entire evening was amazing. We indulged in the tasting menu with wine. It was quite a feast. It was my wife's birthday and they made us feel very special. They gave her a card as we sat down. it was the most expensive meal ever, but it was quite an experience
outstanding food ,love the turbot, also squab dishes. superb service and perfect premium wine pairing, will be back.
Amazing! Just amazing!
Outstanding food and service . We will be back
A terrific and romantic experience. Everything was perfect--food, service atmosphere.
of all restaurant eaten in the bay area, this is one of the best, price is expensive, but well worth it!! Service outstanding along with the 12 course...Servings are small, but at the end its enough ...As an Architect, eating here is like an Art, every serving is a design of itself.......keith
Lovely restaurant for special occasions. Definitely could not afford to eat here all the time. Food presentation and flavor was amazing. The prix fixe menu with wine pairings is the way to go. Every morsel had wonderful flavor. Enjoy for that very special occasion!
very special place for people who understand what it take to be at that level of cooking, surprising dishes full of flavor and labor.superb service and premium pairing match perfectly.Places like that in the US, not many. will be back
Everything was perfect and it was a treat to be in a quiet restaurant
It is rare to find such imaginative dishes
This was really important meeting for my boss and a few other CEO's. They spent a lot of money for this diner, and then next morning my boss told me that the service was horrible, I was shocked and embarrassed because I am the one who made this reservation!!!
As always very impressive food presentation and full of flavor, impeccable sevice.
I've eaten in top rated restaurants around the world, but nothing quite like Baume. From the hand towel service (shh, a secret) to the last tiny bite of delectable dessert, it was a phenomenal experience. I have never tasted such exquisite flavors and unique preparations. It was, in a word, perfection. We took along my young nephew who is a passionate foodie and aspiring chef, and the restaurant was exceptionally nice to him. After meeting the chef personally and having his menu signed by him, my nephew left truly delighted and inspired. He counts his meal at Baume as one of the best times in his young life. We agree completely.
one of the best food i ever have, full of flavors explose in your mouth, do not look for quantity but qualiy and try to understand what you eat like every educated human being should be........look below
prix fix menu. 178/person. Without wine! Odd food. And not much of it
Absolutely outstanding from start to finish! Beautiful presentation, excellent food and impeccable service! Dining experience of a lifetime.
