“My vision for Bauhaus has always been that we never stand still and move forward, getting better and better. I am very excited to have both Chef Tim Schulte and Chef David Mueller join as Bauhaus’ executive team. They are both young, creative, and exceptionally talented chefs.” - Uwe Boll

Rave reviews online & we thought everything was at best mediocre. We were expecting a strong German presence & didn’t get it .The one signature dish was Weiner Schnitzel & it was marginal .Way too breaded for my taste. The one redeeming feature was that the wait staff was very nice. We will not dine there again.
This meal was one of the best my husband and I have enjoyed. The food was amazing and the service was delightful. We'd come back to Vancouver just for a meal at Bauhaus.
Very good food with creative dishes, very fresh and unusual ingredients and interesting flavors. The own ambition to deserve a Michelin Star though was a little bit overambitious....we would have given a 4,5 or 4,7 but don’t have the option ...
The staff though was really inspiring. Good explanations for everything and most notably to illustrate the choices of the wine pairing (which we really recommend with the tasting menue) as we experienced again how wines fully change their character with the food. Thank for a splendid evening.
My wife is not a foodie and even she couldn't stop saying wonderful things about how perfect the food was.
This was our third time here. This time we went for the tasting menu. It was exciting and delicious, beginning to end! Very happy with the food!
The service this time though lost steam about half way through. They stop clearing dishes regularly and stopped asking about our drink situation, which we found a bit odd as the service was amazing both times before. It might have bee an understaffing issue of something, but they were darting around quite a bit. Either way, the servers were wonderful and knowledgeable.
One more server on hand it would have been 5 stars all around. That said, this will definitely not be our last visit here!!!
Very good drinks, very good food, we didn't go German with our choices, but the duck, dumplings and lamb were great - get the lamb
We had the 6 course tasting menu. Everything was delicious, and we were full by the end of it.
However, it is more west coast/pacific northwest than german food.
I especially enjoyed the salmon, lamb and quail courses.
An excellent dining experience: great staff and great food.
Came for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was not very crowded at roughly 8:00 pm, somewhat surprising given the crowd elsewhere in Gastown. The tasting menu was fantastic, with each dish bursting with flavor. Particularly memorable was the decadent lamb shank. While the food was excellent, the German heritage in the menu was hard to find outside the traditional Schnitzel. The cocktails were beautifully crafted and surprisingly inexpensive for the caliber of restaurant.
The restaurant felt very modern, almost like stepping into a Brooklyn loft, and the clientele mostly on the younger end. Towards the end of the meal (about 9:30), there were very few patrons remaining and the staff seemed eager to head out for the night. Altogether Bauhaus was a great restaurant in Vancouver, and certainly worth the stop.
Creative menu, amazing presentation, fantastic service... this is fine dining at its best! See what inspires the chefs by having the Chefs Menu. It won't disappoint.
Knowledgeable servers- creative and memorable 6 course dinner.
Went for a nice dinner with another couple. We all had the 4 course tasting menu. Food was excellent with perfect portion sizes.
Plays to a younger crowd. Contemporary design and loud music. Might want to avoid if over 50.
On vacation for my birthday saw an ad for the restaurant and just had to go. Contemporary German and since I was born in Germany it was an obvious choice. The reservation was 9pm only we didn't know they stopped serving the tasting menu then. Travis was able to get the chef to let us order it since it was a birthday dinner. Much thanks to Travis and the wonderful chefs. Everything was so wonderful the food, the cocktails and the service provided. Travis even hailed a taxi for us.
Very poor service
If you havent been here you must go! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding.Everything we had was bursting with flavor. Hubby hates cauliflower and he loved the cauliflower soup. For main dishes we had the weiner schnitzel (outstanding and a very large portion) and the roast beef which melted in your mouth. We added on the spatzel (cheese pasta) and a salad. This was a lot of food for 2 people. Our server Luke went above and beyond to ensure our evening was perfect even when there was a small mishap. His humor and utmost sincerity in dealing with the situation made the night even more enjoyable. We can't wait to go back for the watermelon salad and wagyu starter!
Visited the Bauhaus Restaurant for my wife's birthday while in Vancouver for a weekend get away. Everything about the evening was a great experience from the greeting by the host, the friendly service, good cocktails and the wonderful dinner. I had the zwiebelrostbraten that was so tender and flavorful. My wife had the lamb duo. The owner, Uwe Boll, even stopped by to greet us and explain how each dish had been prepared. We ended the evening sharing a dessert and after dinner cocktail. I would highly recommend this to anyone living in or visiting Vancouver who wants to have a truly fine dining experience. I won't hesitate to be sure to experience this restaurant when I am in Vancouver again.
Had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Creative and beautifully presented dishes. Excellent service, the owner took time to visit every table. Very impressive and delicious
All perfect just need a better selection of champagne.
;-) but I got an excellent rose instead.
Coming back soon!
We had a good time here. I had the tasting menu and it was good. The best plates were the pappardelle and the dessert. Service was friendly and prompt. The place should improve its ambience.
