Bauhaus Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Interesting take on German food. Ordered four course tasting meal that include Hamachi, lamb, elk and dessert with a bottle of British Columbia wine. Very good flavors but expensive for the amount of food. For my spouse and I, we were fine with the quantity but if you like bigger portions you may need more. Excellent and attentive service from our waiter and staff. In trendy Gastown neighborhood close to waterfront. Next time I would order more traditional offerings like schnitzel, rouladen or sauerbraten to see how these taste. Overall, an enjoyable meal if you want to spend the money.
Second time to Bauhaus, this time for our daughter's birthday. We all really loved everything about the meal. Everything was impeccable but what stood out was the buttermilk cocktail, the duck terrine and the steak my daughter ate. Loved it all. The schnitzel is amazing too. I cannot wait to return.
Came here for date night with my wife. The owner checked on us even before our waiter came, and he was very friendly and modified the tasting menu for us due to dietary restrictions. Waiter was also attentive and recommended a beautiful wine. I recommend the 6 course tasting menu for best bang for your buck, as Bauhaus is pricey for Vancouver. Food was excellent and modern, not traditional German at all. Tip-they now have valet parking, which is great if you are driving in to gastown.
Thank you for a relaxed and tasty evening.
Our first visit to your restaurant was in July with friends. Loved the stroganoff and was dreaming of an encore!
We are from Lethbridge, Ab and we had my brother join us from Tacoma and introduced our local Vancouver friends to your establishment.
Everyone enjoyed the evening immensely and look forward to the next visit.
Awesome service and we especially loved Uwe visiting and chatting and sharing a taste of the wild duck!
Above average but overpriced. We had wanted to try the tasting menu but my wife has a dairy allergy. Their site says that the are happy to accommodate but they were not able to do so because everything on the tasting menu has dairy.
So, we ordered a la carte. Everything was prepared nicely and tasted fine but in general the food was uninspired. Not what I was expecting for the price.
The appetizer was amazing, by far the best dish. The authentic German food felt like something they felt like had to be on the menu but didn’t want to put too much effort into. It tasted like an overpriced piece of meatloaf. Nothing special. I think the tasting menu would have been better as that’s where the chefs creativity goes. The waiter could have given better descriptions of the food items as the menu said “Rouland” and he didn’t explain anything about it.
Sat. Night Birthday dinner for 2. It was unannounced. We frequent nice restaurants all over the city regularly, and were surprised to find this gem of a place. Bauhaus is a restaurant that is
'WINNING'. In the heart of Gas town... Drinks: Loved the Australian Red selection, and couple of the French Whites. Possibly one of the best I've tasted for the price-point. The meal portions are also perfect for the price. Classic German infused with earthy flavours. (Gotta try the Schnitzel) The Owner is heavily vested in his business, and it shows. He comes out to speak with each table and customer (full-on eye-contact) couple times throughout the service. Finally, our server, she was kind, informed, listened carefully to what we were asking, and provided quality suggestions about the meals, and drinks. Super impressed.
I've only had 1 meal there and there were very few other people so it is hard to check some of the above. I would recommend it for delicious food, great service and imagination (the hickory smoke under glass was terrific.
I think that if you offer a lunch special, you should make it more than $22 and offer more than Spezl cheese and beer. To come for a lunch, especially in order to try the restaurant and be offered such a thing is ridiculous. Other than that - Wunderbar.
I am leaving these comments for the restaurant only. I do not want them re-printed, nor my name/nick-name used.
Every time I dine at Bauhaus I wonder why I do not dine here every week!
The food is exceptional!
The flatware and glassware is exceptional.
The menu always has exceptional seasonal dishes as well as well kept favourites.
The serve ....exceptional!!!
And today at lunch Amber was extra exceptional!!!!
Bauhaus did not disappoint. Food and Service as good as always. This time the chance to chat a bit longer with the owner.
We had the Schnitzel, and as Germans, let me tell you: you get the real thing. Try a Austrian white along. Looking forward to be back next year.
My wife and I had the Chef's menu and it was terrific. Small servings but had six courses. Had duck pate, elk tartare, mushroom appy, halibut, beef tenderloin and white chocolate dessert. All was very good. The coffee crusted tenderloin was by far the best. Attentive and informed but not over the top service, great wine pairings for each course. Highly recommend eating here. Pricy but not too crazy.