I elected to go with the tasting menus, and it was very good. The piece de resistance was to be the flank steak, but the quail definitely stole the show. Good wine pairings throughout. Service was excellent.
On holiday in Vancouver we visited the Bauhaus Restaurant with 4 Dutch persons and we enjoyed really good dishes.
The wine was also really good and the service was excellent.
Again thanks to the Bauhaus for a great evening on our Canadian trip.
Every time a plate came out, all I could say was “Wow this is unreal!”
Best meal in Vancouver by far. The food was delicious and I would say the dessert was one of the best I’ve ever had. Service was attentive and very friendly.
We celebrated my 70th birthday at Bauhaus a few days ago. It was our first visit and we came away impressed and satisfied on all counts. The setting is quietly elegant, the service very attentive, the noise level not at all obtrusive (a very big plus in our book), and — best of all — the food is excellent. Although we all opted for the ‘German comfort food’ dishes, we found them entirely authentic and very satiating. The next time we come, we’ll be more adventurous in our choices — although it will be hard to pass up the spaetzle (really, German poutine)!
My family had sprung a surprise by commissioning a ‘singing telegram’ delievered by a fellow in lederhosen and a feathered hat. It was hilarious and I very much enjoyed it. The restaurant staff were very accommodating and the other guests took it all in their stride.
Perfect place for Dinner with friends or business - great food with German influence.
Stunning wine list
A great surprise - will go there again when in next in town
One of the best meals we’ve had in Vancouver. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was excellent.
Birthday celebration with best friend. My 5th time at this restaurant. Never disappointed, always wowed. Food fabulous, service outstanding, definitely worth the cost!
Wow! Amazing food. The taste, presentation, textures and flavours were all on point.
We did the 6 course tasting with wine pairings and the timing was off during the entire meal. Although the servers were kind and friendly they just weren’t in sink:(
At one point we had to remind the waitresses about the wine. Food came and no wine was present. They kept refilling our glasses of sparkling water with flat water. Tables that came after got their food first.
It was our anniversary and no acknowledgement. 28 Years!!!!!
(Birthdays were acknowledged though...)
Service was slow and lacking!!! I ordered asparagus and they never came ???
Extremely long evening with no harmony...
Also, she never brought the desert menu:(. Clearly they were ready to close but we weren’t the reason for the lengthy meal:(
Think this may be the case of a restaurant that had a terrific reputation with a chef that is no longer there. The food was ok but disappointing as our expectations were much higher. Expensive.
Our food was absolutely phenomenal but unfortunately our server didn't speak to us after dropping our food off until I flagged him down for our bill. We both really enjoyed our food and wine but the service really put a damper on the mood.
With a number of dietary restrictions, we had a very delicious dinner experience.
We had specified when booking on Opentable that the dinner was our anniversary dinner, however this may not have been communicated to the restaurant as it wasn’t acknowledged. Generally in fine dining establishments some recognition of a special occasion is made.
Service was generally very good and efficient however we found it at times to be a bit abrupt - with our waiter rushing through the wine explanation without telling us what the wine was called or where it was from. We had ordered the wine pairing with the tasting menu therefore would have liked to be told what the wine was, however we had to repeatedly stop the waiter and ask what the wine was.
The food was exceptional and overall we had a good time, yet did find the service not to be what we expected given the standard of the restaurant and similar fine dining restaurants.
Truly beautiful experience. The food was incredible. The flavour profile of every dish we had on the tasting menu was a modern take on a classic and was a discovery with every bite.
on our eatingtour from san fransisco to vancouver we discovered the bauhaus. the first time tasting menu was so good. wo we booked a new table in the next week. the restaurant has different courts from germany too. but we want to eat typical eatings from vancouver. the tasting menu shows a great spectrum from the kitchen. we came back. perfect athmosphare, perfect eating, perfect winelist and perfect waiters.
thank you very much.
Exceptional tasting menu. The staff were friendly and very pleasant. We really enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to the next visits.
One of the very very few spots in Vancouver that's actually worth the money. The flavor combinations and the techniques used are all impressive. You can taste everything on the plate in a perfect balance. Between the two of us we had the aged Parmesan, asparagus soup, the hen, the trout, and all were perfect. We had the white chocolate dessert and it was good, but not on the same level as the entree or main.
Overall, one of the very few restaurants in Vancouver that I would actually recommend with eyes closed.
This was our fourth time at Bauhaus. We came several times in 2016. Back then the exec chef was Stefan Hartmann. Needless to say, this time, the experience wan't the same but nonetheless, the quality of the ingredients and wine pairing was excellent.
Definitely a positive departure from other high end restaurants. Excellent and interesting combinations of flavors and ingredients. Ambience/music shifts as the evening progresses. We were there for 3 hours and didn’t feel rushed at all. Very European that way. Owner/chef greeted everyone through evening and answered questions/comments. Highly recommend for special date night or get together with special friends. Beautiful evening.
Restaurant is very popular and trendy. Great atmosphere. Service was awesome. Little pricey though. We chose the schnitzel with potatoes/cranberries. It tasted very good but the portions were a little too much for us. It was nice to see local wines on the list. Had an enjoyable evening there.
